Eiichiro Oda is a genius, I swear。 The time just flies by when you read manga。

Oda bazen sinir bozucu olabiliyor。 Bir geçiş kitabı olarak fena değildi, bir anda daldan dala atlanıldı ama iyi geçişlerle。 。。。more

My first manga book。 It was fine, but I find the genre as a whole difficult to follow/read。 I can see that someone who was more familiar with manga and who enjoys adventure/ pirate stories would enjoy this。

The Dressrosa arc gets an emotional send-off as we transition into a new arc; the Zou arc。 There's not a lot of action in this volume, which instead focuses on goodbyes to the characters from Dressrosa and setting up things yet to come。 Dressrosa was really slow to start, but the build up resulted in a satisfying payoff in the last couple of volumes as well as this one because there's some important interactions and spotlight moments for all the characters that had been introduced in the arc。 Se The Dressrosa arc gets an emotional send-off as we transition into a new arc; the Zou arc。 There's not a lot of action in this volume, which instead focuses on goodbyes to the characters from Dressrosa and setting up things yet to come。 Dressrosa was really slow to start, but the build up resulted in a satisfying payoff in the last couple of volumes as well as this one because there's some important interactions and spotlight moments for all the characters that had been introduced in the arc。 Seeing all the bonds Luffy made with people who he's earned respect from is always nice, but it happens on a larger scale in this arc because of the large supporting cast。 I especially like the moments that Fujitora and Sengoku get because they're not bad people, they're just on the opposite side to the Straw Hats。 It makes for an interesting dynamic because while the World Government and Navy are generally corrupt and awful, there's a few shining lights within who genuinely want to do good。 The best part of this wrap-up sequence is the crew's new bounty posters。 These are always highlights of whatever volume they appear in because they've got some hilarious gags and show just how infamous our favourite characters are becoming。As the crew heads to Zou to reunite with their crewmates, there's a few new plot threads that are set up which are really interesting。 I love when this happens in-between arcs because they give you some really engrossing teases that could payoff at any moment, especially when you least expect it。 There's some really exciting things yet to come。The Zou arc gets off to a good start because there's some nice worldbuilding to this fantastical new island, but more importantly it starts in media res。 Something terrible has happened here and the splinter group of the Straw Hats was involved somehow。 Not only that, but not everyone who was meant to be here is actually here, so there's a lot of questions raised that make you want to jump straight into the rest of the arc。A brilliant volume that finally brought Dressrosa to the heights I desired。 。。。more

Good wrap-up to Dressrose。 Also some reveals of what forthcoming and past villains are up to。 The new island of animal people seems cool!

This is more or less the set-up for the rest of the series as far as I can tell。 The denouement of the Dressrosa arc feels very much like the denouement of the Skypiea arc--things are changing quickly, foreshadowing is off the charts, stakes are rising, and the arcs flow more directly into one another。 We are officially introduced to a Yonko, and we get a look into the power of players on that level。 There are also a lot of light-hearted moments that make this a very pleasant volume。

Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have defeated Don Flamingo and restored King Riku to the throne。 But that means the Straw Hats and the Navy are no longer allied。 Will Luffy and crew be able to escape and will a rogue Admiral be a solution? Also we verge on finally connecting back up with our missing crew members。A generally solid volume with some fun moments but it's still not the same without the whole crew together。 Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have defeated Don Flamingo and restored King Riku to the throne。 But that means the Straw Hats and the Navy are no longer allied。 Will Luffy and crew be able to escape and will a rogue Admiral be a solution? Most of this volume is a sort of epilogue to the storyline that came to a conclusion in the previous volume, and it's fun enough, along with a few effective emotional scenes, but one starts to wish that it would move on already。 That eventually happens, and there's a bit of a surprise to the story when a bunch of the pirates that the Straw Hats helped out over the course of the battle all pledge themselves to Luffy's service, giving him access to an army that's several thousand people strong。 I Most of this volume is a sort of epilogue to the storyline that came to a conclusion in the previous volume, and it's fun enough, along with a few effective emotional scenes, but one starts to wish that it would move on already。 That eventually happens, and there's a bit of a surprise to the story when a bunch of the pirates that the Straw Hats helped out over the course of the battle all pledge themselves to Luffy's service, giving him access to an army that's several thousand people strong。 I suspect that will lead to some pretty epic battles in the future, but that won't happen for at least a few more years。 For now, Luffy and his pals head off for more adventures, ending up on an island that's situated on top of a giant elephant and populated by animal people。 There's a hit that some tragedy has struck the members of the Straw Hat crew that were there during the events on Dressrosa, but we'll have to wait until next volume to find out what happened。 I'm looking forward to it, of course, and I'm sure it will lead to some fun stuff at some point, but I won't get my hopes up for too much to happen anytime soon。 。。。more

Public library copy。 I'm not even certain I enjoy this series anymore, there's too many characters and the adventure continues in typical Shonen fashion like a video game whereby a new big, bad guy boss needs to be taken down, rinse and repeat。 80 volumes in and, as a reader, I'm no more aware how much closers Luffy is to being King of the Pirates。 Public library copy。 I'm not even certain I enjoy this series anymore, there's too many characters and the adventure continues in typical Shonen fashion like a video game whereby a new big, bad guy boss needs to be taken down, rinse and repeat。 80 volumes in and, as a reader, I'm no more aware how much closers Luffy is to being King of the Pirates。 。。。more
