Summary

Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever。 Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived。 To see how things would be if you had made other choices 。 。 。 Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?”

A dazzling novel about all the choices that go into a life well lived, from the internationally bestselling author of Reasons to Stay Alive and How To Stop Time

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality。 One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life。 While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?

In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig’s enchanting new novel, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision。 Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through the Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place。

2。5 stars rounded upit's not that i hate this book, it's just that i was in a terrible mental state when i decided to read this。 i also had a hard time to finish the book, but anyways i went thru it and there's no going back。 maybe if i re-read it again one day when im feeling better i would give it like a 4 stars, but for now i think 2。5 stars a good one。 2。5 stars rounded upit's not that i hate this book, it's just that i was in a terrible mental state when i decided to read this。 i also had a hard time to finish the book, but anyways i went thru it and there's no going back。 maybe if i re-read it again one day when im feeling better i would give it like a 4 stars, but for now i think 2。5 stars a good one。 。。。more

Easy 5 stars from me。 This is a brilliant book! I really enjoyed it。 Nora Seed is just wonderful and this is a book that just helps you to see things differently。 Yes, it made me cry but these were tears with potential。

This was an excellent book。 A lovely story of someone struggling with life and the choices and regrets they have and how the midnight library helps her find her way to live her best life。

This was a great read-similarly reminiscent of The Shack- but with a few more sci fi elements。 Overall a great storyline and message。 I would have given 5 stars, but felt the last few chapters weren’t necessary。

Magical and real and honest。 The kind of book you just can’t put down。 Any attempt I could make to write this review would not be enough to do this justice。 I loved this。 Recommend to everyone。

I found the premise of this book so interesting, and had high hopes for it。 But I have to agree with some of the other reviewers here that the execution was less than ideal。 I couldn’t get into the structure of the book - each chapter only being a few pages annoyed me, there was no reason to break each “life” into such small fragments。 I also wish that each life was explored in more detail, and we learned more about the characters。 Overall the book felt a bit rushed to me, like you’re actually s I found the premise of this book so interesting, and had high hopes for it。 But I have to agree with some of the other reviewers here that the execution was less than ideal。 I couldn’t get into the structure of the book - each chapter only being a few pages annoyed me, there was no reason to break each “life” into such small fragments。 I also wish that each life was explored in more detail, and we learned more about the characters。 Overall the book felt a bit rushed to me, like you’re actually supposed to read it in one minute while time stands still。 。。。more

Ever wonder what might have been? This delightful thought experiment traverses this question with Nora Seed in a Wonderful Life amped up variable version。 Sprinkled with philosophical insights, this book frames the question “Are you living the best life? Ever slow dance with regret? This is a book you will want to read。

Actually ended up enjoying this story quite a lot。 Even with the somewhat predictability, this book struck a chord with me。 Philosophical musings about the nature of the universe and the meaning life interspersed with well timed bits of humor。 One my favorite quotes 。。。 " in one life she only ate toast。" 😅 Actually ended up enjoying this story quite a lot。 Even with the somewhat predictability, this book struck a chord with me。 Philosophical musings about the nature of the universe and the meaning life interspersed with well timed bits of humor。 One my favorite quotes 。。。 " in one life she only ate toast。" 😅 。。。more

4。70How rare it is to read the blurb of a book and think wow ok this is such a good idea, and then reading it only to discover it was indeed well executed ! This is beautiful story, almost like a parabole, it isn’t perfect but it’s deeply touching。

Solid premise, lacking execution。 Imagine having the chance to live out every possibility and sort out any regrets you might have - a pandora's box or a dream come true, glass half-empty or glass half-full。 That's the solid premise of 'The Midnight Library' which tugs enough emotional baggage in you that you WILL give this book a chance。 And I suggest you do。 Nora's story is more of an afterthought to the realizations and internal pondering this book inspired within me and my friends。 It made us Solid premise, lacking execution。 Imagine having the chance to live out every possibility and sort out any regrets you might have - a pandora's box or a dream come true, glass half-empty or glass half-full。 That's the solid premise of 'The Midnight Library' which tugs enough emotional baggage in you that you WILL give this book a chance。 And I suggest you do。 Nora's story is more of an afterthought to the realizations and internal pondering this book inspired within me and my friends。 It made us think how our lives would've been like if we had chosen to pursue a different career, said "Yes" to a date, among other what if's we've kept in the back of our minds all these years。 Ultimately, this book helps make peace of what has happened, helps you rethink your short sightedness and inspires you to live out your full potential no matter which alternate reality you keep daydreaming about。 All those possibilities, no matter how different they are from your current life, is a part of you that you can always work on becoming。 。。。more

One of the most thought provoking books I've ever read。 I really enjoyed it。 There was some language and adult concepts。 Just imagine a few rowdy English friends at a pub。 One of the most thought provoking books I've ever read。 I really enjoyed it。 There was some language and adult concepts。 Just imagine a few rowdy English friends at a pub。 。。。more

This was a relatively quick read and enjoyable。 Would recommend for some light reading (that gets into parallel lives and light philosophy)。

I loved this book and knew I was going to within the first few chapters。 The writing is exquisite and from the first sentence I simply couldn't put the book down。 I feel a genuine tie to the character of Nora and the desperation she felt for an escape from emptiness, error, abandonment, loneliness, lack of direction。 I can see how other readers with different experiences may not find common ground between themselves and Nora, and therefore see why this character has faced criticism by some revie I loved this book and knew I was going to within the first few chapters。 The writing is exquisite and from the first sentence I simply couldn't put the book down。 I feel a genuine tie to the character of Nora and the desperation she felt for an escape from emptiness, error, abandonment, loneliness, lack of direction。 I can see how other readers with different experiences may not find common ground between themselves and Nora, and therefore see why this character has faced criticism by some reviewers for her actions。 However, I believe this to be a testament to the value of this book。 This may be a work of fiction, but intertwined in the storyline, Matt Haig has voiced the real, lived experiences of many operating beneath the daily burden of depression and anxiety。 Surely we all experience mental health differently and can benefit from opening our eyes to those discrepancies and showing empathy towards others' realities。 。。。more

What if?What if you could undo any regret, any life occurrence of your past and try on a different life? How would it be different? What would it look like?Enter “The Midnight Library” where lead character Nora experiences just that。 Exasperated with her current life, Nora finds herself in a parallel universe where she gets to uncover the story behind all of her “what ifs”。 This read was very different from anything I had ever read before, and I think the author did an incredible job at keeping What if?What if you could undo any regret, any life occurrence of your past and try on a different life? Enjoyable。 Well written。 Nowadays, especially amongst covid, the basic message reminding us of the difference between life and living is inspiring。

Eu não sei como descrever esse livro。。。mas ele me tocou profundamente。 Vou demorar um tempo até superar。 Não tenho palavras pra descrever, mas sei que sempre vou lembrar: “the only way to learn is to live”。 Um dos melhores livros que eu li na vida。 Como vou superar?????

Some books come to you exactly when you need them to。 I’m not sure this book would have been so important to me if it were not February 2021 and I were not trying to decide which multiverse to live and love in。
