Summary

Ellery's never been to Echo Ridge, but she's heard all about it。 It's where her aunt went missing at age sixteen, never to return。 Where a Homecoming Queen's murder five years ago made national news。 And where Ellery now has to live with a grandmother she barely knows, after her failed-actress mother lands in rehab。 No one knows what happened to either girl, and Ellery's family is still haunted by their loss。
Malcolm grew up in the shadow of the Homecoming Queen's death。 His older brother was the prime suspect and left Echo Ridge in disgrace。 His mother's remarriage vaulted her and Malcolm into Echo Ridge's upper crust, but their new status grows shaky when mysterious threats around town hint that a killer plans to strike again。 No one has forgotten Malcolm's brother-and nobody trusts him when he suddenly returns to town。

Ellery and Malcolm both know it's hard to let go when you don't have closure。 Then another girl disappears, and Ellery and Malcolm were the last people to see her alive。 As they race to unravel what happened, they realize every secret has layers in Echo Ridge。 The truth might be closer to home than either of them want to believe。

And somebody would kill to keep it hidden。

3。5 StarsI enjoyed this book overall, although I found that it fell a little flat when compared to One of Us is Lying。 Some of the twists were predictable but I appreciated how everything tied together in the end。

I’ve read many of Karen McManus books and this one is like all the others, beautifully written and such a good mystery。 I was in the dark until the end when it all unraveled and even though this book is about a murder mystery, i felt peaceful while reading。 Something else i love is the way the chapters end。 Most of the time it ends with something unraveling or something to really think about。

may not sleep tonight from this one, but i genuinely couldn’t put it down。 I actually didn’t see the end coming and it had some really interesting characters。 I would highly recommendabout twins who go back to their moms hometown。 this small town holds a LOT of secrets and trauma from many years ago。 Bone chilling and definitely spooked me

The ending of this book makes me want to rate this higher than a 3, but I found the whole first part to be so slow and hard to get into。 It’s not my favorite McManus book, but another well thought out YA mystery that I’m happy to have on my shelf。

This has a great ending。 The reason I have not given this a higher (4 star) rating is because more than half of the novel is quite simply put, boring。 It took 70% of the novel for me to start caring。 There are a lot of characters, a lot of back story and development。 However, the way it's presented felt very much like 'okay, here is some back story' and then 'okay, here is some character development' then 'okay, here is some more back story' and then a bunch of stuff happening that then gives 's This has a great ending。 The reason I have not given this a higher (4 star) rating is because more than half of the novel is quite simply put, boring。 It took 70% of the novel for me to start caring。 There are a lot of characters, a lot of back story and development。 However, the way it's presented felt very much like 'okay, here is some back story' and then 'okay, here is some character development' then 'okay, here is some more back story' and then a bunch of stuff happening that then gives 'some more back story'。 Is all of that needed for the pay off at the end? Arguably, yes。 I just don't like the way it's done。 A lot of it doesn't feel organic。 Even the misdirects you know are misdirects。 It could be that I just didn't connect with any of the characters。 All of their problems and issues, I just didn't care。 There are no major stakes through most of the novel。 You're supposed to care that three girls lives are being threatened and at no point was I worried for anyone。 Overall, great ending that made sense and was rewarding but just a veeeeeeerry slow build up to it, in my opinion。 。。。more

Entertaining, but I figured it out pretty early on。

The last third of the book I enjoyed because it was fast paced and majorly eye opening to the story line。 The ending shocked me very much。 However it took me a while to force my self to finish this book because of how utterly dry the story gets after a few chapters。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Fun book。 Pretty entertaining。 The beginning felt slow, got good at the 75% mark with the real time murder and everything。 The part Brooke was missing, then when she died, soo good。 I liked the characters and their stories。 Malcom and Ellery are cute。 The twin theme was nice。 I liked Ezra/Ellery, Malcom/Duncan sibling relationship。 I felt at some points it was too much。 Too complicated。 All the half sibling, step parents, relationships, gossip, very confusing。 The ending not satisfying。 Basicall Fun book。 Pretty entertaining。 The beginning felt slow, got good at the 75% mark with the real time murder and everything。 The part Brooke was missing, then when she died, soo good。 I liked the characters and their stories。 Malcom and Ellery are cute。 The twin theme was nice。 I liked Ezra/Ellery, Malcom/Duncan sibling relationship。 I felt at some points it was too much。 Too complicated。 All the half sibling, step parents, relationships, gossip, very confusing。 The ending not satisfying。 Basically Malcom stepdad=pedo killer。 He hot and rich, name=Peter, hooks up with teenage girls then things go bad and kills them。 And the whole twist was that he meant to kill Sadie not Sarah。 That I didn't understand the last line till I searched it up after。 Pretty confusing。 It was ok。 Entertaining book but the murder thriller part not so interesting。 。。。more

I listened t this on audio and thought both readers did passably well。 This book has its place, specifically the beach when you have one of those fruity cocktails with an umbrella。 This book is only so-so; it's an overly dramatic, mediocre written fluff that could easily be written as a over dramatized CW teen drama。 The characters are flat, the chemistry is lackluster, the mystery isn't really one, and there's too much going on without letting any of the plot threads breathe and develop。 But th I listened t this on audio and thought both readers did passably well。 This book has its place, specifically the beach when you have one of those fruity cocktails with an umbrella。 This book is only so-so; it's an overly dramatic, mediocre written fluff that could easily be written as a over dramatized CW teen drama。 The characters are flat, the chemistry is lackluster, the mystery isn't really one, and there's too much going on without letting any of the plot threads breathe and develop。 But this book would make for a good summer, beach read。 Quick, you don't have to be too invested, and when it's over you can move on to the next one。 。。。more

Surprisingly enjoyed this one。 I usually abhor books where a teenager is a better detective than the actual detectives (I’m talking about you, Truly Devious)。 At least in this one, Ellery admits that half the time she doesn’t know what she’s talking about, and the other characters listen to her with a grain of salt。 I liked the plot, characters, and dialogue。 Everything flowed, and I was actually surprised by the ending。 Would recommend。

The endings on these books should probs be illegal because they always have that one bombshell piece of information you didn’t expect, and they don’t even leave the romances satisfactorily tied up。 This book though in all was incredible I didn’t expect the plot twists at all and I loved the setting and everything that happened around the murder investigations also。 There was so much going on and also just a lot of important discussions raised that I thought were great。

。。。more

I really loved this book I personally think it’s better than one of us is lying and one of us is next。 The stakes are higher and the characters are more complex compared to the previous books。 I recommend this to anyone it was really good and there is no way you can predict the mystery like the previous books。

This is a good book! This author definitely knows how to write a murder mystery idea。 I really love Mia and the brother (I can't remember his name right now。) I wish there was more detail about the mc's looks, traits, and hobbies。 I found it a bit difficult to picture her。 There was something missing; it had all the makings for a spectacular book, but something fell short。 I don't know, this book just wasn't for me although I did appreciate the brother's reference to mean girls ;) This is a good book!
