Mo Gawdat in Solve for Happy does a great job at approaching the topic of happiness from an analytical viewpoint。 The majority of the book provided little new content but Mo managed to frame spiritual lessons from material such as Eckhart Tolle’ Power of Now in such a compelling way that proved for an interesting read。 The principles included our identification with though, mistaking our ego for our true self, the illusion of time and knowledge as well as our illusion of control in the world。 It Mo Gawdat in Solve for Happy does a great job at approaching the topic of happiness from an analytical viewpoint。 The majority of the book provided little new content but Mo managed to frame spiritual lessons from material such as Eckhart Tolle’ Power of Now in such a compelling way that proved for an interesting read。 The principles included our identification with though, mistaking our ego for our true self, the illusion of time and knowledge as well as our illusion of control in the world。 It was fascinating to follow Gawdat’ thought process behind implementing spiritual principles in the process of dealing with his own personal loss。 3 most impactful ideas from this book:1。 Every negative emotion you will ever feel can be traced back to fear。 If you can afford brain cycles to worry about the future, then by definition, you have nothing to worry about right now。 To take a leap of fear the following questions may prove useful:-What’s the worst that can happen?-So what?-How likely is it?-Is there anything I can do to prevent this scenario?-Can I recover?-What will happen if I do nothing?-What is the best-case scenario?2。 The happiness equation states thatHappiness = Our perception of events/our life - our expectation of how life should behaveI found it interesting that when considering this equation in the greater context of ourdeath, Gawdat adjusted the formula to be:Life’s rough patches as seen in comparison to the truth of mortalityHappiness = the insignificance of events - the diminishment of expectationsWhile this viewpoint may seem nihilistic at first glance, I personally interpreted it as mindset in tough times that compared to the insignificance of our lives, the difficult event at hand has no real impact。 3。 Our happiness is up to us to decipher。 Gawdat states that even if he knows everything about our external world, he would only be able to predict 10% of our long term happiness, leaving 90% to how we personally perceive our reality。 I observe this to be true in all areas of life - the rich can often be unsatisfied and unhappy and those in fantastic life situations can find themselves depressed or wanting more。 Overall this summarises the essence of this book - in response to his sons death, Gawdat took it upon himself to find his own happiness as that is a personal journey we must all undertake and no amount of external factors can replace it。 。。。more

A very interesting look at human emotion with a perspective from someone who suffered enormous grief。 I appreciated the engineering mindset。 Some parts were wonky to me but I could understand where he was coming from。 This book had the best breakdown of the theory of evolution that I have ever read or heard。The author covered a wide range of topics and stayed away from being self help syrup。

hari kita, yaitu masalah pikiran, diri, pengetahuan, waktu, kendali, dan rasa takut。 Dalam masalah pikiran, ada suara - suara kecil yang sering terdengar di kepala kita, dan sering kali kita merasa kalau suara itu adalah suara dari dalam diri kita dan apa yang kita mau。 Nah dalam buku ini disebutkan bahwa itu lebih ke hal yang mempengaruhi kita berdasarkan dari hal - hal yang kita inginkan dan faktor pengaruh lingkungan pergaulan kita yang membuat kita kemudian merasa bahwa dengan kita mengikuti itu kita akan merasa lebih tenang ataupun bahagia padahal belum tentu benar。Kemudian masalah mengenai diri sendiri, sering kali kita tidak tau siapa diri kita, dan pertanyaan mengenai siapakah diri kita sebenarnya adalah sebuah pertanyaan paling rumit untuk dijawab dengan sebenarnya。 Saat kita akan menjawab pertanyaan mengenai siapa diri kita, faktor pengaruh luar lainnya akan turut serta disana , maka dalam buku ini juga dikatakan bahwa anda bukan emosi anda, anda bukan keyakinan anda , anda bukan nama anda, ataupun anda bukanlah silsilah keluarga dan secara umum diringkas sebagai anda bukanlah anda。 Dan diri kita atau anda yang sebenarnya adalah anda yang tanpa semua itu melainkan anda yang sedang dalam kesadaran penuh atas kendali anda tanpa pengaruh faktor lain。Lalu lanjut ke masalah pengetahuan , apa itu pengetahuan , dan ternyata dalam buku ini dikatakan bahwa pengetahuan itu sejatinya ialah ketika anda menyadari sampai di titik mana anda yang tidak tahu。 Itu baru disebut anda punya pengetahuan。 Luar biasa。Satu masalah lagi , tentang waktu, ketika kita juga terlarut dan berfokus pada masa lalu ataupun berfokus pada masa depan, maka itu sebenarnya kita hidup dalam pikiran kita saja, bukan hidup dalam kenyataan sebenarnya。 Maka nikmatilah masa sekarang。Tentang kendali ataupun pengendalian sikap , ingatlah satu hal ketika sedang menghadapi suatu masalah , bahwa semua akan berakhir baik - baik saja。 Kalau masih belum baik, maka kisahnya berarti belum berakhir。Selanjutnya dan pada akhirnya kenali lah rasa takut anda kata buku ini, yang dimaksudkan agar kita mengenal dan mengetahui hal - hal apa saja yang sebenarnya kita takuti, agar kita tidak terkena hal itu dan kita kembali trauma akan rasa takut itu dan gagal untuk bahagia。Pembahasan yang menarik bagi saya di sini adalah salah dua dari lima kebenaran, yaitu kematian dan perancangan。 Di mana kebanyakan dari kita kerap kali takut dan mencoba menghindar dari kematian。 Padahal kematian sendiri merupakan suatu kebenaran yang pasti akan kita alami。 Kematian seakan menjadi momok yang menakutkan sehingga kita berusaha untuk menyangkalnya。 Pada akhirnya kita menjadi tidak bahagia dan hanya dipenuhi dengan ketakutan。 Namun, jika kita menerima dan menyadari jika kematian hanya merupakan dari siklus kehidupan Gawdat yakin kita akan bisa menjalani hidup dengan damai dan bahagia。 Intinya jangan pernah merasa jika kematian adalah sebuah akhir, tapi justru merupakan awal dari kehidupan。 Selain kematian Gawdat juga dengan cerdik memasukan pembahasan soal rancangan。 Banyak yang percaya akan teori evolusi dan mempertanyakan soal "Sang Perancang"。 Di sini Gawdat tidak ingin membawa-bawa soal agama atau kepercayaan。 Dia bisa mengeluarkan pendapatnya melalui fakta dan perbandingan yang jujur saja dapat saya terima soal bagaimana kehidupan yang ada campur tangan dari Sang Perancang alih-alih hanya sekadar kebetulan。Secara keseluruhan Rumus Bahagia: Model Kebahagiaan yang Hakiki menyajikan sekelumit fakta bahwasanya kebahagiaan dapat ditemukan dengan cara yang sederhana。 Pikiran manusia memang dirancang untuk bertahan hidup。 Maka tidak heran jika otak kita selalu memerintah untuk waspada。 Rasa takut dan marah yang kerap muncul adalah bentuk dari pertahanan diri yang dilakukan boleh otak。 Mo Gawdat memberikan solusi nyata di mana sesungguhnya kita dapat mengendalikan pikiran kita。 Bukan sebaliknya pikiran yang mengendalikan kita。 Dengan memahami isi pikiran, sadar akan apa yang terjadi, dan berusaha menikmati setiap momen merupakan langkah yang tepat untuk bersuka cita。 Hampir separuh isi buku selaras dengan pendapat saya。 Bagaimana bahagia itu bukan sekadar materi atau pencapaian, tapi soal penerimaan dan menikmati apa yang kita miliki dan rasakan。 Penyampaian Gawdat terbilang padat, tapi menyenangkan。 Buku ini selain memberikan pandang hidup yang baru juga terasa sangat personal。 Di mana Gaweat seperti ingin mengenang hidup anaknya, Ali, melalui buku ini。 。。。more
