I wanted to like it more。 But after the heart-wrenching (in a beautiful way) all engrossing "Firefly Lane," this was so heavy, so dark, so negative。 I wasn't expecting that。 Kristin Hannah certainly took Kurt Vonnegut Jr。's advice and did terrible things to her characters。 It was an easy read。 And if you are a fan of the first book that introduced these characters, you will be invested in reading this book, too。 For me, it seems there's a book 3 to all this。 The ending wasn't that satisfying。 Mo I wanted to like it more。 But after the heart-wrenching (in a beautiful way) all engrossing "Firefly Lane," this was so heavy, so dark, so negative。 I wasn't expecting that。 Kristin Hannah certainly took Kurt Vonnegut Jr。's advice and did terrible things to her characters。 It was an easy read。 And if you are a fan of the first book that introduced these characters, you will be invested in reading this book, too。 For me, it seems there's a book 3 to all this。 The ending wasn't that satisfying。 More interesting to note is the structure of this story。 There is so so so much bouncing between POVs and telling and retelling of the same scenes and events from different characters。 I feel as if I was reading the same pages again and again, and you have to stop and think, wait, who's talking now? And there are literally pick-up paragraphs and lines from the first book。 I can't tell if this was particularly hard to write this way or if it was a cop out。 If you really loved Firefly Lane, don't ruin it。 Maybe you shouldn't read this sequel。 。。。more
Courtney Freet,
Not as good as Firefly Lane, but I loved hearing the story of Dorothy and seeing Tully come full circle。
Laura Machado,
I didn't like this book - I found it very repetitive and too melodramatic, with all the out of body experiences in the hospital, plus all the misery every character was feeling at every step throughout the novel。I understand this sort of book appeals to many people, but I'm just not one of them。 I enjoy deeper stories, I can read about tragedies all day long, but they need to be told in an unique way, otherwise I feel I am listening to the news or reading someone's diary。 Not a fan of either。 I didn't like this book - I found it very repetitive and too melodramatic, with all the out of body experiences in the hospital, plus all the misery every character was feeling at every step throughout the novel。I understand this sort of book appeals to many people, but I'm just not one of them。 I enjoy deeper stories, I can read about tragedies all day long, but they need to be told in an unique way, otherwise I feel I am listening to the news or reading someone's diary。 Not a fan of either。 。。。more
Mountaintrekker,
I read this book as soon as I finished “Firefly Lane”。 Actually, I liked this sequel better than the original book。 It was good to read Dorothy’s a。k。a。 Cloud story。 It put things into perspective。
Rachel Fitzgerald,
Even better than Firefly Lane!
Kristen Herhold,
I really enjoyed this book – it’s hard to dislike anything from Kristin Hannah! I didn’t love it as much as Firefly Lane but still really liked reading about the lives of Tully, Marah, Johnny, and Dorothy after the events of the first book。 It’s definitely worth a read if you enjoyed Firefly Lane
Nicole J Kamath,
BeautifulBeautifully written story of life loss and above all, love。 Brought tears to my eyes to feel what the characters felt。
Natalie,
This one touched my heart strings like the first one。 Firefly Lane left me sobbing, this one simply had me in tears。 Maybe it’s because it’s reminds me of the relationship I have with my own best friend and we were teenagers in the 80s。
Jennifer Kolb,
I feel like I didn’t put Firefly Lane down and just continued this story! Was happy with the sequel and how I got answers from the first book that I maybe didn’t even realize I needed answers too! The books theme of love and friendship and family was carried out through this book as well and left me on edge at moments if they would pull through to the end。 Overall, great sequel to Firefly Lane。
Jill,
I had not read the previous book in the series, so some of the details about the relationships was a bit murky。 However, book #1 is not really a prerequisite。 If it's like this one in tone and focus, I don't think I'll be going back to read it either。 The first 90% of this book was almost unbearably dismal, full of depression, angst, emotion, failed relationships, disappointments, misunderstandings, and family drama。 The final 10% brought it all together into a satisfactory conclusion, but it wa I had not read the previous book in the series, so some of the details about the relationships was a bit murky。 However, book #1 is not really a prerequisite。 If it's like this one in tone and focus, I don't think I'll be going back to read it either。 The first 90% of this book was almost unbearably dismal, full of depression, angst, emotion, failed relationships, disappointments, misunderstandings, and family drama。 The final 10% brought it all together into a satisfactory conclusion, but it was a bit of a slog to get through the long, depressing lead up to that point。 I have enjoyed reading several other more recent Kristin Hannah novels, but I'll sure to read the reviews first before delving into her earlier works ! 。。。more
Rachel Clifton,
Beautiful story of the ties that bind us through this life and after。
Cassandra Thomas,
This book was good, but I enjoyed firefly lane much more。 It was a good sequel but took a while to get going and was still a very long book for the action that actually happened。
Susan Parsons,
While I didn't love this one as much as I loved the original Firefly Lane, I still cried and I finished it in like 3 days。。。so, here we are。 While I didn't love this one as much as I loved the original Firefly Lane, I still cried and I finished it in like 3 days。。。so, here we are。 。。。more
Katria Kimble,
Sequel to firefly lane。 Don’t read if you want a cheerful book。
Leah Wood,
I just didn’t love it, depressing and the story dragged 。。。。
A Barnes,
Loved it。 Now to decide whether to watch it on Netflix or not!
Angelica Beckman,
I think I liked this one better than the first book。 My opinion of Dorothy completely changed and was reminded once again how one should not judge。
Rita Maqdas,

LaurenD,
Took me a long time to finish this because I read other books in between。 Had to finish it because it is the sequel to Firefly Lane。 Got kind of bored with it and ready to move on but glad I read it。 ✅
Rachel Kreider,
After I finished Firefly Lane I imagined what would happen next, as I’m sure most readers do。 I have to say, I prefer my version to this sequel。 Fly Away is SUCH a downer - it wasn’t enjoyable to read and felt very grueling to get though。 Probably should have been a DNF for me。
Leslie Davis,
Meh。 It felt like a rehash of the first book while continuing on to everyone getting back together after a bad accident。 Not worth the time。
Catherine Beaver,
This was probably my least favorite Kristin Hannah book。 It was really slow to get into and it took me a while to finish。 I enjoyed Cloud’s back story, but that was probably the only part of the book that kept me going。
Milly,
Probably one of the saddest and most difficult stories I’ve read in a while。 Finished and had a good cry— although, I’m always sad when a good story ends。
Jenn,
Very quick read with some touching if somewhat cliche moments。 I didn’t love how the book was written with the switching between narrators and from past to present。 I’m not sure how realistic the story was as far as addiction/addiction recovery and grief/grief recovery, coma/coma recovery, etc but obviously it’s fiction, so maybe that’s not a huge concern。
Malinda,
This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 There's a reason no one made a sequel to Beaches。。。 I only read this book because I had to know how the story on Firefly Lane ends。 I wanted Marah to have some character growth, and that's not what the author chose to write。Woefully dull, and unoriginal。 Firefly Lane wasn't great, so I had low expectations for the 2nd book。 Honestly, this book undoes or even ignores some of the decent character work of the first book。 There's a reason no one made a sequel to Beaches。。。 I only read this book because I had to know how the story on Firefly Lane ends。 I wanted Marah to have some character growth, and that's not what the author chose to write。Woefully dull, and unoriginal。 Firefly Lane wasn't great, so I had low expectations for the 2nd book。 Honestly, this book undoes or even ignores some of the decent character work of the first book。 。。。more
Shelley,
This book was a beat down。 A gratuitous, exhausting, repetitive, and unnecessary sequel。 A person picking up the 2nd book in a series does not need an extensive, exhausting recap of the first book。 I am a Kristen Hannah fan, but this was a big no for me。 Read Firefly Lane and end it。
Monica,
I enjoyed the first book in this series much more。 This one was pretty disappointing。
Shalee,
Maybe it's just me, but the majority if this book was depressing。 It ends well enough but it was kinda heavy。 Maybe it's just me, but the majority if this book was depressing。 It ends well enough but it was kinda heavy。 。。。more
