absolute waste of my time and money, the mentions of animal sacrifice made me sick, and the “flying” spells seemed like absolute mockery, in conclusion don’t buy this book

Beautifully written spells and incantations, however, I do not align with the same way of witchcraft, therefore the book wasn’t of much interest to me。 Informational for a much more traditional witch and for witches who are carrying out witchcraft in covens。

I’ll be honest。 i only really have the book for spooky decoration reasons。 Most spells, even if they are real, are quite cruel and barbaric。 Bought this at my local Halloween store, it’s really the only place it belongs。

Mona Kabbani

Rituals that require some form of animal cruelty can definitely be replaced with representations - anything not harmful。 Overall, I can’t really rate a spell book but I enjoyed the dive。

A book made for a money grab。 Full of cultural appropriation and racial slurs。 Not recommend for the serous Witch。

If I could give 0 stars, I would。 From the introduction I could tell this book would be decidedly NOT great。 She says many spells come from other cultures and belief systems, some of which are closed systems that you can't just freely practice。 There are Indigenous "pow wow" spells, "gypsy" spells and charms (why use the word gypsy? Unless I missed clarification, that is not how they refer to themselves AND it has negative/prejudiced connotations)。 Though I love simple spells and incantations, o If I could give 0 stars, I would。 From the introduction I could tell this book would be decidedly NOT great。 She says many spells come from other cultures and belief systems, some of which are closed systems that you can't just freely practice。 There are Indigenous "pow wow" spells, "gypsy" spells and charms (why use the word gypsy? Yeah no。。 this book is a parody。 It had “spells” with Christianity names like Jesus and God。 I think the author thought it would tickle her tail feathers writing a “book of spells” but this is not a book any pagan should buy。 I think it might be meant as a joke at first by the author but then she figured she can make money off of it。

I have mixed feelings about this witchcraft book for several reasons。 On the one hand, I am very new to this topic, knowing next to none about these methods and the history of witches and magic。 Although I am an atheist, I consider myself to have an open mind, so I picked up this book with curiosity, in order to learn about why people practice witchcraft。 In the next few paragraphs I'll discuss some of my thoughts, opinions and conclusion。At first sight, this book seems very commercial and mains I have mixed feelings about this witchcraft book for several reasons。 On the one hand, I am very new to this topic, knowing next to none about these methods and the history of witches and magic。 Although I am an atheist, I consider myself to have an open mind, so I picked up this book with curiosity, in order to learn about why people practice witchcraft。 In the next few paragraphs I'll discuss some of my thoughts, opinions and conclusion。At first sight, this book seems very commercial and mainstream, something that turned me towards my natural skeptical side and read it on the assumption that it was all BS and play-pretend。 But taking a look on the notes I realized that there is a lot of history behind these spells。 This is what interested me the most about the book, learning about the beliefs and superstitions from several cultures from different places around the world。On witchcraft, spiritism and occultism: I don't believe actual deities and events beyond the explanations of science exist。 But I do enjoy reading and investigating about these topics for educational, cultural and political reasons。 As someone who believes in absolute liberty of religion and expression, I think it is great that people seek out alternative views about the universe other than the ones provided by powerful institutions such as Christianity, Catholicism and Islam。 For personal spirituality (and liberty), anything is acceptable as long as you don't cause harm to yourself or others。In conclusion, I enjoyed reading Witchcraft from a purely historical perspective。 I do not encourage anyone to actually try out what is described in the book。 Especially the spells that involve killing animals or gathering their body parts。 There are probably many occultism books and grimoires that offer better philosophies and rituals that align with better values。 Other than that I don't regret reading this as it taught me a little about the cultures and history surrounding witchcraft around the world。 。。。more

This book has a variety of spells and potions to take inspiration from。 It is filled with folkloric and great content。 This is not a book if you are just starting out on this path。 This is for those people who are looking for some historical and folk magic traditions to take some inspiration from。

I’m a practicing eclectic witch of 8 years and like to collect books so I can help guide newbies with non-biased recommendations / give information based on their path, as I never had that option of being properly guided years ago。 Personally, I Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone taking the path seriously。

Interesting for general knowledge on spells from different cultures。 However, it has some seriously dangerous spells。 Would not use any of these spells but it’s interesting to see what different cultures would do or say for similar things。 And how similar they are to some spells used today。Wouldn’t recommend anyone to use these spells, there’s a lot of lack of information in every spell。

That book should not have been written。Some of the rituals and spells are just harmful and dangerous, even illegal sometimes。 It is also deeply rooted in cultural appropriation。 You should use a voodoo doll if you haven't been initiated in voodoo, you should not but using cherokee or pow-wow charms/rituals if you're not a native, etc。。。It is also very strict, telling you that if you didn't harvest this herb at that time of the day or did the spell at this place it will not work。 For beginners, t That book should not have been written。Some of the rituals and spells are just harmful and dangerous, even illegal sometimes。 It is also deeply rooted in cultural appropriation。 You should use a voodoo doll if you haven't been initiated in voodoo, you should not but using cherokee or pow-wow charms/rituals if you're not a native, etc。。。It is also very strict, telling you that if you didn't harvest this herb at that time of the day or did the spell at this place it will not work。 For beginners, this is setting barriers。The list of omens weren't that bad but I skipped most of the book because the contente was just inappropriate, dangerous and harmful。I'm sorry, but no。 。。。more

Holy wow is this book ever awful。 I have been a witch for 15 years, and rarely have I ever seen such bullsh*t in one place。 This is the book equivalent of spellsofmagic。com。 It is very clear that this author has absolutely no respect for other cultures, the craft, or really anything。 These spells are not only illegal, they're dangerous。 DO NOT BUY THIS。 If you want good books on witchcraft, get Scott Cunningham or Arin Murphy-Hiscock。 Don't waste your money on this garbage。 Holy wow is this book ever awful。 I have been a witch for 15 years, and rarely have I ever seen such bullsh*t in one place。 This is the book equivalent of spellsofmagic。com。 It is very clear that this author has absolutely no respect for other cultures, the craft, or really anything。 These spells are not only illegal, they're dangerous。 DO NOT BUY THIS。 If you want good books on witchcraft, get Scott Cunningham or Arin Murphy-Hiscock。 Don't waste your money on this garbage。 。。。more

I liked the cover art that’s about it。 It was like a mishmash of beliefs systems and their prayers turned into a “spell” book。 It was also poorly written。

Very interesting book。 Not for magical beginners or those of Wiccan leanings。 The entire first section on magical tools was weirdly specific and odd as it didn't seem to be tied to any specific practice or path and therefore was not useful。 The spells are nicely varied in both topic and background。 My main complaint is that there was little to no context or historical explanation for obviously historical spells。 This can easily lead to some confusion ( as seen in other reviews)。 Overall a nice Very interesting book。 Not for magical beginners or those of Wiccan leanings。 The entire first section on magical tools was weirdly specific and odd as it didn't seem to be tied to any specific practice or path and therefore was not useful。 The spells are nicely varied in both topic and background。 My main complaint is that there was little to no context or historical explanation for obviously historical spells。 This can easily lead to some confusion ( as seen in other reviews)。 Overall a nice compendium of older spells from various backgrounds。 。。。more

Beautiful book, carefully put together with a variety of spells and potions to take inspiration from。 I feel like many readers have missed the point of this book and it's folkloric and fun contents。 If you are freshly starting out on the path, like a nervous new-born lamb, and wish to take every word of a book as literal gospel, I do *not* recommend this book to you。 You would be far better off looking at the variety of Wiccan or Pagan witchcraft "Bible"s currently out there。 For those with imma Beautiful book, carefully put together with a variety of spells and potions to take inspiration from。 I feel like many readers have missed the point of this book and it's folkloric and fun contents。 If you are freshly starting out on the path, like a nervous new-born lamb, and wish to take every word of a book as literal gospel, I do *not* recommend this book to you。 You would be far better off looking at the variety of Wiccan or Pagan witchcraft "Bible"s currently out there。 For those with immagination, who are simply looking for some historical and folk magick traditions to take inspiration from for your next private ritual or spell, this book offers a plethora of ideas and amusement。 。。。more

Really regretting not reading these reviews before buying it because I agree with all the one-star reviews here。 It's a terrible book, and even any entertainment value it could have is lost due to the racism, violence against animals, stolen content, and constant reference of christian men being credited with witchcraft origins。 I'll probably turn it into a book box, because the covers nice, and the contents are useless。 Really regretting not reading these reviews before buying it because I agree with all the one-star reviews here。 It's a terrible book, and even any entertainment value it could have is lost due to the racism, violence against animals, stolen content, and constant reference of christian men being credited with witchcraft origins。 I'll probably turn it into a book box, because the covers nice, and the contents are useless。 。。。more

I bought this book mainly for the list of omens and symbols in the back, but I thought I would give the whole book a look, now that I owned it anyway。 I was a little afraid it would be heavy on the Wicca front, but it wasn't。 Instead, the little talk about where magic came from was interesting and down-to-earth。 I actually agree with some of it。 Like how what was counted as magic before is known as science today, so why can't it be the same for what we call magic today? This book isn’t a handbook it’s more of a look into old ways of witchcraft that I don’t believe should be able to pass today。 Some were grand but there was a lot of animal cruelty in this book that I did not like。 It was interesting though to read spells people in the past used。

If you’re looking for a historical reference, this might be a bit useful, which is the only reason it gets two stars。 Frankly, I can’t believe this was published–the author uses at least two slurs to name groups she takes spells from, takes spells from closed religions (ie religions that do not want their beliefs used by those not of that religion), and tries to conflate magic with science。 Not to mention a lot of the stuff calls for dead animal bits (or, in at least one case, the head of a dead If you’re looking for a historical reference, this might be a bit useful, which is the only reason it gets two stars。 Frankly, I can’t believe this was published–the author uses at least two slurs to name groups she takes spells from, takes spells from closed religions (ie religions that do not want their beliefs used by those not of that religion), and tries to conflate magic with science。 Not to mention a lot of the stuff calls for dead animal bits (or, in at least one case, the head of a dead PERSON)。 Like I said, useful maybe for those who want to be historically accurate when writing spells for fiction, but otherwise a waste of time。。。 and likely offensive。 。。。more
