A beautiful, moving, wonderful story。 A love story that is a page turner, these characters become your friends who you care about。 Brilliant

Absolutely gorgeous。 Dex and Em’s friendship is just stunning。 I knew how it finished, but it still hit my like an absolute dump-truck- huge sobs。 My heart aches but I also feel all warm and fuzzy。 If you haven’t read this, read it。 If you don’t want to read it, at least watch the film (that’s definitely what I’ll be doing this evening)!!!

you’re telling me my favourite movie that I cry to each time is a book? EEEEE 🏃‍♀️

This started off boring, then picked up the pace, then regurgitated that ending。Star-wise it started at 2, when went up to 4, and comfortably settled at 3。I’m a mixed bag about this book。

Interesting method of recording every July 15th for 20 years。 It took me a while to get into this book, but it got better as it progressed。

I cried。 I related。 I was moved by this book! I found it hard to understand the characters at first then at other times I didn’t want the story to end and I still feel that way now I finished the book。 It had an unexpected storyline, showed a realistic take on relationships rather than being filtrated by lovey-doveyness the whole way through。 now I want to find more books like it!

3。5🌟 I thought having seen the movie would prepare me for this book。 It did not。

Skimmed。 After around 100 pages I knew I didn't like the style。 I know its called One Day but the amount of drivel packed into the days is ridiculous。Also, the title is misleading。 Had it actually just focused on the one day per year, it might have been better。 A more suitable title would be "annual reflections on the previous 12 months", as you generally hear about the other 364 days per year as well。 I can see why a lot of people like this book, but I just can't。 Its also needlessly long。 A be Skimmed。 After around 100 pages I knew I didn't like the style。 I know its called One Day but the amount of drivel packed into the days is ridiculous。Also, the title is misleading。 Had it actually just focused on the one day per year, it might have been better。 A more suitable title would be "annual reflections on the previous 12 months", as you generally hear about the other 364 days per year as well。 I can see why a lot of people like this book, but I just can't。 Its also needlessly long。 A better job could have been done in half the word count。 。。。more

I have seen the film a few times before reading it and as always the book is a million times better, (don't get me wrong I still love the film too)。 This story of Dexter and Emma is so devastating and so true to life。 You feel yourself yelling at them to just get together throughout but I do believe that they come to together at a time that is right for them。 Although it would be nicer if they got together from the start。 This story really highlights the struggle t I absolutely adore this story! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Bem, o livro nos faz acompanhar 20 anos da vida de Dexter e Emma, presenciando todas as fases pela qual a relação deles passa。 O livro se torna um pouco tedioso e enrolado quando a gente tem que ler anos bem negativos e até repetitivos, além disso, o casal só fica junto lá pro final da segunda década。 Por essas coisas eu demorei mais de um ano pra ler o livro kkkk, mas quando a gente vai se aproximando do final, o livro fica incrível e a gente percebe porquê precisou passar pelos anos ruins com Bem, o livro nos faz acompanhar 20 anos da vida de Dexter e Emma, presenciando todas as fases pela qual a relação deles passa。 O livro se torna um pouco tedioso e enrolado quando a gente tem que ler anos bem negativos e até repetitivos, além disso, o casal só fica junto lá pro final da segunda década。 Por essas coisas eu demorei mais de um ano pra ler o livro kkkk, mas quando a gente vai se aproximando do final, o livro fica incrível e a gente percebe porquê precisou passar pelos anos ruins com os personagens e sentir, inclusive, o tédio que eles sentiam e afins。 Enfim, o final é trágico, mas humano e o autor nos faz sentir muito bem a melancolia e nostalgia do Dexter nos últimos capítulos, senti muita empatia por ele, mesmo que ao decorrer do livro (quase todo) ele tenha me feito muita raiva。 。。。more

Took me a while to finish as not much happens, very domestic。 Slow but comforting - friends to lovers trope - enjoyable。 Ending was disappointing and strange compared to the rest of the novel。

Omg I didn’t know I would be able to get the same feeling as ‘Normal People’ so soon。 This feels more inauthentic but I still believe in it。 I love how each chapter is crafted and the prose so far。 It is cinematic kind of dialogue but nice all the same。I don’t really care for the two protagonists yet (three chapters in) but I’m intrigued in the romance and that’s what matters at the moment。 I should like to love these two people as well。 Wish me luck。This is appears to be where Romance threatens Omg I didn’t know I would be able to get the same feeling as ‘Normal People’ so soon。 This feels more inauthentic but I still believe in it。 I love how each chapter is crafted and the prose so far。 It is cinematic kind of dialogue but nice all the same。I don’t really care for the two protagonists yet (three chapters in) but I’m intrigued in the romance and that’s what matters at the moment。 I should like to love these two people as well。 Wish me luck。This is appears to be where Romance threatens to fall。 The first hundred pages can show a lot of promise but it is often too make-believe to be a believable exploration of romance, and human nature in romance。 Take the holiday Dex and Em go on - total fluff。 It’s the more schlocky tropey stuff that really doesn’t need to be there, I’m fine without the sexual tension intensified at moments like this, if they end up together with out these scenes。 I think it might be a scenario to throw in there to appease the middle aged women。 Nicholls reminds them, Yes。。。 it will get hot。 Isn’t this moment wankable too? That hold you off, big girl?God forbid I actually find a contemporary romance that has the same vibe as ‘One Day,’ or ‘Normal People’ that has layers and layers of philosophical merit。1993 ‘Emma’s Story’ is very good。 I really don’t like Ian, but I guess these two aren’t the worst match。 Oh my god I just read the end of the chapter, what the fok! And the way it seemed like Emma was gonna get home to act out a major act of kindness。。。 instead: Ian Whitehead :’(The “foot massage that had spun wildly out of control” had me reeling in the bus, but it’s straight out of ‘Pulp Fiction’ right?(view spoiler)[WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING DAVID NICHOLLS? You’re LAME。 You cock。 It’s okay (hide spoiler)], I was just arguing with myself about how this book doesn’t really deserve a 4/5, and you’ve rested the case, you hog。The ending is okay。 I think about it ((view spoiler)[Emma’s death (hide spoiler)]) being incredibly crude。 It was one of those kinds of jabs at the reader that are undeserved。 It was done so simply and out of nowhere and what follows isn’t anything special enough to warrant the plot point。 The same kind of thing that this “Part Five” does could easily be done more gratifyingly without pulling cheap tricks。 The first few pages of this fifth part were bad reading because of this。 It had a similar aura to the worst chapters of the book, and it was he beginning of the ending, bad play。 Luckily there were some satisfying things in the ending (the book is still a little ruined, fuck)。I'm gonna keep rambling because I'm annoyed, I'm sorry, this book is not warranting laughter, it's laughable。 Something as distracting as the aforementioned ruinous plot point, an event which adds almost nothing to what the book is saying to me, is embarrassing。 It averts too much attention away from the whole “human nature” kind of themology of these books。 What a stupid thing to have written。 I hope it was the editor(s) that suggested it, then I might read another Nicholls book。Overall the "One Day"s - the July 15ths - was a concept pulled off really well。 The narrative felt experimental which is good, but it really isn't madly special。 Often when time moves in books I have a very, very hard time ageing the characters in my head (Harry Potter is always 12) but I owe gratitude to this book for making it so easy to age Dex and Em。 Particularly Dexter went through so many concrete changes that by the time you are reminiscing about him at the start you are like wow, you’ve grown old boy! I feel like authors mustn't do much heavy lifting in this respect, where Nicholls hit the spot here。The finals page was fine, I don’t usually have high expectations with what last-pages will deliver, as long as you don’t ruin your book on it。 I care about the journey, lol。 When the harem of lovely booksellers recommended to me it came with the keyword “cheesy,” and I definitely succumb to that aspect of the book when I say how this quote made me feel: “(view spoiler)[it was the sweetest kiss that either of them would ever know。 This is where it all begins。 Everything starts here, today。 (hide spoiler)]” I find this to be naww, nice, and on the plus it nails home the main point of the book。Me saying I value the journey is a lie if I am discrediting the book because of one jilting moment。 The journey was pretty good。 It was funny enough。 The social circle and the way it develops is some good Romance-world-building。 I was mostly happy while I was in these pages。 It seems I've forgotten to mention the aesthetic too。 The 90s stuff was bloody great。 Good vibes。 The TV and celebrity world, also the night life were a joy to picture, and it felt a little bit more real than something like 'Trainspotting' (movie) depicts the 90s as, so there is something to be grateful for。Do I want to keep reading romance from now? No。 Lol。 From what I can tell 'Normal People' will be the best Romance of this kind (contemporary) I will ever read。 'High Fidelity' will be my favourite。 I will certainly read Nick Hornby's bibliography, and look forward to Sally Rooney's other, and forthcoming, novel。 Jane Austen and other classics will be given a shot, but otherwise, 'One Day,' you've ruined me。 。。。more
