Priyanka sisodia,
Short stories by Tolstoy was a great book which includes motivational and inspirational stories。 Simply explained with practical examples most of them from old era。
Shashank G K,
Just finished reading this book。 The author has done a great job, he has focused on narration more than description which makes the readers go with the flow easily。 A small pinch of exaggeration can be seen in some of his stories but nevertheless, his creativity and imagination is beyond the sky。 Highly recommended to read this。
Himanshi Yadav,
I would like to argue over the title of this book claiming these stories to be the greatest but I also understand how they could be so。 Following the same themes of morality, faith, humanism and piety, the stories are seemingly easy to read and grasp the lessons that Tolstoy urges us to。 But at the same time, they are repetitive in nature and sometimes in dialogues too。 Perhaps my atheism got in the way of the depth these stories mean to portray and some of them indeed touched my heart like The I would like to argue over the title of this book claiming these stories to be the greatest but I also understand how they could be so。 Following the same themes of morality, faith, humanism and piety, the stories are seemingly easy to read and grasp the lessons that Tolstoy urges us to。 But at the same time, they are repetitive in nature and sometimes in dialogues too。 Perhaps my atheism got in the way of the depth these stories mean to portray and some of them indeed touched my heart like The Story of Ivan the Fool, How much Land does a Man need, Three Questions。 Overall, after finishing this I realised I will always pick a Tolstoy novel rather than a Tolstoy short story anyday。 。。。more
Bhargavi Priya M,
All enjoyable stories of Leo Tolstoy at once。 Teaches a lot about Russia and its folk tales。 The language is simple, making it an easy read。 Every story has a message, quirky characters and some new aspect of man's perception of God。 All enjoyable stories of Leo Tolstoy at once。 Teaches a lot about Russia and its folk tales。 The language is simple, making it an easy read。 Every story has a message, quirky characters and some new aspect of man's perception of God。 。。。more

A Rahul,
Nice collection of stories。 Some traditional Russian stories made me nostalgic because it reminded me of the Russian stories we used to read during our childhood。 Emphasis on the importance of physical labour and love for fellow beings is the underlying theme in most of the stories of Leo Tolstoy。 Enjoyed。
Harsh Maru,
Some stories are timeless classics。Some might be more relevant to the authors time

THE GREAT SHORT STORIES OF LEO TOLSTOYby@jaico_publishing_houseGenre: Short stories。There are total 7 parts to this book 📖 encompassing 23 stories。All the stories/ parts are compiled in chronological order。Part 1 has 3 stories。 I read two of em。💙 The stories in part 1 were published around 1872。📚The 1st story, GOD SEES THE TRUTH, BUT WAITSis the story of a merchant named, Ivan Dmitrich Aksenov。When he was a bachelor, he indulged greatly in vices but after his marriage & children, he restrained his indulgences。One fine day, he was supposed to travel far, for business。 His wife tried to stop him citing her wierd, bad dream as the reason。 But he laughed it off and went。Later, misfortune followed him and led him finally into jail。 When his wife heard the news, she went to see him and asked him, if he was guilty。。This hit him bad。。and he thought。。"It seems that only God can know the truth; it is to Him alone we must appeal & from Him alone expect mercy。"What followed is a beautiful, insightful story。。amazingly written。。Although, it may sound illogical。。scientifically。。I do believe in the power of the subconscious mind。。in intuition。。 in vibes & hints that our subconscious may try to guide us。。 but at the same time I believe, no one can change the destiny。。The crux here is, we need to accept God's decisions gracefully。 It teaches us about faith and forgiveness。 The execution of the story is fabulous and beautiful。 📚 The 2nd story A PRISONER IN THE CAVUCASUSis the story of officer Zhilin。It teaches us about destiny, about human nature。。about the undying attitude to "try"。。to put in efforts。。to try to improve your conditions。。 to try to save yourself from the lemons life throws at us。 It tells us, we need to keep on trying till our last breath 。。Both the stories may not have a happy ending。。but the lessons they share。。and the emotions they explore are worth every sec。 。。。more

Kirthi,
Leo Tolstoy is a master story teller and his stories deserve 5 stars。 But this book was not well planned (editorial lapse) for laying out his stories。 Also, the book had too many typos。 Took out one star for the publishing issues。 P。s: Some people complained about the preachy nature of the stories。 At times, even adults need to be taught。 It is in fact a great talent to combine story telling with teaching。
Arpit Arya,
Ivan the Fool is my favourite from this book 📖。 The thing I love about Tolstoy's writing is a simple & effective way to communicate a strong message。 Every short story resonates with a core message and way one should lead their life。 I will not spill the beans but yes one story a day will keep you refreshed and will continue to ignite a spark for learning something curious each day。 Ivan the Fool is my favourite from this book 📖。 The thing I love about Tolstoy's writing is a simple & effective way to communicate a strong message。 Every short story resonates with a core message and way one should lead their life。 I will not spill the beans but yes one story a day will keep you refreshed and will continue to ignite a spark for learning something curious each day。 。。。more

The Greatest Short Stories of Leo Tolstoy Quite an intriguing collection of short stories, while the style of narration considerably changes from tale to tale。。Though most of the stories are written in mid 18th and begin of 19th century, moral of these stories can be effective and easy to learn till date as it explains hope, trust, positivity and humanity。。The story of Ivan the foolWhat men live byHow much land does a man need ?where love is, god isare my favourite of the list
Timothy,
Tolstoy's stories are intriguing, thought provoking, and inspiring。 I couldn't put it down! That said, I may be bias as I believe this is a timeless work that clearly and beautifully illustrates fundamental truths about both our's and God's nature。 Tolstoy's stories are intriguing, thought provoking, and inspiring。 I couldn't put it down! Genre: Short Stories, Morality, TheismPublication Date: 2009This book, in a way, offers a lot of moral ideas in the form of fun and interesting stories。 Most of them are based on the Old Russian country sides。 It was a fun book all in all。
Amiya Panda,
Lovely to read。 Well-formed characters in such short words。Stories depict the social structures of that time very succinctly but with great effectiveness。 It is a Must read。
Chethan SP,
Really Profound!! I think the stories will be relevant even after a century。
Anushree,
Leo Tolstoy is an iconic story teller。 Great collection of stories with life lessons。 Worth reading and highly recommended to all age groups。 A big fan of his literary works。
Suhasa,
Some stories that were memorable and taught some valuable life lessons-1。 How much land does a man need。2。 Essarhaddon, King of Assyria。3。 The Story of Ivan the Fool。4。 Three Questions。5。 God sees the truth, but waits。One story was particularly funny - Too Dear! All other stories failed to be memorable or too theist, being an atheist I couldn't care too much about those。 Skipped last two stories for the same reason。Looking forward to read his epics like War and Peace and Anna Karenina。 Some stories that were memorable and taught some valuable life lessons-1。 How much land does a man need。2。 Essarhaddon, King of Assyria。3。 The Story of Ivan the Fool。4。 Three Questions。5。 God sees the truth, but waits。One story was particularly funny - Too Dear! All other stories failed to be memorable or too theist, being an atheist I couldn't care too much about those。 Skipped last two stories for the same reason。Looking forward to read his epics like War and Peace and Anna Karenina。 。。。more
