Summary

The second book in the beloved and globally bestselling Bridgerton Family, now a series created by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix。 Welcome to Anthony's story 。 。 。

1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, This Author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry。 And in all truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better。。。 --Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1814

Anthony Bridgerton needs a wife。

Having spent his twenties in a rakish pursuit of pleasure (whilst taking care to ensure the financial security of his mother and seven younger siblings and mother) he knows it's high time he settled down and ensured the continuation of the Bridgerton line。

Edwina Sheffield is considered the most beautiful debutante of the current season。 She is also sweet, innocent and eminently biddable - Anthony is sure she'll make a perfectly acceptable wife and vows to make her his。

The only obstacle in his way is Edwina's older sister, Kate。 Kate is determined to do all she can to allow her sister the chance to marry for love rather than convenience。 And the roguish viscount is beginning to think he may have met his match in Kate's keen wit and sharp tongue。 Until, that is, he makes the mistake of kissing her。。。

Auch der zweite Teil der Bridgerton-Reihe ist kurzweilig und unterhaltsam。 Ja, man könnte fast sagen, dass er in den Dialogen sogar spritziger als der erste Teil ist。 (Februar 2021)

Loved more than book 1! More character development for both Kate and Anthony

The writing is very fluid and makes for a fun read。 The characters are multi-faceted, and you just want to know more and find out about their lives。 This series is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine。 I love the idea of the Bridgertons as a big, boisterous, and good-natured family, with a loving mother and protective brothers。 I would kill to have been part of a large family like this one。This novel is the story of a more personal struggle for the main male character and kind of dragged on at t The writing is very fluid and makes for a fun read。 The characters are multi-faceted, and you just want to know more and find out about their lives。 This series is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine。 I love the idea of the Bridgertons as a big, boisterous, and good-natured family, with a loving mother and protective brothers。 I would kill to have been part of a large family like this one。This novel is the story of a more personal struggle for the main male character and kind of dragged on at times as both he and his new wife did some serious shadow work, but still a good tome in the series。 (view spoiler)[I could see how a reader would find the struggle of a man losing his father and then presuming he will die himself before the father's age at death to be。。。well, fictional and made-up!; I can attest that this a very real thing。 My own husband's father passed at the age of 32, when my husband was 9 years old, and it has been real ordeal for his psyche。 As the author's note at the end of this novel testifies to this being a real phenomenon, I found it fascinating that this was such a similar experience to what I know my husband is going through。 Something within young men and boys has them very much identify as their father and make this very solid connection that creates in their mind an identical lifespan。 For what I know, These men grow up with guilt and shame if they "out-live" their fathers past the age at which the father died。 It fascinated me that males can deal with this commonly upon death of their father and I wondered how similar or different are females in respect to their mother's deaths or even father's deaths? Something to look into。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

3。5*I enjoyed this book, and I thought it was a fun extension of the Bridgerton series。 Anthony and Kate start as enemies and turn into lovers, which is my fave trope。 But the challenges they encountered were just silly to me。

This dude is an absolute ass。 No redeemable features whatsoever。 A serious letdown after simon。 Hopefully benedict will be better!

It's official。 Anthony is my least favorite Bridgerton hero。 He's pompous, self-important and an ass。 I have no idea how they're going to make him a sympathetic character for season 2 of the Bridgertons。 However, I'm happy I'm done this book because now I am closer to Colin's book! This book was fun and an enjoyable read。 I watched the first season of Bridgerton on Netflix, so it was great to pick up where the show left off。

Loved this book。 After the end of the first book, I was curious where Quinn was going to take the series, and I was not disappointed at all。 There were no cheesy dramatic character changes to fit the plot of one of the Bridgerton siblings falling in love, and as usual, the characters were amazingly-written people you fell in love with immediately。

Jessica

Very cute, if not slightly predictable。 There were moments where I was laughing out loud。 I am so glad Netflix decided to pick up this series or I would never have known about it。 Now on to book three!

Erin

Eh, this was slow。

This is what I wanted。 It's silly。 It's fun。 The characters are ridiculous and I LOVE THEM。I would give 5 stars for Newton the Corgi, alone。 But then there's all the drama llama angst, so we're down to 4。 This is what I wanted。 It's silly。 It's fun。 The characters are ridiculous and I LOVE THEM。I would give 5 stars for Newton the Corgi, alone。 But then there's all the drama llama angst, so we're down to 4。 。。。more

Fun read。 Something about historical romances just gets me。 I enjoyed Kate’s character。 It will be interesting to see what Shonda Rhimes does with this in Bridgerton season two。

Read it because of hype about the Netflix adaptation。 It was okay。 Typical of the genre。 Did not like the main male character's multiple references to violence against women。 Read it because of hype about the Netflix adaptation。 It was okay。 Typical of the genre。 Did not like the main male character's multiple references to violence against women。 。。。more

Vast improvement on Daphne's book。 Kate and the other Sheffield women were delights to read about, Newton the corgi was the real MVP and I can hardly wait to meet them onscreen at Christmas。 Beautifully executed and full of warmth and humour。 Vast improvement on Daphne's book。 Kate and the other Sheffield women were delights to read about, Newton the corgi was the real MVP and I can hardly wait to meet them onscreen at Christmas。 Beautifully executed and full of warmth and humour。 。。。more

Love Anthony and his love story。

Oh my God。 This book was AMAZING。 I loved everything about it。 It had all my favorite plot points in a HR: enemies-to-lovers plot, marriage of convenience。 Beyond that, one may wonder why I liked it so much。 After all, isn't this another same old? No it's most DEFINETELY not。 The characters themselves were sooo well-written。 Everything was expressed so well and the characters! *raptures* Anthony was so swoony and had all the best (and I suppose typical) characteristics of a dashing, heartless rake。 Two things set him apart though: the fact he believed in love unlike every other 'rake' and wasn't as cynical and jaded as others in his position and that he had a deep love for family。 (And yes, I know he was charming and sweet and funny but that's for Kate to discover) Kate, on the other hand, is more unusual for a heroine。 She isn't shy or timid or scared easily。 She doesn't need a man to protect her。 She's fiercely loyal to her family, has a marvelous sense of humor and a sharp wit。 She isn't conventionally beautiful, or even at all beautiful in comparison with Edwina, yet to Anthony, she's a goddess。 It was however, her wit that initially intrigued him and shows he respects her as an equal。 All in all, a MAGNIFECENT read and I'd definitely recommend this to others。 Happy Reading! 。。。more

I enjoyed this so much more than I did book one。Antony and Kate's relationship was much more fun to read about, and I really like how they work together。 The second epilogue was hilarious and I love that addition to the story。 There could be an entire book about the lot of them bickering in their old age and I would read it without hesitation。 I enjoyed this so much more than I did book one。Antony and Kate's relationship was much more fun to read about, and I really like how they work together。 The second epilogue was hilarious and I love that addition to the story。 There could be an entire book about the lot of them bickering in their old age and I would read it without hesitation。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Did I swoon? Yes! Did I love it? Of course! But。。。Spoiler Alert!I didn’t like that their story was similar to Simon & Daphne in that they only got married because they were caught in a compromising situation。 I wish Anthony, the elusive rake, would have admitted to Kate that he had fallen in love with her before they married。 It seems like he only really admitted it after they had lots of sex。

I love a good series! You can picture the characters, the setting, even their accents。 Love this family and I could devour these books!
