I loved this book from beginning to end even though it was sad。 Sad and magical。 The author nailed the nostalgia， mystery， magic， and fear that makes up childhood。 The boy reminded me so much of my childhood with his sad birthday party and how adults think they can just replace a beloved pet that I literally cried through the first two chapters。 I just wanted to give him a hug and tell him it would be okay。

I absolutely adore the way that Neil Gaiman makes magic fact。 There is no explanation， no fanfare， no fantasy: in his books the magic simply is， and his story telling is so smooth that you take it in stride and accept it at face value。 I LOVED this book。 I truly wish I could read it again for the first time。

3。5 stars。 This book is written very well， it’s a great story！ My rating is based on my overall enjoyment of the book， and I don’t believe this kind of story is something I would read again。 It was a very quick read and entertaining in the meanwhile :）

"Te voy a decir algo muy importante: por dentro， los adultos tampoco parecen adultos。 Por fuera parecen grandes y desconsiderados y siempre parece que saben lo que hacen。 Por dentro， siguen siendo exactamente igual que han sido siempre。 Como cuando tenían tu edad。 La verdad es que los adultos no existen"。 Terminé esta novela y me ha parecido una de las novelas más bonitas que he leído y quería escribir un poco sobre ella。La novela inicia con nuestro protagonista （no se especifica su nombre）， yen "Te voy a decir algo muy importante: por dentro， los adultos tampoco parecen adultos。 Por fuera parecen grandes y desconsiderados y siempre parece que saben lo que hacen。 Por dentro， siguen siendo exactamente igual que han sido siempre。 Como cuando tenían tu edad。 La verdad es que los adultos no existen"。 Terminé esta novela y me ha parecido una de las novelas más bonitas que he leído y quería escribir un poco sobre ella。La novela inicia con nuestro protagonista （no se especifica su nombre）， yendo al funeral de su padre。 Con la nostalgia de ver el lugar donde creció va a recorrer su pueblo natal， llegando a una granja con la que sabe que está relacionado， pero solo recuerda que ahí vivía su amiga de la infancia， Lettie Hempstock。Entra a la granja y aquí comienza la verdadera historia。Él era un niño de 7 años muy solitario， los otros niños en el colegio lo molestaban， y él se refugiaba en sus libros para compensar su falta de amigos。 Sus padres， por falta de dinero ponen en alquiler su habitación y se hospedan muchos inquilinos。 Uno de ellos， un minero， un día roba el carro de su padre y se suicida al final del camino。 A partir de este suceso traumático， el protagonista conoce a las Hempstock， una anciana， una mujer que ronda los 40 y una niña de 11 años que siempre parecen saber más de lo que dicen。 El protagonista rápidamente se vuelve amigo de Lettie， y juntos viven una gran aventura que te hará regresar a tu infancia， y te recordarán con mucha nostalgia lo mágico que era ser un niño。Esto no quiere decir que sea un libro para niños， pero sí es un libro que nos habla sobre ser niños。 Nos enseña la magia que había detrás de nuestros juegos， y sobre como subestimamos el entendimiento del mundo de los pequeños。 El libro está lleno de personajes carismáticos， como Lettie Hempstock que nos recuerda a esos niños siempre seguros de sí mismos que， sin arrogancia， nos mostraban lo siguiente que jugaríamos y con los que nos sentíamos protegidos y resueltos cuando ellos estaban cerca。El final es muy bello， y es de esos libros donde el final es el que tiene que ser， sin adornos。 Si quieren una novela que los ponga nostálgicos， emocionados， y que los deje pensando， esta es una excelente opción。Por cierto， ganó el premio Locus a mejor novela de fantasía en 2014。 。。。more

This book is the perfect mix of childhood remembrance， growing up， and the hazy， blurry cloud that mixes memory with fantasy。 Fear， fun， sadness， hope。 What is real and what is not？ Everything I read about this book was true。 It is indeed the book to read when you have forgotten what it is to be a child。
