I wish I read this book or had this book for my first child。 I’m feeling very prepared to offer a variety of foods to my second born。 And I’m feeling more empowered and knowledgeable about what it means to make a balanced plate/meal。 It was nothing earth shattering but I think it’s helpful to have categories and lists of foods for baby to eat, ideas on how to prepare and pictures of the different styles depending on which grasp/stage of development your child is in。 There were foods listed that I wish I read this book or had this book for my first child。 I’m feeling very prepared to offer a variety of foods to my second born。 And I’m feeling more empowered and knowledgeable about what it means to make a balanced plate/meal。 It was nothing earth shattering but I think it’s helpful to have categories and lists of foods for baby to eat, ideas on how to prepare and pictures of the different styles depending on which grasp/stage of development your child is in。 There were foods listed that my 4 year old still hasn’t tried! There were opinions of organic vs nonorganic and canned foods that I didn’t necessarily agree with but I wasn’t offended by it like some of the other readers seemed to be。 I think a lot of nutritionists/dietitians tread lightly in some of those topics for various reasons。 Bottom line? Do what you feel is best for you and your family。 。。。more

This book was a good place to start in my blw journey。 I appreciated the full scale pictures and ideas how to serve a variety of foods。 This book helped give me the confidence to get started with blw。 It would have been nice to have more recipes。 This isn’tba cookbook but more so a quick start guide。

I was really excited to start BLW with my little one, but this book actually kind of turned me off of it。 It had some good information for when we do finger foods down the line, but a sample meal plan or more specific information about starting the process would have been great instead of showing me how to cut a bunch of different foods into the same shape。

Has great information if you want to start BLW。 However, I would also suggest watching some videos about it as well, since I feel like this book didn't include absolutely everything。 But it's a great place to start! This book was so helpful! I’ve been using it as a reference since I bought it in January but I finally sat down and just read the whole thing today and it really helped my anxiety about BLW and helped me make a list to keep in mind every time we’re at the grocery so we have things on hand that we love that he can also eat。 Definitely recommend if you’re planning to try BLW!

Really useful read。 Swapping from puréed foods to BLW and really didn't know where to start and this explained it all perfectly。 Really useful read。 Swapping from puréed foods to BLW and really didn't know where to start and this explained it all perfectly。 。。。more

It could have been a blog post type of a book。 Dry, super shallow (even for a primer), and somewhat condescending。

A quick and easy read。 I sort of wish I was given a meal plan for the first few days because I'm a little nervous to get started。 That being said, the instructions on actual portion sizes is helpful, and the idea to roll slippery foods in ground flaxseed was super helpful。 Let's get started。 A quick and easy read。 I sort of wish I was given a meal plan for the first few days because I'm a little nervous to get started。 That being said, the instructions on actual portion sizes is helpful, and the idea to roll slippery foods in ground flaxseed was super helpful。 Let's get started。 。。。more

Too simple。 I still had a lot of questions and was unsure where to start after finishing this。 I did like the background info for BLW and section on allergies。

I followed the author on instagram and really enjoyed her personality。 I found her instagram to be VERY helpful。 The book is very cut and dry。 Emphasis on simple。 Worth checking out at the library but not for purchase。

Straightforward and simple guide to starting baby-led feeding by a registered dietitian nutritionist。 Contains helpful pictures。 Thankfully, it provides just enough information (and the important safety information) to get started, without overwhelming details。

3。5 starsI appreciated the portion size and serving suggestions that were pictured to scale, I found the overall book lacking。 It didn't make me feel more confident about baby-led weaning or fully addresses some of my questions and concerns。 I So Liked It for a basic overview, but not as a go-to resource。 This is one I'd suggest getting from the library, rather than buying。 3。5 starsI appreciated the portion size and serving suggestions that were pictured to scale, I found the overall book lacking。 It didn't make me feel more confident about baby-led weaning or fully addresses some of my questions and concerns。 I So Liked It for a basic overview, but not as a go-to resource。 This is one I'd suggest getting from the library, rather than buying。 。。。more

Very helpful information on the basics of starting solids。 This book would be great as a foundation for a menu of foods/meals to prepare for baby (I will definitely use it as such to help reduce some of the stress around buying and preparing nutritious food for my baby)。 I’m feeling more confident on what/how to serve in a way that promotes self-regulation and a healthy relationship with food!

Good info to start our kids journey with food。

Bonnie

The information in this book was useful, but didn’t really justify the length of an w rite book。 I was mostly interested in the to scale photos of the foods but they weren’t as helpful in practice as I’d hope。 I ultimately felt this book was a waste of money for the amount of use I got out of it。

Jenn

Good information about BLW, but no recipes

Sofia

As someone new to BLW I really liked how easy it was to read this book。 It was not too overwhelming and it was a short and quick read, something I really appreciate as a busy mom。

Great BookGreat book that discusses the Palmer and pincer grasp as well as the 3 important nutrients to focus on when feeding your baby。

I really like her approach better than others I've heard about。 And she's upfront about asking your own Pediatrician about allergies and stuff like that to make sure the information is as up to date as possible。 I'll definitely be using this as reference。 I really like her approach better than others I've heard about。 And she's upfront about asking your own Pediatrician about allergies and stuff like that to make sure the information is as up to date as possible。 I'll definitely be using this as reference。 。。。more

An easy to read explanation of Baby Led Weaning (BLW) which is letting a baby feed themselves。 The author gives you guidance into the definition of BLW and how to successfully introduce solids into your child's life。 The author also gives support for allergies and alternatives。 A little overwhelming at first, as I am reading in preparation for introducing solids, but I know that I will be coming back to this book as a reference time and time again。 Very informative and educational。 An easy to read explanation of Baby Led Weaning (BLW) which is letting a baby feed themselves。 The author gives you guidance into the definition of BLW and how to successfully introduce solids into your child's life。 The author also gives support for allergies and alternatives。 A little overwhelming at first, as I am reading in preparation for introducing solids, but I know that I will be coming back to this book as a reference time and time again。 Very informative and educational。 。。。more

*I was given this book for free from the publisher* I found this book very straight forward and helpful to explain BLW。 I appreciated the examples and pictures, and I especially liked the balanced meal ideas。 I would have liked a suggestion for what order to introduce different categories of food。 Like another reviewer said this book is "woo" free。 *I was given this book for free from the publisher* I found this book very straight forward and helpful to explain BLW。 I appreciated the examples and pictures, and I especially liked the balanced meal ideas。 I would have liked a suggestion for what order to introduce different categories of food。 Like another reviewer said this book is "woo" free。 。。。more

Beautiful pictures and some good info but I still feel left adrift about how to know if my baby is ready to start。

I purchased this book because I follow Malina’s Instagram page and wanted a little more guidance on how to begin introducing food to my baby。 While there were definitely some concrete suggestions for how to prepare single ingredients, I wished there was some sort of sample timeline on how one might introduce these foods, like if a baby has a mild reaction to something, how long should I wait until I try that food again? Or what might be the easiest foods to introduce first, and what might be a little better a few weeks down the road? How long should I stick to these sort of “single food” meals and when can I start introducing more complex dishes?I also thought there might be a few simple recipes or cooking methods to try, but not really。 I was particularly nervous about introducing meat to my baby。 I tried making her a “finger-shaped meatball” made of turkey today and it went surprisingly well。 But I made it just out of lightly seasoned meat。 I didn’t think it was a good idea to add egg or breadcrumbs to help bind the meat since she’s just starting out foods and egg and wheat are both common allergens。 As someone who is a fairly experienced home cook I guess I wanted more guidance on how to bridge the gap between eating a banana finger at 6 months and being a fully competent eater a few short years later (I get that it will be a very personal journey but I like guidance!)。 。。。more

I like that this is pretty woo-free and makes BLW accessible to everyone。
