I just finished this behemoth 3rd installment of the Lord of the Rings and I feel like I need a vacation! Tolkien's detailed descriptive narrative is so engrossing that you feel as if you were actually there participating in the valiant fight of "good vs evil。" There is some much happening in the book that it is important take your time to digest it all instead of just reading it for the battles that can take center stage。 I would read the Hobbit first and definitely read the trilogy in order。 I just finished this behemoth 3rd installment of the Lord of the Rings and I feel like I need a vacation! For some reason this book didn't hit so hard as the other two? Still great, but less exciting。 I don't like the way Tolkien will just describe whole battles in a few lines and be done with it。 Love Sam tho。 In my heart Sam never marries, and instead goes away with Frodo because it's obvious Frodo is the love of his life, platonic or not。Also my ADHD ass connot care about that much info dump in the appendices and so I only read the parts that caught my attention。 For some reason this book didn't hit so hard as the other two? After so many years, I am still in love with this series! Return of the King makes me cry every time I finish。 I honestly slow down towards the end of the book just to prolong the last few, precious pages! You can never be too old for another adventure!

In a time where the world has forgotten what real love, sacrifice and friendship look like, I had the most refreshing two months FINALLY escaping into this beautiful trilogy and being reminded。 Just incredible。 I don’t say this about much, but will read again, many times。

Finished reading it after quite sometime。 The language and the visual set up take a long time to process。 Rarely will you come across a book with as many characters and subplots (and dated language)。(view spoiler)[ I couldn't really understand the need for the massive anti-climax in the end and the way things ended rather eerily, but that is that, in a fantasy novel, isn't it? I would definitely say this is the best LOTR book。 There’s a good balance of epic fights & action as well as small & bittersweet moments, both of which are central to the trilogy。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I loved this whole series。 After finishing the Harry Potter series, I was completely obsessed with fantasy。 When I found this series, I knew right away that I would love it。 It completely broke my heart when Frodo left at the end。

*3。5* I really liked a lot of aspects of the book。 I thought the slower sections of this story is where it shined。 However, it is not a perfect book。 The battle scenes were very very poor, some characters were tossed by the way side, and there were some very unnecessary parts in my opinion。 All that being said, there was a lot that I loved, especially the ending。 So beautiful, so peaceful, and such a great ending for Frodo and the hobbits。

What a journey reading these books! However, it must be said that Tolkien must have HATED goodbyes。 😂

The series started off slow but this book was definitely worth it。 A lot of character development and I have grown to really love some of the characters over the course of series that I wasn't really expecting。 A great read! Tolkien truly does take his protagonists and us, the readers, "there and back again。" The post-adventure journey home is vital and intentional and in The Hobbit and even more so here, I am just so deeply moved by it。 Thank you for the closure, Tolkien。 And thank you for the appendix on hobbit history, architecture, and politics。 I love those hobbits so damn much。 Tolkien truly does take his protagonists and us, the readers, "there and back again。" The post-adventure journey home is vital and intentional and in The Hobbit and even more so here, I am just so deeply moved by it。 Thank you for the closure, Tolkien。 And thank you for the appendix on hobbit history, architecture, and politics。 I love those hobbits so damn much。 。。。more

I really wish I could read The Fellowship, The Two Towers, and Return of The King, again for the very first time。 They are kind of books that never leave you, no matter how old you get, and will never stop inspiring a sense of adventure in all of us。 These books still make me want to open my wide my door, take off my shoes and see where the road that goes ever on and on, will take me。

ROTK is obviously my favorite and I think the best。 Beginning with many battles and ending with a lovely wrap up in the lives of the Hobbits。 My favorite characters are Eowyn, Sam, and Pippin。 Eowyn for her courage and strength, Sam for his loyalty, and Pippin for his arc。 Arwen really does nothing。 Haha。 She is Aragorn’s motivation I believe but really doesn’t have much page time and really is only there to marry him。 Wow。 That’s all I can say。

Dreary and full of despair。 Truly depressing。 Still, when the sun shines, it shines out the clearer
