Summary

Central figures in "The Matter of Britain," King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table still inspire many books and films today。 Drawing on the legends of Camelot from French and English sources, Sir Thomas Malory compiled the drama of illicit love, the magic of sorcery, and the quest for the Holy Grail into a sordid and chivalrous tale that's been recounted for centuries。 This beautiful leather-bound volume, with gilded edges and a ribbon bookmark so you never lose your place, will be a treasured edition of classic Arthurian folklore in any home library。

My least favorite of the King Arthur stories。 Arthur is a weak king who could have easily avoided everything if he had listened to his advisors in the first place

I believe this edition is abridged。 Disappointing。

I could not finish this, this is my first DNF ever。 I am still counting it as read since I did read basically half the book and listened to over a day on the audiobook。 The same thing just kept happening over and over again。 There would be a knight needing to save a damsel in distress, the only difference in the chapters would be a different name for the characters。 I also now know why the show is called 'Merlin' and not King Arthur as I feel like the wizard is the main character。 I know this bo I could not finish this, this is my first DNF ever。 I am still counting it as read since I did read basically half the book and listened to over a day on the audiobook。 The same thing just kept happening over and over again。 There would be a knight needing to save a damsel in distress, the only difference in the chapters would be a different name for the characters。 I also now know why the show is called 'Merlin' and not King Arthur as I feel like the wizard is the main character。 I know this book is called King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table but it should be called The Knights of the Round Table as they are what this story is really about。 。。。more

Wonderful story, enjoyed it and have reread it。

3 stars。An interesting book for sure but as it's so long and quite repetitive it's not the most enjoyable read and I struggled to get through it。 Doesn't quite compare to BBC Merlin I'm afraid。 3 stars。An interesting book for sure but as it's so long and quite repetitive it's not the most enjoyable read and I struggled to get through it。 Doesn't quite compare to BBC Merlin I'm afraid。 。。。more

Super elaborate (think heavy layer of Norman French culture plastered on top of barely recognizable Welsh mythology) but a fascinating classic nonetheless and totally worth it。

slow, but interesting

I really enjoyed T H White's Once and Future King, but Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur did not hold my interest at all。 Not at all。 The tales are really repetitive--too much smiteing, too many tales of forgotten/unknown identity (Really, stop playing games, just tell them your name)。 Too many damsels needing to be avenged。 Too many "he killed my brother" stories。 Malory's writing does not help the situation。 He needs some lessons from Hemingway。。。。 Yuck。 I really enjoyed T H White's Once and Future King, but Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur did not hold my interest at all。 Not at all。 The tales are really repetitive--too much smiteing, too many tales of forgotten/unknown identity (Really, stop playing games, just tell them your name)。 Too many damsels needing to be avenged。 Too many "he killed my brother" stories。 Malory's writing does not help the situation。 He needs some lessons from Hemingway。。。。 Yuck。 。。。more

Two words: dry and repetitive。 Review to come。

These are just good stories。 Read them for the morality tales, or for the straight forward plotting。 You can't go wrong either way。 These are just good stories。 Read them for the morality tales, or for the straight forward plotting。 You can't go wrong either way。 。。。more

I don't think I would have enjoyed this nearly as much if I'd read a version with modernised spelling。 I expected a very refined book, but this was actually very rough and earthy and mad。 My only complaints are that it needed more wizards, and fewer jousts。 I don't think I would have enjoyed this nearly as much if I'd read a version with modernised spelling。 I expected a very refined book, but this was actually very rough and earthy and mad。 My only complaints are that it needed more wizards, and fewer jousts。 。。。more

Finally got to read the source material for much of the Arthurian myth。 Not gonna lie, my favorite was sir Tristam and Isolde。
