🎧 More like 3。5 stars from me。 While this book gives very helpful advice for brand new doggy parents, I didn’t find it so useful for my current situation。 What claims to be a “revolution” seems more like common sense advice。 Useful for those who don’t yet own a dog and are interested in getting one, but it’s no be-all end-all。

His stance that never uses an electric collar and always positive association really shows all dog persons are the best!

Excellent book for anyone knew to owning a dog or training a puppy。 Great tips for every step from choosing a dog to traveling with them。 Only complaint I’d have is more coverage for owning a giant breed。 There are great tips and nutritional information for average and small breeds but next to nothing was offered for extra large breeds and their special needs。

A solid training guide。 I would not necessarily label this to be a "revolutionary" book。 To me, it was simply a solid introduction to dog training。 I took bits and pieces of advice from this book but a lot of effective training material can be found across the web so I don't believe this book to be truly necessary。 A solid training guide。 I would not necessarily label this to be a "revolutionary" book。 To me, it was simply a solid introduction to dog training。 I took bits and pieces of advice from this book but a lot of effective training material can be found across the web so I don't believe this book to be truly necessary。 。。。more

Maybe 3。5。I love Zac’s approach to dog training (and the subtle shade at Cesar, et al。 throughout haha), which is grounded in science, with many references to studies and trained experts。 More instructional than Cesar’s book but definitely less compelling than that one or the monks’ puppy book。 He gives long and (very) detailed explanations for training and for solutions to behavioral issues。 I originally got it because, while I really like his videos, I find I learn better when I read things an Maybe 3。5。I love Zac’s approach to dog training (and the subtle shade at Cesar, et al。 throughout haha), which is grounded in science, with many references to studies and trained experts。 More instructional than Cesar’s book but definitely less compelling than that one or the monks’ puppy book。 He gives long and (very) detailed explanations for training and for solutions to behavioral issues。 I originally got it because, while I really like his videos, I find I learn better when I read things and know they ‘why’, rather than only watch a video。 Unfortunately, the instruction piece just did not do it for me - I think because it seems to be geared more toward older dogs rather than puppies, which is what I was looking for。 He definitely does address puppies but I think unconsciously I was more so looking for a written version of his Inertia series。 That said, this book is an excellent resource for new dog parents, and is geared toward them。 It has great guidance on choosing a vet, introducing a dog to a new home, and dog training fundamentals。 In the training sections he indicates the areas that he has a video for。 I got this from the library but I could see it being a worthwhile buy。 I’m going to check out his second book, might have more puppy-specific info。 。。。more

I am a newbie but "leave it +look at me" does make dog mom life much easier。 Side note, it also makes regular mom life easier。 I am a newbie but "leave it +look at me" does make dog mom life much easier。 Side note, it also makes regular mom life easier。 。。。more

Very helpful and informative!

I really liked this book, it is short, to the point, and easy to read。 I did not get the information that I was looking for, in terms of dog training, so this tells me that this book is a beginner's guide with tips on dog training。 Also, I already have a dog, and this book emphasizes on the preparations for bringing a puppy/dog to your household。 This made a good part of the book repetition to me, as I already had this information。 In terms of training revolution, I understand that this may be a I really liked this book, it is short, to the point, and easy to read。 I did not get the information that I was looking for, in terms of dog training, so this tells me that this book is a beginner's guide with tips on dog training。 Also, I already have a dog, and this book emphasizes on the preparations for bringing a puppy/dog to your household。 This made a good part of the book repetition to me, as I already had this information。 In terms of training revolution, I understand that this may be an issue with trainers or "trainers" in this unregulated field, but it is more of a new perspective: Discipline, play, and encouragement instead of discipline and punishment。 A good read nonetheless, as it opened my eyes to an unregulated industry。 。。。more

Definitely what I needed!I’m getting a puppy in a month and wanted to get started on my research。 This book has been so informative, I’m so much more confident about bringing in the new pup to my house。 This book has made me more excited than ever to have a dog around!

This book is perfect for raising a new (or old) dog。 It is very complete and super useful。 I certainly learned a lot from it, and will keep consulting it as I go。 Definitely recommend it!

Great book, clear directions and common sense information。 Now have a great puppy。

This is a nice combination of pet-parenting philosophy and actual instructions for training。 Bottom line: dogs are clever, dogs want to be loved, be kind to them in your training and everything will turn out better for both you and your dog in the long run。 This is not a huge leap from modern parenting books and has both intuitiveness and research findings on its side。 I look forward to implementing George's techniques on our next dog, and in the meantime will run tests using the children! The best training approach Before getting a dog I did my research deeply and luckily found this book。 Zak George helped me to deeply understand the dog’s nature, which resulted in the awareness in communication with my new pet。 I strongly recommend this book to anyone, who haven’t read it yet!

Jessica

This book was definitely not as good as his videos, but a good general overview and place to start。 I like his videos on YouTube and we have found them generally helpful。

Easy read—great information This is a well organized trove of important information for the new dog owner。 It opened my eyes on several important points。

This covers everything you need to know, it has been very useful through Peppers puppyhood especially Bc it’s such a positive approach

This book provides a good introduction and basic guide to raising and training a dog。 It is thorough and covers a wide variety of topics in an organized way。 I enjoyed reading and learning about Zak’s positive reinforcement-based approach to training and appreciated the scientific evidence he provided to support this method。 I think this book will serve as a great resource to refer back to as needed。

As a first-time dog parent, I found Zak George on YouTube first。 I would give 5 stars to Zak George's training methods, YouTube videos, etc。, and 4 stars for the book itself。 It doesn't add a huge amount beyond the videos, but it is helpful to have it all in an easy-to-reference book format。 I really liked the advice in this book and the step-by-step training information。 I appreciated the explanations of how and why to use positive training。 The ideas are really clear and I also understand why As a first-time dog parent, I found Zak George on YouTube first。 I would give 5 stars to Zak George's training methods, YouTube videos, etc。, and 4 stars for the book itself。 It doesn't add a huge amount beyond the videos, but it is helpful to have it all in an easy-to-reference book format。 I really liked the advice in this book and the step-by-step training information。 I appreciated the explanations of how and why to use positive training。 The ideas are really clear and I also understand why the "old ways" of dominance-based training and negative training don't work as well and are somewhat misguided。 It is a pretty easy read centered around a very positive approach to raising a dog。 。。。more

I really like Zak’s approach to do training。 It has given me the confidence to train my new puppy。 While having the book in hand can sometimes be nice, I have found the most benefit from his YouTube videos。 I gave it 5 stars for the content, but do prefer his presentations in the videos to this book version。

Our family recently welcomed a new puppy into our lives。 Zak George's (and Dina Roth Port's) clear and engaging writing helped us understand not only how to train, but the why behind it。 Bonus: contains links to George's YouTube videos that illustrate the various techniques。 Our family recently welcomed a new puppy into our lives。 Zak George's (and Dina Roth Port's) clear and engaging writing helped us understand not only how to train, but the why behind it。 Bonus: contains links to George's YouTube videos that illustrate the various techniques。 。。。more

I would say this is a helpful guide for training a pup for a first timer but I will admit I was hoping for a bit more depth of understanding and more practical tips - he did provide some tips that I gleaned from it but overall I would give it a 3 star review just because I think it doesn’t quite live up to the hype it’s been given - that being said I love his approach much more than the old school way of dominance
