End the struggle, speak up for what you need, and experience the freedom of being truly yourself。

Healthy boundaries。 We all know we should have them--in order to achieve work/life balance, cope with toxic people, and enjoy rewarding relationships with partners, friends, and family。 But what do healthy boundaries really mean--and how can we successfully express our needs, say no, and be assertive without offending others?

Licensed counselor, sought-after relationship expert, and one of the most influential therapists on Instagram Nedra Glover Tawwab demystifies this complex topic for today's world。 In a relatable and inclusive tone, Set Boundaries, Find Peace presents simple-yet-powerful ways to establish healthy boundaries in all aspects of life。 Rooted in the latest research and best practices used in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), these techniques help us identify and express our needs clearly and without apology--and unravel a root problem behind codependency, power struggles, anxiety, depression, burnout, and more。

I wish that I had come to this book about 10 years ago。 Finally, a "self-help" book that is practical, timely, and well written。 I love Nedra's use of vignettes that walks through real-life boundaries a person may need to set。 I love that she does not end with discussing the lack of a specific boundary, she gives examples of how one might go about addressing the unmet boundary or need。 She provides clear and helpful suggestions and exercises for the main chapter topic。 I found the exercises to b I wish that I had come to this book about 10 years ago。 Finally, a "self-help" book that is practical, timely, and well written。 I love Nedra's use of vignettes that walks through real-life boundaries a person may need to set。 I love that she does not end with discussing the lack of a specific boundary, she gives examples of how one might go about addressing the unmet boundary or need。 She provides clear and helpful suggestions and exercises for the main chapter topic。 I found the exercises to be very rich and was sometimes surprised at some of my answers。 I believe that reading this book while in relationship with a licensed mental health professiona could honestly help most of us be kinder and have better relationships with ourselves and others。 I want to run and get this book for every person in my life and know it is a book that I will come back to often。 Well done and highly recommended。 。。。more

Well written, engaging book with lots of useful information and helpful journaling exercises。 I appreciate that the author covered the ways trauma and abuse impact our ability to set boundaries, but I felt like I needed a deeper dive and this book just offered an overview。 The main shortcoming is that the book doesn’t really discuss how systems impact our ability to set boundaries。 I also felt complicated about the insistence that boundaries need to be communicated verbally。 On one hand, it was Well written, engaging book with lots of useful information and helpful journaling exercises。 I appreciate that the author covered the ways trauma and abuse impact our ability to set boundaries, but I felt like I needed a deeper dive and this book just offered an overview。 The main shortcoming is that the book doesn’t really discuss how systems impact our ability to set boundaries。 I also felt complicated about the insistence that boundaries need to be communicated verbally。 On one hand, it was encouraging for me and inspired me to communicate some boundaries immediately around issues that I’d brushed off earlier as insignificant, and on the other hand, it feels important to me to have it affirmed that boundaries can be communicated in nonverbal ways and still need to be respected。 。。。more

Disappointing。 I love her Instagram posts and this book is just those repackaged as a book。 If you've never read a thing about boundaries, it's a great primer but I didn't get get much out of it。 Disappointing。 I love her Instagram posts and this book is just those repackaged as a book。 If you've never read a thing about boundaries, it's a great primer but I didn't get get much out of it。 。。。more

OMG! It took me a whole day to finish this book, and I couldn't put the book down, but when I had to do something, I couldn't stop thinking about the book。 I have also been working on the writing down from each chapter。 It makes things clear for me。 I took some time to reflect on setting healthy boundaries with the others。 OMG! I was looking forward to this book but was very disappointed。 Extremely disorganized, topical and repetitive。 It reads like a stream of consciousness, as if written all in one sitting, without prior organization and research。 Lacks good references where they would have been useful; I didn't notice a reference until page 152。 The author uses Instagram polls as evidence, even though anyone who knows about research methodology knows that this is not useful or significant data。 Basically, this book I was looking forward to this book but was very disappointed。 Extremely disorganized, topical and repetitive。 It reads like a stream of consciousness, as if written all in one sitting, without prior organization and research。 Lacks good references where they would have been useful; I didn't notice a reference until page 152。 The author uses Instagram polls as evidence, even though anyone who knows about research methodology knows that this is not useful or significant data。 Basically, this book is just a list of boundary issues and boundaries, repeated over and over and over again。 The author mentions the same information about guilt 3 or 4 times throughout the book。 The author overabuses lists, and frequently makes a new section, only to write 1 or 2 sentences on the topic before moving on。 I found the book to be very shallow。 Also, the author uses vague, new-age terms like "holding space" and "standing in your power" without ever explaining them。 I did not learn a single new thing about boundaries from this book, so I hope older books about boundaries will be better。 I truly do not understand the positive reviews for this book。 A book being easy to read does not make it good。 。。。more

This is a straightforward and insightful book by Nedra Glover Tawwab。 She provides dozens and dozens of clear examples to help set boundaries and explains in clear language the implications and explanations of not having healthy boundaries。 I really appreciate how accessible this book is。 Her explanations and attention to trauma and trauma responses was so accessible and compassionate, I hope she writes more!

I really enjoyed this book and found it to be very practical。 I love the examples of what boundary statements can look like and the reflection exercises at the end of each chapter。 I believe this book has something for everyone!

This book is THE book to read for anyone who wants to be introduced to what boundaries are, and how to go about communicating them and implementing consequences (as needed)。 She breaks down all the major types of boundaries, as well as the different types of relationships we could engage in with better boundaries (including the relationship we have with social media!)。 The book also covers some reasons that people may struggle to implement better boundaries for themselves to begin with。 This is This book is THE book to read for anyone who wants to be introduced to what boundaries are, and how to go about communicating them and implementing consequences (as needed)。 She breaks down all the major types of boundaries, as well as the different types of relationships we could engage in with better boundaries (including the relationship we have with social media!)。 The book also covers some reasons that people may struggle to implement better boundaries for themselves to begin with。 This is a book I will definitely revisit for a refresher every now and then as I make it through this journey called life。 。。。more

If you are a person who interacts with any other person in any way (that means all of you) you absolutely need to read this book。 There were points where I felt that Nedra had a peephole into my life and was personally attacking me (pg 17 made me walk away) but damn。 Just damn。 This book will help you strengthen various relationships in your life which will in turn help alleviate anxiety that comes with that。 I cannot recommend it enough。

I liked the book and see it as a boundaries “bible” of sorts, something that I can go back to reference in various situations in my life。 I enjoy the tips and guidance on how to state boundaries。The advice is tangible and laid out simply - now the work begins!

A great book for people who want to understand more about what boundaries are, why they're important, and how to set and maintain them。 While a lot of this is familiar territory (this subject is one I've needed to learn more about over the years), this book discussed setting boundaries in for things like social media and for setting boundaries with yourself, which were new areas for me to consider。 I'd recommend this book to anyone who is feeling burned out, overwhelmed, frustrated, or resentful A great book for people who want to understand more about what boundaries are, why they're important, and how to set and maintain them。 While a lot of this is familiar territory (this subject is one I've needed to learn more about over the years), this book discussed setting boundaries in for things like social media and for setting boundaries with yourself, which were new areas for me to consider。 I'd recommend this book to anyone who is feeling burned out, overwhelmed, frustrated, or resentful with relationships at work, with family, or with friends。 It's surprising how much of this can be tied back to lack of boundaries, and can be improved by learning how to set and keep them。 。。。more

As much as I wanted to love this book, I didn't。 Her content on Instagram is more educational than this book。 This book is as basic as boundaries get, so I imagine if you are just getting into boundary work, this is a great read。 For those of us not new to boundary work, there is nothing in this book of value。 I would suggest to anyone who wants to really dig deep into boundaries to read Boundaries by Cloud and Townsend。 Unfortunately, I also found it off-putting that she also followed the exact As much as I wanted to love this book, I didn't。 Her content on Instagram is more educational than this book。 This book is as basic as boundaries get, so I imagine if you are just getting into boundary work, this is a great read。 For those of us not new to boundary work, there is nothing in this book of value。 I would suggest to anyone who wants to really dig deep into boundaries to read Boundaries by Cloud and Townsend。 Unfortunately, I also found it off-putting that she also followed the exact same format as the classic by Cloud and Townsend。 。。。more

This book is my self care bible。 Nedra has been an icon for me the last year。 Her book is very digestible and insightful。 It gives suggestions of what to do/say that range for many personality types。 Her examples are realistic, making them easy to follow。 They are also relatable。 If there is one book to read this year for your self care, you've found it here。 This book is my self care bible。 Nedra has been an icon for me the last year。 Her book is very digestible and insightful。 It gives suggestions of what to do/say that range for many personality types。 Her examples are realistic, making them easy to follow。 They are also relatable。 If there is one book to read this year for your self care, you've found it here。 。。。more

I haven't read a book so quick in such a long time。 This is incredibly well written and filled with examples of how to and how not to set boundaries - which is super helpful for someone who struggles with understanding the "rules" of communication。 I've already started to implement boundaries with my S/O who's incredibly understanding。 I haven't read a book so quick in such a long time。 This is incredibly well written and filled with examples of how to and how not to set boundaries - which is super helpful for someone who struggles with understanding the "rules" of communication。 I've already started to implement boundaries with my S/O who's incredibly understanding。 。。。more

Nedra Tawwab is a therapist who specializes in relationships and boundaries。 In this book she explains how lacking boundaries at work, at home and with friendships can lead to burnout。 She gives tangible advice on how to set boundaries and maintain them。 She did an excellent job of convincing me that boundaries are the magic pill to creating a more fulfilling and peaceful life。
