Summary

Now that the evil Count has been killed and dragged to Hell by the demon lords of the Godhand, Guts, the Black Swordsman, hooks up with his former benefactor, the mercenary Gambino。 But it’s a deadly reunion, one that nearly takes Guts’ life。 The following years see Guts wandering from battlefield to battlefield, where his awesome skills as a slayer catch the eye of both warring parties, including the legendary Griffith, warrior leader of the Band of the Hawk, who is eager to test his combat skills against those of the Black Swordsman。 As usual, anytime that Guts is involved there will be hell to pay!

The manga just keeps on getting good from here! 。。。more

Our hero comes face to face with the enigmatic Griffith for the very first time。 Oh, if one could only warn Guts of the tragedy to come。。。

This volume is critical for introducing two characters central to the story。 Furthermore, this helps balance a story populated mainly by villains and an unknown, brooding main character who can be hard to relate to。 Guts becomes much more human and understandable in this volume。

(tw: rape (of a child), homophobic slurs) So apparently my library has this entire series in ebook format but I didn't know because they're not shelved under Kentaro Miura and can only be searched for by the series title??? Okay, but I guess this means I'll get to read the rest of it now。 Basically half of this volume is Guts cutting people in half again along with more of his traumatic backstory, and this is also where we finally meet Griffith, Casca, and the Band of the Hawk。 Since this volume (tw: rape (of a child), homophobic slurs) So apparently my library has this entire series in ebook format but I didn't know because they're not shelved under Kentaro Miura and can only be searched for by the series title??? This volume of berserk explains Guts' childhood and the origin of his trauma and it is heartbreaking。 I would have preferred if the scene was not shown (only hinted), especially because the artstyle is very detailed。 The mangaka with this volume wants us to begin to understand Guts and sympathise with the man he became。 He is an interesting MC, and i am all for learning more about him。 I will be missing Puck dearly while reading the 'Golden Age' arc。 The art is as usual supreme, and the details This volume of berserk explains Guts' childhood and the origin of his trauma and it is heartbreaking。 I would have preferred if the scene was not shown (only hinted), especially because the artstyle is very detailed。 The mangaka with this volume wants us to begin to understand Guts and sympathise with the man he became。 He is an interesting MC, and i am all for learning more about him。 I will be missing Puck dearly while reading the 'Golden Age' arc。 The art is as usual supreme, and the details will never fail to amaze me。 I am reading this story slowly on purpose, because I want to take in everything and not miss the details the mangaka put into his work。 I admire work this。 You can really tell someone has put their everything into it。 The Hawk seem to be an interesting bunch, but I know for sure I will never come to like Griffith。 I am very warry of him especially knowing how he turned out。 Over all this was an interesting volume, and I am as interested in this story as much as I began reading it。 。。。more

The story of Guts continues to unfold。 Violence and gore slows down a bit in this one, as the story develops and Guts takes one step back from being a madman with a giant sword cleaving through his enemies with a smile on his face。 Guts meets new people, tries to kill them, and surprisingly some survive and he ends up becoming becoming actually part of something。So far everything is perfectly aligned with the late 90's anime。 The story of Guts continues to unfold。 Violence and gore slows down a bit in this one, as the story develops and Guts takes one step back from being a madman with a giant sword cleaving through his enemies with a smile on his face。 Guts meets new people, tries to kill them, and surprisingly some survive and he ends up becoming becoming actually part of something。So far everything is perfectly aligned with the late 90's anime。 。。。more

5/5。 This series is so fucking dark。 My only complaint is that the panels are so busy that sometimes I need to reread a scene (which I guess isn't that bad, because the art is great)。 5/5。 This series is so fucking dark。 My only complaint is that the panels are so busy that sometimes I need to reread a scene (which I guess isn't that bad, because the art is great)。 。。。more

The start of The Golden Age Arc。 A fantasticly rich, beautiful and tragic story, with some of the most amazingly written plot I can think of。 Berserk starts out with a brooding, dark avenger, with little personality left。 What get most people hooked to the story at this point, is the gore, the violence, the "I don't give a F" attitude。 If you have gotten this far, then you should know that it will change and be explained。 You will get to know why Guts is the way he is。 The story of the struggler The start of The Golden Age Arc。 A fantasticly rich, beautiful and tragic story, with some of the most amazingly written plot I can think of。 Berserk starts out with a brooding, dark avenger, with little personality left。 What get most people hooked to the story at this point, is the gore, the violence, the "I don't give a F" attitude。 If you have gotten this far, then you should know that it will change and be explained。 You will get to know why Guts is the way he is。 The story of the struggler is explained。 The 4th volume starts "The Golden Age Arc", which is so immensely good, I find it hard to describe。 The story focuses on Guts' past。 How he came to become such a badass, what his childhood was like and how he met his first, and only, friends。 It is the story of comrades, success and failures。 It is the story about hope, despair, ambition and betrayal。 The first volumes of this tale, tell us about a anti-hero。 He doesn't want to be liked and he doesn't care about life。 He lives only for revenge and hatred, and has for years。 The Golden Age Arc gives us the reasons for this。 The death and betrayal that started Guts' life and how death has followed him from he was born。He starts of with a mentor, a father and people he trusts。 He ends up alone and untrusting。 He learns to trust, learns to be a human only to experience true despair, sorrow and hatred。I envy everyone who hasn't read Berserk yet。 The whole story is such a blast that the agony of the slow releases are almost bearable。 If this is your first time reading the Golden Arc, then you will probably be blown away。 Or not。 You will probably end up reading it multiple times, and finding joy and despair all over again。 。。。more

Poor Guts has terrible PTSD and now we know why he cant stand to be touched :(。 So dark。 Is he such a great swordsman because Gambino was a good trainer or is he just powered by sheer determination? I still am a bit confused on what gives him his preternatural sword fighting skills。 Turns out Griffith is not a girl, but he is still very hot。 There were some homoerotic vibes。 the moment where Griffith stands on Gut's sword was *eyes emoji*。 I like Casca too。 Most of this volume was just Guts boun Poor Guts has terrible PTSD and now we know why he cant stand to be touched :(。 So dark。 Is he such a great swordsman because Gambino was a good trainer or is he just powered by sheer determination? This one made me feel really bad for Guts, but you can understand why he is the way he is in the present。 Kentaro has done a great job on developing his character, Guts seems almost superhuman at times, but he has flaws that make him very human and relateable。 As always I love the artwork, it's getting better as the story moves along。 This one made me feel really bad for Guts, but you can understand why he is the way he is in the present。 Kentaro has done a great job on developing his character, Guts seems almost superhuman at times, but he has flaws that make him very human and relateable。 As always I love the artwork, it's getting better as the story moves along。 。。。more
