Summary

Poppy and Alex。 Alex and Poppy。 They have nothing in common。 She's a wild child; he wears khakis。 She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book。 And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends。 For most of the year they live far apart--she's in New York City, and he's in their small hometown--but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together。

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything。 They haven't spoken since。

Poppy has everything she should want, but she's stuck in a rut。 When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex。 And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together--lay everything on the table, make it all right。 Miraculously, he agrees。

Now she has a week to fix everything。 If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship。 What could possibly go wrong?

this book was kinda fun to read, but honestly i think poppy and alex were too different for all their romance to make sense。 i mean really even the vacation thing every year seemed out there。 so decent read, nothing life changing, but at least enjoyable。

Book: People We Meet on Vacation Author: Emily Henry Rating: 5 Out of 5 StarsThis is another Book of the Month pick! I really do think this is my favourite so far。 I really had a great time reading it。 If you are in a slump and want a great time, I highly encourage you to pick this up。 Emily Henry is one of the few romance authors who I find myself picking up and really enjoying。 Those of you who don’t know, adult romance really isn’t my thing。 I can do YA romance without any issues, but whenever it comes to adult romance, it just doesn’t work。 What I really enjoy about Emily’s books is that I can really relate to the characters。 She writes really realistic and flawed characters。 There is just something about the charm of her writing that just makes me want to keep reading and find out what is going to happen。 I don’t know, but whatever it is that she’s doing, it just works for me。 Alex and Poppy are two friends who take a vacation every year together。 They are in love with each other, but they just don’t know it yet。 Then, all of a sudden, those vacations stop and we, as the reader, have no idea why。 The two rekindle their friendship and decide to take a trip together again。 Let me tell, these two have some great chemistry。 I really like the idea that they started out as friends, but they have these feelings for each other。 I like that we get to see them start out as strangers, then best friends, and then on the verge of being something more。 All of the tension between them as they try to keep their feelings hidden just makes me feel all of the feelings。 It’s like you want to jump into the book and tell them that they are supposed to be together。 Now, the characters are not perfect, which is something that I like。 It makes them human。 Now, I will be the first to admit that Poppy and Alex are rather in the immature side。 They are supposed to be in their thirties, but they act so much younger。 What I really liked about them though was the fact that they are so relatable。 We have Poppy who have everything going on or so it seems。 She has a great job, has gotten out of her small town, has her place, and gets to travel for her job。 She has made her dreams come true and is living the high life。 What can be wrong? However, she isn’t happy and she doesn’t know what is making her so unhappy。 We get more of Poppy’s inner thoughts because the book is told from her point of view。 We get to see Poppy explore what is making her unhappy and really question her life。 This journey of self-discovery is what really made me latch onto Poppy。 I think that it is something that everyone can relate to。 This is one of those books that just seems like it’s going to be fluff。 However, the further you into the book, you realize that there is going to be more to it。 I like these layers。 While I do enjoy fluff, I really enjoy stories that add another layer to it。 I want to have those human aspects。 I want to have the romance, but I want there to be something more。 I do think that Emily Henry may be my go-to romance author。 This is the second book I have read by her and I have really enjoyed both titles。 。。。more

TYSM to NetGalley and Berkley for my copy of this incredible novel。Ever since I read Emily Henry's "Beach Read" last year, I knew that every book by EH would be immediately added to my TBR, and wow, "People We Meet on Vacation" did not disappoint。Almost immediately I fell in love with both Poppy and Alex, both and individuals and also the magic they created when they were together。 My heart was aching when they were hurting, and I was laughing along when they were being silly and goofy together。 TYSM to NetGalley and Berkley for my copy of this incredible novel。Ever since I read Emily Henry's "Beach Read" last year, I knew that every book by EH would be immediately added to my TBR, and wow, "People We Meet on Vacation" did not disappoint。Almost immediately I fell in love with both Poppy and Alex, both and individuals and also the magic they created when they were together。 My heart was aching when they were hurting, and I was laughing along when they were being silly and goofy together。 They warmed my heart, broke my heart, and had me thinking about the relationships in my life in a new and unique way。 This one exceeded all my expectations and I'm going to be thinking about it forever。 It has definitely secured a spot on my favorite books of 2021 list。 。。。more

I'd give this a solid 4。5 stars! This was my first Emily Henry read and I enjoyed it from start to finish! I liked the quirkiness of the characters, the relationship between Alex and Poppy, the back and forth between summers。 Her writing flows easily, the characters are well developed, and the story is interesting。 Life got in the way of finishing this in one sitting! Emily Henry is my favorite writer at the moment and I’ve been eagerly awaiting this novel。 Poppy and Alex are EVERYTHING to me。 If I could live in their world forever, I would。 This book will live on my bookshelf forever, I’ll recommend to everyone I know, and I’m already thinking about when I’ll read it again。 (Ugh, now how long do I have to wait for her next novel?)

Poppy and Alex, best friends since college, are a living example of the adage “opposites attract。” Alex is a creature of habit, with dreams for the most normal of futures。 Volatile Poppy is happiest when she’s traveling, surrounded by strangers and facing one unpredictable situation after another。 The friends have a tradition: every summer, they take a vacation together。 Poppy knows she can always count on Alex--until a disastrous vacation in Croatia results in two years of them not speaking。 Wh Poppy and Alex, best friends since college, are a living example of the adage “opposites attract。” Alex is a creature of habit, with dreams for the most normal of futures。 Volatile Poppy is happiest when she’s traveling, surrounded by strangers and facing one unpredictable situation after another。 The friends have a tradition: every summer, they take a vacation together。 Poppy knows she can always count on Alex--until a disastrous vacation in Croatia results in two years of them not speaking。 When we meet Poppy, she’s floundering and unhappy, and she knows that her rift with Alex is at the root of her sadness。 She plans a vacation, and Alex agrees to go with her。 Poppy has one last chance to save their friendship--and take the wildest romantic risk of her life。Like Henry’s novel Beach Read, People We Meet is a delicious, big-hearted examination of two people who maddeningly overlook the perfect partner who’s been right in front of them all along。 This is a contemporary romance, light by design, but Henry doesn’t make it easy for her characters; she gives them real flaws and allows them to cause harm and make mistakes。 The happy ending, always assumed, is wholly earned。 This is a perfect beach read。 ***Review originally written for the City Book Review。 I received a free ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review。*** 。。。more

5/5 without a doubt。 I LOVED this novel。 It was easy to fall in love with the characters and root for them as the story unfolded。 I could not love this any more than I did。

People We Meet on Vacation was one of my most anticipated Spring books! I was so excited to get a netgalley copy and was even more excited to see it was a Book of the Month option! I dove right into this book and came up feeling like I needed more。 I enjoyed the book, thought it was cute。 It had a little romance, there were some funny moments。 Poppy and Alex were both quirky characters, that were unique。 I’m going to be honest and say it’s a good book, but I wasn’t WOWED by it。 I was left feelin People We Meet on Vacation was one of my most anticipated Spring books! I ADORED Emily Henry's Beach Read last year。 It was one of the first romance novels that I enjoyed in years。 I was so happy BOTM chose her to be a repeat author I started this the day it arrived (very unlike me)。 I seriously laughed out loud so many times while reading this book。 It has the best friends to lovers trope (my personal favorite, hi Drew) which makes the reader keep flipping pages because you want them to just admit their feelings for each other so badly。 Alex and Poppy have been bes I ADORED Emily Henry's Beach Read last year。 It was one of the first romance novels that I enjoyed in years。 I was so happy BOTM chose her to be a repeat author I started this the day it arrived (very unlike me)。 I seriously laughed out loud so many times while reading this book。 It has the best friends to lovers trope (my personal favorite, hi Drew) which makes the reader keep flipping pages because you want them to just admit their feelings for each other so badly。 Alex and Poppy have been best friends since college。 The type of friends that make no sense, but at the same time make each other feel seen and not alone。 They begin traveling together on a college budget, but keep the tradition alive each year。 I loved how the book alternated between different vacations and their current one while keep the romance alive throughout。 It is quick, witty as hell, and the type of love story we all want to believe in! Beach Read had enemies to lovers, People We Meet on Vacation had best friends to lovers。 What is next from Emily Henry, friends with benefits to lovers? Love triangle? Forbidden lovers? Fake relationship? I am ready for it ALL。 。。。more

Same type of book as her first, Beach Read。 This one a romantic comedy in When Harry Met Sally way。 Just a little too long getting to the obvious end。 I did like the authors comments about the book at the end。

Did I just finish my favorite book of 2021。。。。。?

Kaylynn Arnett-Sampson

I am speechless。 This book is home。 I had such a visceral experience reading this book I don’t know how Emily Henry does it。 It is perfect, it is golden, it is my favorite book。 5 mil stars。

Carly

Emily Henry is incredible with her character building and backstory development。 Both characters were excellent and riveting in their own special ways! Their banter was hilarious。 What a fun read!

Veronika

This was Perfection!! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

Jennifer Brown

Good read, but not as great as Beach Read。 A little wearing at times。

Jon Latessa

Emily Henry is excellent at writing quirky and funny dialog。 The end veers towards being overly melodramatic but overall it’s a nice and breezy read。

3。5。 I loved Beach Read so so so much。 This had so much potential, especially since I was always the girl falling in love with her best friend。 But the first half fell flat for me。 Picked up in the middle。 I actually think it would have been better if the Croatia spoiler was revealed much earlier。

4。5⭐️ Very cute。 I really liked Alex - he was adorable。

Hillary Nelson

Cute and sweet。 Exactly perfect summer read when you also probably need to cry for no reason。

Kaiti

So witty and charming with a couple I wanted to root for both as a couple and individuals。 The incredible banter of the Gilmore Girls meets the drama, romance, and fashion of Sex and the City, with all the charm and hope of a 90s rom com。 The perfect vacation read!

Tara Manz

Such a good read!

This book is absolute sunshine bottled up and given out in small increments over ten years of vacations and I couldn't have loved Poppy more if I wanted to! This is the perfect book to drop in your beach bag! Inspired by When Harry Met Sally (but definitely not a retelling), People We Meet on Vacation is the perfect amount of sweet, sexy, and funny。
