When you hear “novelization to Resident Evil” this is definitely what would come to mind。 In all of it’s so very 90s cheesy thriller goodness。

Huge fan of the games and I really loved this book。 I could picture every room perfectly in my mind。 All described perfectly。 Can’t wait to read the rest of the series

First of all let me just say that I'm a big fan of the games。The book is nice, it was interesting revisiting the mansion this way, and it started nicely and with what felt to be a bit more character development, but it quickly goes in to a bit of "game walkthough" at some point。 I think this is a nice introduction to people who haven't played the game, to those who've played there isn't nothing new here but it's still a nice read。 First of all let me just say that I'm a big fan of the games。The book is nice, it was interesting revisiting the mansion this way, and it started nicely and with what felt to be a bit more character development, but it quickly goes in to a bit of "game walkthough" at some point。 I think this is a nice introduction to people who haven't played the game, to those who've played there isn't nothing new here but it's still a nice read。 。。。more

7 ways this book ticked me off1。 Grinning - Everyone grinned after every victory or find。 What's wrong with these people? That old can't call them zombies rose up from the dead。 (Badum tush)。7。 The monsters - Each 'boss' monster was quickly solved and forgettable。 *Sad face*Despite all my complaints here, this is an easy, quick read and I do think Resident evil fans will love it, but taking that out, it doesn't hold up in its own right。 。。。more

An excellent trip down memory lane。 The Umbrella Conspiracy really brings the RE story to life and adds new detail to our intrepid S。T。A。R。S。 This isn't nearly as terrifying as the game experience was that very first time I played it as a preteen loser in a dark room with my best friend。 But。 Perry has done an excellent job of capturing the feel of the gameplay。It's the many little details that she included that brought the memories back, like cautiously watching the writhing bodies of the recen An excellent trip down memory lane。 The Umbrella Conspiracy really brings the RE story to life and adds new detail to our intrepid S。T。A。R。S。 This isn't nearly as terrifying as the game experience was that very first time I played it as a preteen loser in a dark room with my best friend。 But。 Perry has done an excellent job of capturing the feel of the gameplay。It's the many little details that she included that brought the memories back, like cautiously watching the writhing bodies of the recently slain as you try to maneuver to the next room。 I had so much fun reading this。 I was only jealous that the team were much more efficient than I was and didn't walk into any of the big monster scenarios without enough ammunition causing them to die and respawn fifty thousand times slightly tweaking their movements each cycle until they fluked a victory。 。。。more

4 stars ⭐️Pretty good for being a novel based on a game。 I loved the cute Valenfield (Chris and Jill) moment in this book。 I loved the funny interaction between Chris and Rebecca in the beginning。 The writing was great and the storyline was intriguing (even though it wasen’t like the game at some part of it)。 I just love these games so much, and I was actually suprised that I enjoyed this book。 I definitely want to continue on with this series!

Man, LitRPG has spoiled me。 I wanted to see how a novelisation of a videogame could be done, and I have to admit that I found this a bit of a chore to get through。 While searching for emblems and sigils to unlock doors in a survival horror game is fine, when you take out that personal involvement in the story by being IN that world, it just becomes tedious。 This is not a slight to the author at all, just an observation of the trappings of writing a faithful video game novelisation。It also felt l Man, LitRPG has spoiled me。 I wanted to see how a novelisation of a videogame could be done, and I have to admit that I found this a bit of a chore to get through。 While searching for emblems and sigils to unlock doors in a survival horror game is fine, when you take out that personal involvement in the story by being IN that world, it just becomes tedious。 This is not a slight to the author at all, just an observation of the trappings of writing a faithful video game novelisation。It also felt like the characters were playing on Easy mode。 In the Resident Evil games, you scrounge for ammunition。 You count every bullet。 But in this book, the characters find 'clips of ammo' all over the shop and never once have to even think about conserving ammo。Every encounter kind of went the same way - monster shows up, character is shocked, character takes down enemy with no issues。 I never once felt like the characters were in danger, and in a book where there's a literal zombie shark, a snake the size of a bus, and a meat-eating plant, there should have been stakes。There weren't。 I love the Resident Evil universe for all of the lore that goes into the virus(es), parasites and other pathogens that turn regular people and animals into hulking monstrosities, but this book had none of that。 It was a stroll through a haunted house where all of the monsters were toothless and wearing boxing gloves。 。。。more

I remember reading this years ago, delighting in how the writer entwined the two storylines。Found it recently while having a clearout and decided to give it another go。 Everything I loved about it the first time round was fresh in my mind again。

Junk food read, mildly entertaining。 Just glad they kept the Jill sandwich。 3。5/5

。。。more

Format: PaperbackAcquired from: ThriftBooksIt's so excruciatingly faithful to the source material that it's almost like playing the game without a Play Station。 The book is a solidly written dose of nostalgia that I always return to every couple of years。 I wouldn't necessarily recommend it if you aren't a fan of the series, but I do think it would be a good "starter horror novel" if you have a tween that likes zombies and monsters but you don't quite want to let them loose on grittier stuff yet Format: PaperbackAcquired from: ThriftBooksIt's so excruciatingly faithful to the source material that it's almost like playing the game without a Play Station。 The book is a solidly written dose of nostalgia that I always return to every couple of years。 I wouldn't necessarily recommend it if you aren't a fan of the series, but I do think it would be a good "starter horror novel" if you have a tween that likes zombies and monsters but you don't quite want to let them loose on grittier stuff yet。 Between these books and the X-Files novelizations I discovered I actually could be a voracious reader。 It gave me a feeling of normalcy and belonging to my peer group to find something I could inhale like that, and made me feel like maybe I wasn't as dumb as I thought。 I knew I enjoyed horror stories prior, but I thought I was only smart enough to read cliff notes or condensed versions, and it was like "whoa, I actually read an entire book that was more advanced than middle grade, and actually enjoyed it。 I wonder what else is out there。"Also, almost forgot to add, the Resident Evil series were some of the first zombie novels published--before Robert Kirkman, David Wellington, Max Brooks, and even the author stable of Permuted Press。 For a couple years there, even if you weren't a fan of Resident Evil fan, if you wanted some good ol' Romero action, this is where you went。 I feel it's a (likely misogynistic-motivated) oversight that Perry's contribution to the zombie genre is largely ignored。 。。。more

First and foremost。 I took a break for over 2 months and finished the last 200 pages in two days。 So if you’re wondering why it took me so long to finish quite a short book, there you go。The enjoyment factor here hangs mostly on the reader having some familiarity with the source material。 Otherwise a lot of the things happening will come off as incredibly corny and some dialogue will seem really bizarre (looking at you Jill Sandwitch)。 As a massive RE fan and lover of schlocky horror however, I First and foremost。 I took a break for over 2 months and finished the last 200 pages in two days。 So if you’re wondering why it took me so long to finish quite a short book, there you go。The enjoyment factor here hangs mostly on the reader having some familiarity with the source material。 Otherwise a lot of the things happening will come off as incredibly corny and some dialogue will seem really bizarre (looking at you Jill Sandwitch)。 As a massive RE fan and lover of schlocky horror however, I had a great time exploring the mansion in a new medium。 This stomps the inferior movie adaptation and works as a nice little companion piece to the original game。 It fleshes out what happens in the ps1 classic perfectly and I have a hard time deciding if I enjoy this or the remakes version of the events more。 Time will tell I guess。 。。。more

I’m a massive fan of the resident evil games and story lines but put reading the novelisation off for almost 10 years for some reason!!I basically didn’t want the author to ruin the legacy for me, but I was wrong and after taking this out from the back of my bookshelf I was very happy and read it in 2 sittings, very loyal to the game and easy to read, it also gives the characters slightly more depth which I think will be explored more going forward。I do intend to read all the books in the series I’m a massive fan of the resident evil games and story lines but put reading the novelisation off for almost 10 years for some reason!!I basically didn’t want the author to ruin the legacy for me, but I was wrong and after taking this out from the back of my bookshelf I was very happy and read it in 2 sittings, very loyal to the game and easy to read, it also gives the characters slightly more depth which I think will be explored more going forward。I do intend to read all the books in the series and I’mpretty sure I’ll enjoy the ones based on games but I’m interested to see how I enjoy the original stories。 。。。more
