Well this was adorable! Lots of interesting facts about owls (I did not know that one ear was higher than the other!) AND it was interactive as well。 I can't wait to get this for my school library! Fun narrative nonfiction sharing facts about owls。 Great read aloud paired with an expository text and real photographs of owls。

My son and I love owls and love learning about them, so this seemed like a fun book for both of us (and it was!)。 Professor Olaf Owl leads one of many classes on how to be an owl, using a two-page spread to investigate all the topics (things like camouflage, seeing in the dark, and move stealthily)。 By the end of the book, even humans are named "Honorary members of Team Owl" if they complete all the classes。 Would be a great book for an owl storytime or DiscoveryTime if I ever get to do those ag My son and I love owls and love learning about them, so this seemed like a fun book for both of us (and it was!)。 Professor Olaf Owl leads one of many classes on how to be an owl, using a two-page spread to investigate all the topics (things like camouflage, seeing in the dark, and move stealthily)。 By the end of the book, even humans are named "Honorary members of Team Owl" if they complete all the classes。 Would be a great book for an owl storytime or DiscoveryTime if I ever get to do those again, though might have to shorten it a bit。 Recommended for ages 5-9, 4 stars。 。。。more

Oh my! I so very much enjoyed this book。 I know my great-grand-child who is now reading will totally enjoy it。 It is funny。 It is cute。 It is simply packed with owl facts。 And it also has comparisons between owls in general and people。 What they eat。 How their eyes and ours are made different。 Delightfully entertaining and educational。I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review。 Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given。

Perhaps this isn't a brand new idea, but learning about things from a non-fiction book that's creative and pretends readers are going to "Owl School" will be inviting to young readers who are studying owls, maybe even all kinds of birds! I find myself imagining students writing about "Crow" or "Chickadee" school! Jane Porter has given Professor Olaf Owl the teacher's voice who manages seventeen different "classes" about the ways of being an owl。 There is a beginning 'checklist' of what owls much be able to do, like "move super-stealthily" and "see in the dark"。 The lessons show owls aren't all the same, however, so exceptions are included。 For example, on the day about the ability to "disappear", different species of owls display varied appearances。 The text is humorous and there's a message at the back that gives everyone the ability to join, but if not, Professor Olaf makes those who have gone through all the lessons an honorary member of "Team Owl"。 An index can be found at the back。 Maddie Frost's cartoon-like illustrations are inviting, and show well the various traits of owls! Thanks to Candlewick Press for this copy! 。。。more

Laugh out loud book filled with fascinating facts about owls。 If you read it carefully, you just may become an honorary owl。 Even if you have no feathers, can't see in the dark, short toe nails and don't swallow your food whole。 Laugh out loud book filled with fascinating facts about owls。 If you read it carefully, you just may become an honorary owl。 Even if you have no feathers, can't see in the dark, short toe nails and don't swallow your food whole。 。。。more

Thank you, Edelweiss, for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review。This is an information book disguised as a picture book, and I think kids are going to love it! It has the readability of a picture book, with engagement opportunities on each page, yet also provides a ton of facts about owls。 I wish there were more books like this out there。 I look forward to reading this to my kids at the library and I intend to recommend it to parents and educators。
