A trippy collection of creepy stories。 Some were creepier than others。 There were one that seemed to fall flat for me。 A few that made me go “oh f%*#”。 Stephen King’s mind out in a collection of short stories。 Do you dare?

Enjoyable and classic Stephen King; however, "If It Bleeds" is a superior collection of short stories。 Enjoyable and classic Stephen King; however, "If It Bleeds" is a superior collection of short stories。 。。。more

In this collection of short stories, King displays a mastery of the quick take, a stark contrast to his novels。 They are longer than campfire tales but concise enough to read in one sitting and be entertained and a bit spooked。 Great short read!

A very atmospheric short story, quite eerie!Should have saved it for the spooky season, definitely recommend! If you have the chance listen to the audiobook where the narrator is Stephen King himself 😊

I read 1408 after having seen it as an editing exercise in Stephen King's On Writing。 It's whole point is to be a typical Haunted Hotel story, and that it was。 It was fine, but i don't think nuanced enough for me to get particularly excited about。 I read 1408 after having seen it as an editing exercise in Stephen King's On Writing。 It's whole point is to be a typical Haunted Hotel story, and that it was。 It was fine, but i don't think nuanced enough for me to get particularly excited about。 。。。more

It’s a 4。5 stars。 Really enjoyed many of the short stories in this one!

Very enjoyable short stories, with a wide range of different kinds of horror and suspense。 Of course some were better than others, but most of that comes down to personal taste。 "1408" was probably my favorite, but several others immediately struck a chord as well。 Very enjoyable short stories, with a wide range of different kinds of horror and suspense。 Of course some were better than others, but most of that comes down to personal taste。 "1408" was probably my favorite, but several others immediately struck a chord as well。 。。。more

I loved Autopsy Room 4 and a few other, but most of the stories were just boring。I thought it would be a good idea to start reading the King by a few short stories but now I think I should have jump into The Stand straight away。

A great way for "The master of horror" (and other genres) to represent himself to the masses。 There is not one story that I did not like。 All 14 of them were great in there own inevitable way。 This was the first King I ever read and I don't regret choosing it。 A great way for "The master of horror" (and other genres) to represent himself to the masses。 There is not one story that I did not like。 All 14 of them were great in there own inevitable way。 This was the first King I ever read and I don't regret choosing it。 。。。more

There were a couple stories that didn’t fully strike my fancy but the rest more than made up for it。 This was my first Stephen King book in awhile, and I forget how much mastery he has over the written word。 Definitely picking up another SK book soon!

I enjoyed this collection overall。 As with any short story collection, some were more successful than others。 But none of them were bad enough for me to skip on to the next。 I especially enjoyed “Autopsy Room Four,” “The Little Sisters or Eluria,” and “1408。” There’s an unusually high number of unhappy marriages in this collection。 And everyone either smokes or is trying to quit。 Every story seemed to be fueled by angsty relationships and nicotine。 But I found this to be by and large and fun mix I enjoyed this collection overall。 As with any short story collection, some were more successful than others。 But none of them were bad enough for me to skip on to the next。 I especially enjoyed “Autopsy Room Four,” “The Little Sisters or Eluria,” and “1408。” There’s an unusually high number of unhappy marriages in this collection。 And everyone either smokes or is trying to quit。 Every story seemed to be fueled by angsty relationships and nicotine。 But I found this to be by and large and fun mix。 。。。more

I bought this collection because of the short story it contains that is related to The Dark Tower series; it ended up being full of amazing shorts that I absolutely loved - Riding the Bullet, The Man in the Black Suit (a modern-ish telling of Young Goodman Brown), The Theory of Pets, Room 1408。 Definitely a must read for any fan of King。

Personally, I liked this book, because it consists of some really great stories, but it is still a slight letdown, more so because I really enjoyed King's other collection (Night Watch)。I didn't like some of the stories because they felt 'filler' and unnecessary, and at some point, I felt that King just shoved everything he wrote in this collection and said - send it to the publisher! This is probably the best collection of shot stories yet。 I really enjoyed some of them, and overall liked most of them in general。 I don't think there is a single one I would say I just disliked, although there were a few that didn't quite thrill me。 But they were still good!Autopsy Room Four - 3/5I love the concept of this because it's super creepy。 And it has a lot of quick set emotions from the main character。Overall I think I was kind of disappointed because it ended up being a little less This is probably the best collection of shot stories yet。 I really enjoyed some of them, and overall liked most of them in general。 I don't think there is a single one I would say I just disliked, although there were a few that didn't quite thrill me。 But they were still good!Autopsy Room Four - 3/5I love the concept of this because it's super creepy。 And it has a lot of quick set emotions from the main character。Overall I think I was kind of disappointed because it ended up being a little less serious than I'd have liked for the concept, but it was still good。The Man In The Black Suit - 3/5A good level of creepy。 Not too long and decently paced。All That You Love Will Be Carried Away - 4/5I wasn't too sure about this one but at the end I was just sad。 You really just feel bad for the protagonist。 And it's very real。The Death of Jack Hamilton - 2。5/5This is one of the ones where it's just not my kind of style of story。 I understand it's semi based on actual fact and that is honestly terrifying。 But as a whole it's just not for me。 It's not at all bad though。In the Deathroom - 2。5/5Two in a row that just aren't my kind of thing。 But again, not bad at all。 I just base these ratings off my level of enjoyment。The Little Sisters of Eluria - 4。5/5This just made me even more excited to reread The Dark Tower。 I went back and forth on when to read this, like if I should wait until I'd read The Gunslinger again。 But I'm glad I didn't。 You definitely don't need to have read it to enjoy it, like SK said in the preface。 Roland isn't my favourite character, that goes to Cuthbert, but I still just can't wait。 I'm so close too。Everything's Eventual - 3/5This reminded me very very much of The Institute。 I guess technically it's the other way around, but I'd completely forgotten that this story existed。 I love the concept but the main character didn't exactly grab me so it got a lower rating。L。T。's Theory of Pets - 3/5I had a cat named Lucy and she was insane as a kitten, so I can relate a bit to this。 But I love my Lil lady。The creepy ending really made it better。 Overall a good and short read。The Road Virus Heads North - 2。5/5I thought this related back to The Stand because the title is vaguely Plagelike, but I realize now I'm just thinking of Night Surf from Night Shift。I don't really like the concept of this story so it didn't really thrill me。 But I still didn't outright dislike it。 It was done really well and it didn't ramble on。Lunch at the Gotham Café - 3/5I love the cover of this book, and this is the story it comes from。 So it makes me a little sad I didn't love it more。 I think it's just the maître d' being a little too insane and incoherent that did it in for me。 EEEEEEE doesn't translate super well and all I can think of is a robot? I don't know。That Feeling, You Can Only Say What It Is In French - 5/5My favourite in this collection。 It definitely has an overall unsettling tone, and it can also be a bit confusing maybe。 Confusing probably isn't the most accurate word。 But whatever。Anyway。 When I realized what was happening I really really loved it。1408 - 3。5/5I like this story, and I also liked the movie。 Something of a rarity for SK。 It wasn't as overly descriptive as I think I would have liked (for once) but it's still a really solid read。 The conversation with the Manager was around the same length, if not longer as the stay in the room itself。 But I actually enjoyed the conversation with Olin so that's good。 The second creepy hotel themed work, but The Shining will always win out。Riding The Bullet - 3/5What was the other one with dead people in cars? Was it Christine? I think so。 I didn't like Christine。This is better, but because it has a huge overlaying plot of choosing between morality and mortality。 Can you ever pick the right choice? It's just kind of a sad story。Luckey Quarter - 3/5Can I please have this quarter? I'd be happier with it than Darlene。 。。。more

Stephen King’s reputation makes him out to be some sort of monster, a book-writing monster who spews out thousands of pages of bloody garbage pandering to the basest tastes of the lowest denizens of cheap horror houses。 This reputation is wrong, and if you need evidence, look no further than Everything’s Eventual。 This collection of short stories ably demonstrates not only King’s skill as a writer and storyteller, but also his diversity。 Some of these stories are humorous, some suspenseful, some Stephen King’s reputation makes him out to be some sort of monster, a book-writing monster who spews out thousands of pages of bloody garbage pandering to the basest tastes of the lowest denizens of cheap horror houses。 This reputation is wrong, and if you need evidence, look no further than Everything’s Eventual。 This collection of short stories ably demonstrates not only King’s skill as a writer and storyteller, but also his diversity。 Some of these stories are humorous, some suspenseful, some introspective, and some even (dare I say it?) sweet。 Yes, there are moments of violence, and one or two certified bloodbaths, but only a couple (especially “The Road Virus Heads North”) that are truly the nightmarish。 And—surprise!—many of these stories have happy endings!
