This is not what I expected from a manga。 This belongs to the subgenre 'seinen' which is geared for young adults/adults。 The story opened with a mysterious loner who arrived to a town and action immediately takes off。 From the get-go the setting was medieval， dark， and graphic。 The loner， who's named Guts， is on an unknown mission but from what I gather， it's to kill someone bad。 There were elements of the supernatural， horror， and dark fantasy。 The artwork and story didn't hold back and present This is not what I expected from a manga。 This belongs to the subgenre 'seinen' which is geared for young adults/adults。 The story opened with a mysterious loner who arrived to a town and action immediately takes off。 From the get-go the setting was medieval， dark， and graphic。 The loner， who's named Guts， is on an unknown mission but from what I gather， it's to kill someone bad。 There were elements of the supernatural， horror， and dark fantasy。 The artwork and story didn't hold back and presented a dark story with graphic violence。 The artwork is really good。 The details are great and captures the atmosphere of the story really well。 I liked how Guts' journey is shadowy and vague; he is a cold and skilled swordsman with a dark past that obviously the author is foreshadowing。 The story was fast-paced and I look forward to reading more volumes。 I would suggest this to adult manga fans。 Thanks！ 。。。more

Well it's been a long time coming， but I've finally begun。 Berserk is a series that has always loomed large on my horizon。 It's a very open secret that Hidetako Miyazaki drew immense inspiration from Kentaro Miura's work for Demon's Souls and the Dark Souls series， and as a huge fan of both I knew that I had to read it someday。 And wow， is that inspiration clear。 In tone， in content， even the art style itself， it has certainly satisfied this Souls fan so far。Berserk is a dark （emphasis here） fan Well it's been a long time coming， but I've finally begun。 Berserk is a series that has always loomed large on my horizon。 It's a very open secret that Hidetako Miyazaki drew immense inspiration from Kentaro Miura's work for Demon's Souls and the Dark Souls series， and as a huge fan of both I knew that I had to read it someday。 And wow， is that inspiration clear。 In tone， in content， even the art style itself， it has certainly satisfied this Souls fan so far。Berserk is a dark （emphasis here） fantasy series that follows Guts， the one-eyed Black Swordsman， as he roams the countryside in search of demons to destroy。 He bears the brand of sacrifice， which draws dark spirits toward him， he has a metal arm fitted with a crossbow， flamethrower， and god knows what else， and he wields an insanely massive sword that cuts through skeletons and armored men without prejudice。 He's a bit of an asshole， valuing only strength， as is made clear by his treatment of Puck the elf。 Guts comes across as a man with a complicated past， though we aren't yet privy to it。 This first volume was high-action， brutal violence， and hints of a larger story， so I'm interested to see how it opens up moving forward。It was much too big to be called a sword。 Massive， thick， heavy， and far too rough。 Indeed， it was like a slab of raw iron。 。。。more

My entire life I have always loved anime and have always loved fantasy series yet I have never gotten into manga until I finally decided at the age of 21 （Better late then never）。 I decided to pick this to be my very first manga since I love dark and character driven/action packed series。 I can’t explain how happy I am to be able to say it’s my first manga as well as my favorite。 I can’t talk highly enough about this I highly recommend this if you’re into Fantasy with some gory elements to it。
