Not sure if I can put into words how great this was （which I believe was actually a version of a quote in this book）， but here it goes--I dove into this book not knowing what any of the stories were about。 Needless to say， I was definitely taken aback by most of them。 These "novellas" each tell a story about life it its rawest form， and so I think that to tell some of these stories any other way would be telling the reader a fantastical lie and story。 That wasn't King's goal here， and even thoug Not sure if I can put into words how great this was （which I believe was actually a version of a quote in this book）， but here it goes--I dove into this book not knowing what any of the stories were about。 Needless to say， I was definitely taken aback by most of them。 These "novellas" each tell a story about life it its rawest form， and so I think that to tell some of these stories any other way would be telling the reader a fantastical lie and story。 That wasn't King's goal here， and even though some （or rather - most） of the stories were really messed up and horrific， I found it to be a brilliant composition。 。。。more

Velmi vychvalovaná a prý nejlepší povídková sbírka。 Obsahuje 4 povídky a tři z nich jsou zfilmovány。 A moc dobře。 ☝🏻Než se začnu zaobírat každou povídkou zvlášť chci podotknout， že mi chyběly autora doslovy a úvody k povídkám。 Já to totiž beru něco jako spojení – dopis od autora， nebo jako by si k vám přisedl k baru a vyprávěl vám proč a za jakých okolností tu povídku napsal。 ▪️První povídka s názvem Rita Hayeorthová a vykoupení z věznice Shawshank je příběhem o naději， která neumírá。 Red – chlá Velmi vychvalovaná a prý nejlepší povídková sbírka。 Obsahuje 4 povídky a tři z nich jsou zfilmovány。 A moc dobře。 ☝🏻Než se začnu zaobírat každou povídkou zvlášť chci podotknout， že mi chyběly autora doslovy a úvody k povídkám。 Já to totiž beru něco jako spojení – dopis od autora， nebo jako by si k vám přisedl k baru a vyprávěl vám proč a za jakých okolností tu povídku napsal。 ▪️První povídka s názvem Rita Hayeorthová a vykoupení z věznice Shawshank je příběhem o naději， která neumírá。 Red – chlápek， který vám za určitý obnos peněz sežene cokoli vypráví o vězni Andym Dufresneovi， který je stejně jako on odsouzen na doživotí。Film Vykoupení z věznice Shawshank byl skvělý ostatně jako všechny staré filmy。 Skvělá práce z povídky o 99 stranách udělat film， který má přes dvě hodiny。⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐▪️Povídka o Toddovi， který je blázen do druhé světové války s názvem Nadaný žák je příběh o zvrácenosti。 Už od začátku jsem chápala proč。 Můj pocit se stránku od stránky prohluboval。 Povídka se odehrává během roku 1974-1977。 Todd zjistí， že jejich osamělý soused je ve skutečnosti Kurt Dussander – válečný zločinec。 Navzájem se vydírají a parazitují na sobě， protože jeden zná tajemství druhého。 Výborná ukázka toho co s člověkem může provést JEHO VELKÝ ZÁJEM。Co se týče filmu tak byl skvělý， ale chvílemi uspěchaný a trochu pozměněný。⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐▪️Tělo je třetí povídka， která je také zfilmována pod názvem Stůj při mně。 Roku 1960 se skupina kluků rozhodnou vydat se na cestu， aby se podívali na mrtvé tělo malého kluka， o kterém nikoho nic neví。 Gordie， Teddy， Chris a Vern zažívají dobrodružství， o kterých se jim nikdy nezdálo。Povídka se odehrává v Castle Rocku， kde je mladý Eso Merill i vzpomínka na psa Cuja。 Skvělé jak autor připojuje své příběhy。 Člověk čte， čte a musí se zastavit， protože si vzpomene， že postavu nebo prostředí odněkud zná。 Víc to člověka utvrzuje， že to prostředí， město i postavy vážně existují。 Aspoň na mě to tak působí。 ⭐⭐⭐⭐▪️Dýchací metoda je poslední povídka， ve které třiasedmdesátiletý David vypráví o členství v klubu， ve kterém je okolo 10 let。 Nacházel knihy a vydavatele， o kterých nikdo nikdy neslyšel a slyšel víc než dost zvláštních historek。 Jedna z nich nazvaná Dýchací metoda vyprávěna o Vánocích。Samotná historka mě moc bavila。 Už jen proto， že je to vyprávění o tom jaké bylo porodnictví a přístup k ženám okolo roku 1935。⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 。。。more

4 novellas that all are （obviously） very well written。 I will say， the second story （apt pupil） started strong but definitely dragged on a bit for me。 That story could have easily been 20-30 pages shorter and still be just as， if not more， compelling。 I actually had to take a break after it as I found my self dreading continuing and not engaging in the next story。 But！ That’s the beauty of novellas， as a break is pretty much built in， and when I did finally come back to this book I tore through 4 novellas that all are （obviously） very well written。 I will say， the second story （apt pupil） started strong but definitely dragged on a bit for me。 That story could have easily been 20-30 pages shorter and still be just as， if not more， compelling。 I actually had to take a break after it as I found my self dreading continuing and not engaging in the next story。 But！ That’s the beauty of novellas， as a break is pretty much built in， and when I did finally come back to this book I tore through the last 2 stories with great interest。 Would definitely recommend overall。 。。。more

This is a great collection of novellas。 Even though I was already intimately familiar with the plots of Shawshank and The Body courtesy of their film adaptations， I was nevertheless riveted throughout， so good was the writing。 I also really enjoyed the Breathing Method--that one stayed with me for a while--I would love to know more about the world/universe represented by The Gentleman's Club。 Highly recommended。 This is a great collection of novellas。 Even though I was already intimately familiar with the plots of Shawshank and The Body courtesy of their film adaptations， I was nevertheless riveted throughout， so good was the writing。 I also really enjoyed the Breathing Method--that one stayed with me for a while--I would love to know more about the world/universe represented by The Gentleman's Club。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

A book divided in 4 short stories， none of them related to the horror genre。 My favorite one without a doubt is Shawshank Redemption， the 3 remaining are good but not my favorites from King。 Apt Pupil is kinda creepy， a lot of people complained about that one， The Body is good but not good enough and The Breathing Method （the shorter one） is meh。 I’d not recommend this one to new King readers， because all of them are kinda slow。

So glad I finally took the time to read this one。 Two of the stories--"Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption"， and "The Body" （aka "Stand By Me"） are absolutely beautiful stories about life， and "The Breathing Method" is a great spooky story。 "Apt Pupil" was rather disturbing， especially one scene in particular。 But overall I loved this unique collection of stories， from Master Storyteller Stephen King。 So glad I finally took the time to read this one。 Two of the stories--"Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption"， and "The Body" （aka "Stand By Me"） are absolutely beautiful stories about life， and "The Breathing Method" is a great spooky story。 "Apt Pupil" was rather disturbing， especially one scene in particular。 But overall I loved this unique collection of stories， from Master Storyteller Stephen King。 。。。more

Different Seasons is a collection featuring four novellas - Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption， Apt Pupil， The Body， and The Breathing Method。 Out of all of Stephen King’s novella collections I’ve read to date， this has been my favourite， with all four stories being incredibly strong ones。 Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption - most people have seen Shawshank Redemption （I think！ I hope at least， because it’s an excellent movie）。 And truly， the movie is a nearly excellent adaptation of the Different Seasons is a collection featuring four novellas - Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption， Apt Pupil， The Body， and The Breathing Method。 Out of all of Stephen King’s novella collections I’ve read to date， this has been my favourite， with all four stories being incredibly strong ones。 Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption - most people have seen Shawshank Redemption （I think！ I hope at least， because it’s an excellent movie）。 And truly， the movie is a nearly excellent adaptation of the novella。 Of the four stories in the collection， this is the best one， and I’ve you’re not interested in reading the whole collection， reading this on it’s own is one I recommend to anyone。 Apt Pupil - This is the darkest story of the bunch， and contains the most content warnings， dealing with excessive aggressive and racism， revolving around a Nazi war criminal as an old man and a younger boy who wants to hear his stories。 It was incredibly hard to read， but in a way that is surprisingly impactful， and one that will stay with me forever。 The Body - Most people know this as the Stand By Me movie， which is you haven’t seen， you’ve missed out on something wonderful。 The novella is again， equally as good， with the movie having been a nearly perfect adaptation。 King really shines in his coming-of-age stories， and this is no different。 Another one I’d recommend to anyone because while it has a gut-punch of an ending， the friendship in the story is beautiful。 The Breathing Method - The least talked about of the bunch it seems， but one that was suiting to the collection。 Not quite as disturbing as Apt Pupil， but haunting in its own way， this is one that reminds you that King was primarily a horror writer。 The only of the four that hasn’t been made in to a movie， which to be is unfortunate because it was a fascinating story that I think would translate well to screen， and is one I wish more people gave a shot to。 All in all， these four novellas are some of King’s best， and some of the best ones to get people to realize King isn’t just a horror writer， and he’s at some of his best when he branches away from it。 The movies have made two of these fairly well known， but reading them feels even better， and everyone should give this collection a chance - just be warned for Apt Pupil if you need to skip that one。 。。。more
