Summary

Six years ago, Dr Michael Mosley started a health revolution with the 5:2 Fast Diet, telling the world about the incredible power of intermittent fasting。 In this book he brings together all the latest science - including  a new approach: Time Restricted Eating - to create an easy-to-follow programme。

Recent studies have shown that 800 calories is the magic number when it comes to successful dieting - it’s an amount high enough to be manageable but low enough to speed weight loss and trigger a range of desirable metabolic changes。

The secret of this new programme is that it is highly flexible - depending on your goals, you can choose how intensively you want to do it。

Along with delicious, low-carb, Mediterranean-style recipes and menu plans by Dr Clare Bailey, The Fast 800 offers an effective way to help you lose weight, improve mood and reduce blood pressure, inflammation and blood sugars。 Take your future health into your own hands。

Backed by ScienceI like Dr Mosley’s approach and how he wants readers to really consider if this is the diet plan / lifestyle for them。 I appreciate that he considers the long term sustainability of his plan and breaks it into 3 phases。

Feels like I read a bad infomercial。 Yes, you can lose weight if you cut calories。 Especially, if it's 800 calories。 I was hoping for some science to back up some of the information。 A lot of the information is debatable。 Feels like I read a bad infomercial。 Yes, you can lose weight if you cut calories。 Especially, if it's 800 calories。 I was hoping for some science to back up some of the information。 A lot of the information is debatable。 。。。more

Great advice and I'm on day 2 of the diet。 It's hard but like he said in the book I'm hoping it gets easier。 Great advice and I'm on day 2 of the diet。 It's hard but like he said in the book I'm hoping it gets easier。 。。。more

A must read, then ACTMy husband and I used the 5:2 several years ago when DR Mosley first wrote about it。 Although we were not overweight, we were concerned with visceral fat。 After a couple years, we fell off the 5:2 upon doing an extended overseas trip, not to return to it。 However, we continued (mostly) with the TRE。 Recently, we have gained a bit of weight, we read and started the fast 800。。。。。feeling great with the weight loss and highly recommend this book, so supportive and encouraging ♥️ A must read, then ACTMy husband and I used the 5:2 several years ago when DR Mosley first wrote about it。 Although we were not overweight, we were concerned with visceral fat。 After a couple years, we fell off the 5:2 upon doing an extended overseas trip, not to return to it。 However, we continued (mostly) with the TRE。 Recently, we have gained a bit of weight, we read and started the fast 800。。。。。feeling great with the weight loss and highly recommend this book, so supportive and encouraging ♥️🙏🏻 。。。more

I am interested in food and my relationship with it and how it impacts on my body, so I am happy to recommend this book to people who are looking to reset their relationship with food and to understand the effects of food on ourselves。Dr。 Mosley writes in easily understood manner and for the most part avoids lecturing or haranguing people about their bad food choices, he has been there himself he knows the guilt and the regret。This won't be for everybody but it can help you to evaluate where you I am interested in food and my relationship with it and how it impacts on my body, so I am happy to recommend this book to people who are looking to reset their relationship with food and to understand the effects of food on ourselves。Dr。 Mosley writes in easily understood manner and for the most part avoids lecturing or haranguing people about their bad food choices, he has been there himself he knows the guilt and the regret。This won't be for everybody but it can help you to evaluate where you are in terms of food and lifestyle。 。。。more

I love how Michael Mosley makes everything so clear and easy to understand。 I have neighbours and friends who are successfully following the Fast 800 and I’m looking forward to joining them on the journey。 Gone are the days of taking it slow and steady。 It seems in COVID times, finally the focus is upon getting that weight off and then sustaining it。 I’ve enjoyed watching Mosley’s TV interviews and videos and gaining more pictorial insights alongside。 Can definitely recommend and have now added I love how Michael Mosley makes everything so clear and easy to understand。 I have neighbours and friends who are successfully following the Fast 800 and I’m looking forward to joining them on the journey。 Gone are the days of taking it slow and steady。 It seems in COVID times, finally the focus is upon getting that weight off and then sustaining it。 I’ve enjoyed watching Mosley’s TV interviews and videos and gaining more pictorial insights alongside。 Can definitely recommend and have now added The Clever Gut Diet, 5 to 2 and insight into COVID。 。。。more

This presents the science behind why the author thinks this diet is good, then some practical advice for following it and finally a selection of recipes。 The science was easy to read and understand and makes a convincing case。 The advice is mostly that the diet isn't as hard to follow as you think it will be and this proved to be true for me (I got very good results doing it for a month)。 But I didn't find many of the recipes in it matched my tastes but several served as a basis for adaptation。 This presents the science behind why the author thinks this diet is good, then some practical advice for following it and finally a selection of recipes。 The science was easy to read and understand and makes a convincing case。 The advice is mostly that the diet isn't as hard to follow as you think it will be and this proved to be true for me (I got very good results doing it for a month)。 But I didn't find many of the recipes in it matched my tastes but several served as a basis for adaptation。 。。。more

Really good, but I'll need to re-read to maintain IF。 Read whilst completing the first 2 week 800 and it was a big help there。 but finding it difficult 3 weeks doing 5:2。 I'm sure another read would be worthwhile。 Really good, but I'll need to re-read to maintain IF。 Read whilst completing the first 2 week 800 and it was a big help there。 but finding it difficult 3 weeks doing 5:2。 I'm sure another read would be worthwhile。 。。。more

Good summaries of the research involved, but I didn't realize Mosley was pushing a particular diet quite so hard。 I think cutting down to only 800 calories PLUS changing the foods you eat is asking an awful lot all at once。 Good summaries of the research involved, but I didn't realize Mosley was pushing a particular diet quite so hard。 I think cutting down to only 800 calories PLUS changing the foods you eat is asking an awful lot all at once。 。。。more

I am giving it a try。 Though the recipes mentioned could be a bit difficult for a strict vegetarian like me。 But overall a good book to motivate you for kick-start your weight loss journey。

The proof shall be in the pudding。 I managed to stick to this last week and felt good。 Weekend required vodka, but he seems cool with that。 Some interesting studies to read。 Recipes not worth the book if you are vego。

Still have to try the recipes but theres no doubt that it will definitely going to be my best experience Sounds very promising and i do believe that it will be well worth trying。 Looking forward to buy smaller dress sizes 👏🏼👏🏼

This is one of those books that looks good at first, but the more you dig into it the more flaws you see。 The main trouble, naturally, is the nature of the book: the author is trying to sell you on a diet plan。 He talks about all of its successes, particularly for weight loss, with a side mention of other health benefits like reduced blood sugars, cholesterol, etc。。 He mentions other fasting and calorie restriction diets, which appear to have the exact same benefits, but nowhere does he compare This is one of those books that looks good at first, but the more you dig into it the more flaws you see。 The main trouble, naturally, is the nature of the book: the author is trying to sell you on a diet plan。 He talks about all of its successes, particularly for weight loss, with a side mention of other health benefits like reduced blood sugars, cholesterol, etc。。 He mentions other fasting and calorie restriction diets, which appear to have the exact same benefits, but nowhere does he compare them to each other。 A quick glance at the recipe section made me think that this might be where the book's real value lies, but again, I was disappointed。 The recipes were written by two women who don't get author credit, even though the recipes probably took at least as much work as the rest of the book to develop。 That kind of ticked me off。 The recipes showcase a good variety of ingredients and flavors with low calorie counts, but they did not include protein per serving in the analysis, which they should have because one of the points in the book was that people should be getting at least 60 grams of protein a day。 I took a detour on the internet to figure out how much protein was in various foods, and following that, a glance through the pictures makes me think that most of these menus aren't hitting that target of 60 grams。 They're a good model, though, if you double or triple the serving sizes。 A final plus: the recipes are billed as mildly ketogenic, and they look reasonably well balanced, despite being a bit short of the author's stated standards in some ways。All in all, the principle of the diet is okay, but the book didn't add a great deal to my life。 Fortunately it's short and didn't take too much time to read。 。。。more

The book seems well researched and clearly suits many people, but I truly found it brought about weight gain and wished I hadn’t tried it to kickstart a stalled, but otherwise successful period of weight loss

Dona

Haven’t started the “diet “ yet but will do so shortly since there is a history of Type 2 Diabetes in my family。 I hope to do well!! Other reviews looked promising。

Hmm, I’ve heard a lot about this one and was curious。。。I’m not sure I’ll be spending 12 weeks eating only 800 calories a day but I might try to incorporate some of the science backed elements into my January eating regime!

Thanks to the eye-opening information presented by Dr Michael Mosley, I've managed to lose and keep off 22kg。 I don't think there's much more I can say here。 Thanks to the eye-opening information presented by Dr Michael Mosley, I've managed to lose and keep off 22kg。 I don't think there's much more I can say here。 。。。more

Having borrowed the ebook version through my local library I went and bought the paperback。 The appeal of the TV programs by Dr Mosley is backed up by his easygoing presentation style and scientific evidence - especially with himself as the guinea pig。 This seems to be a relatively straightforward diet/eating plan with flexibility, uncomplicated recipes (by his wife who is also a medical doctor) and an almost conversational style that explains the science behind it without being over zealous or Having borrowed the ebook version through my local library I went and bought the paperback。 The appeal of the TV programs by Dr Mosley is backed up by his easygoing presentation style and scientific evidence - especially with himself as the guinea pig。 This seems to be a relatively straightforward diet/eating plan with flexibility, uncomplicated recipes (by his wife who is also a medical doctor) and an almost conversational style that explains the science behind it without being over zealous or making wild claims。 It felt like the overall health benefits of this way of eating are just as important as the actual weight loss。 Just today I've seen news reports entitled 'Why intermittent fasting could be bad for you' - no diet is perfect but especially in western countries any attempt to follow a scientifically proven eating plan that can reduce the risk and symptoms of lifestyle diseases such as Type II Diabetes, Obesity, Heart Disease, etc。 can only be a good thing。 All I need to do now is follow the plan - even a 5% weight loss will bring me significant health benefits so that's a starting goal right there! 。。。more
