Holden Caulfield is a seventeen- year-old dropout who has just been kicked out of his fourth school。 Navigating his way through the challenges of growing up, Holden dissects the 'phony' aspects of society, and the 'phonies' themselves: the headmaster whose affability depends on the wealth of the parents, his roommate who scores with girls using sickly-sweet affection。

This book was so “phony” in a way I definitely wasn’t expecting。 I didn’t know the actual plot before reading it, but I knew that Holden was insufferable and the book was fake deep just from general pop culture。 After reading the book, I now know that there is no plot。 Salinger definitely just thought up Holden (probably a part of himself he fixates on) and wrote the book just based on Holden and whatever the first idea was to pop into his head on how to continue the story。I liked that there rea This book was so “phony” in a way I definitely wasn’t expecting。 I didn’t know the actual plot before reading it, but I knew that Holden was insufferable and the book was fake deep just from general pop culture。 After reading the book, I now know that there is no plot。 Salinger definitely just thought up Holden (probably a part of himself he fixates on) and wrote the book just based on Holden and whatever the first idea was to pop into his head on how to continue the story。I liked that there really was no fake deepness to this, its clear that Holden is a weirdo and there’s no like philosophical paragraphs that are meant to be insightful。 In that way it wasn’t fake deep, because it wasn’t deep at all。 At times it was so boring, but I didn’t actively hate it。 Definitely took nothing away from this book and didn’t enjoy the plot at all, but there was so weirdly nice things about it, like Holden constantly saying “It kills me” or “phony” or calling people old ______。 Boring but not worth being considered anything in my opinion。 。。。more

I liked the authors writing style, while I did not like the story。 I did not like it for its explicit profanity and the plot being centered around sex。 I also objected to the view of the narrator which I found to be somewhat pessimistic, I believe in seeing the joy in all of the creation and yet also being realistic at the same time。

I would love to read a grown up version of Holden。 I really do。 For the first part of the book I was fed up of cliches (Holden being a teenager with no real problems and just hating everybody's guts) but as I kept reading, I kind of understood。 He is struggling。 Of course he is an angsty teenager with a lot to learn。 But he is having a rough time coming to that conclusion。 He is growing up and he can't do anything about it。 If I have to talk to Holden I think I would've said the exact same thing I would love to read a grown up version of Holden。 I really do。 For the first part of the book I was fed up of cliches (Holden being a teenager with no real problems and just hating everybody's guts) but as I kept reading, I kind of understood。 He is struggling。 Of course he is an angsty teenager with a lot to learn。 But he is having a rough time coming to that conclusion。 He is growing up and he can't do anything about it。 If I have to talk to Holden I think I would've said the exact same thing old Mr。 Antolini said to him (besides that weirdo scene whit the head patting and all that I didn't understand tbh)。 I think now I'm not a teen anymore I like it more like that。 I also was afraid of growing up but it is best from here in a way。 And I would love Holden to experience that feel of peace for once。 I started hating Holden but I kind of get him。 Besides, when you are young you kind of hate everybody's guts。 。。。more

Let’s just say it didn’t kill me。 I know the book was written more than 70 years ago, but in the meantime I think we’ve seen enough of this white male adolescent depressed incel literature。 Didn’t age that well, I guess。 The book’s a pageturner, which is partly because of its entertaining quality and partly because Salinger uses a pretty small vocabulary。 I don’t regret reading it, that’s all
ReidsReads,
From what I understand this book is famous because it so accurately depicts what it's like to listen to an angsty teen complain for a few hours。 The only problem is that it's as insufferable to read about as it is to listen to in real life。 From what I understand this book is famous because it so accurately depicts what it's like to listen to an angsty teen complain for a few hours。 The only problem is that it's as insufferable to read about as it is to listen to in real life。 。。。more

I truly enjoyed this book。 I recently read this and I’m dying for a re-read。 It’s definitely gonna be one of my comfort reads。 I think the reason I liked it more it’s because I didn’t read it for school。 I know most people read it for school but I did not。 I really feel like Holden understood me。 The book has a lot of insight into the world rather than a plot。 If this book was written in today’s world it be a pretty big problem as it has a lot of sexism and slut shaming。
