Summary

In the world of Tokyo Ghoul, sometimes the only way to fight monsters is to become one…

The Commission of Counter Ghoul is the only organization fighting the Ghoul menace, and they will use every tool at their disposal to protect humanity from its ultimate predator。 Their newest weapon in this hidden war is an experimental procedure that implants human investigators with a Ghoul’s Kagune, giving them Ghoul powers and abilities。 But both the procedure and the newly formed Qs Squad are untested。 Will they become heroes…or monsters?!

Haise Sasaki has been tasked with teaching Qs Squad how to be outstanding Investigators, but his assignment is complicated by the troublesome personalities of his subordinates and his own uncertain grasp of his Ghoul powers。 Can he pull this ragtag group together as a team, or will Qs Squad’s first assignment be their last?

Slow start, but there are some good moments。 Basically I don't like any of the new characters and the bits with Kaneki/Haise don't make up much of this volume。 But when they show up, they're excellent。 Liked the ending a lot, teasing us with Juzo and Touka。Note: I didn't like Juzo as first either, but he grew on me, so here's hoping the new squad does too! I really like Tokyo Ghoul, but this iteration started on a sour note。 I honestly don't find the doves all that interesting。 There is alot less of the psychological aspect to this one as well, but hopefully it will pick up。 The art is still pretty good, and the action is decent, it's just not the original。 I really like Tokyo Ghoul, but this iteration started on a sour note。 I honestly don't find the doves all that interesting。 There is alot less of the psychological aspect to this one as well, but hopefully it will pick up。 The art is still pretty good, and the action is decent, it's just not the original。 。。。more

The plot to this one was interesting and involves a group of up-and-coming Ghoul investigators called the Quinx Squad, their leader Haise is a one eyed ghoul, who is more human than ghoul but has their ruthlessness track ghouls and deal with them。Their first target in Vol。 1 is a serial killer with the codename Torso。。。。。That's all I'll say。I'd like to point out that it's beautifully illustrated and I can't wait to see where it all leads, need to start Vol。 2 immediately。 The plot to this one was interesting and involves a group of up-and-coming Ghoul investigators called the Quinx Squad, their leader Haise is a one eyed ghoul, who is more human than ghoul but has their ruthlessness track ghouls and deal with them。Their first target in Vol。 1 is a serial killer with the codename Torso。。。。。That's all I'll say。I'd like to point out that it's beautifully illustrated and I can't wait to see where it all leads, need to start Vol。 2 immediately。 。。。more

Some slight translational issues, and sometimes difficult to keep up with the action。 Despite this still 5 stars, was absolutely hooked the whole way through, and thoroughly enjoyed myself。

Tokyo Ghoul: re Volume 1-16 - 4/5 By Sui Ishida This is a review for the whole series, SPOILERS AHEAD。 I am really glad Tokyo Ghoul: re is a 'thing'。 Tokyo Ghoul was left on such a cliffhanger - leaving you wondering what was going to happen to Kaneki following his fight and subsequent memory loss。 The beginning of this series focuses on Kaneki following his memory loss - where we get to see him leading his own task force, fighting the ghouls and him working on getting his memory back。 I felt th Tokyo Ghoul: re Volume 1-16 - 4/5 By Sui Ishida This is a review for the whole series, SPOILERS AHEAD。 I am really glad Tokyo Ghoul: re is a 'thing'。 Tokyo Ghoul was left on such a cliffhanger - leaving you wondering what was going to happen to Kaneki following his fight and subsequent memory loss。 The beginning of this series focuses on Kaneki following his memory loss - where we get to see him leading his own task force, fighting the ghouls and him working on getting his memory back。 I felt this was a really well written story and completed in such a way that you are able to empathise with Kaneki and his long term goal of bringing peace to all humans and ghouls。 What follows is a beautifully drawn, action packed, exciting story that you didn't want to end。 I almost felt like the last chapter was like end credits for a movie。 I really enjoyed it and found that it was different from so many endings of a series of books。 After 16 volumes you become quite attached to the characters and it was nice to see how their lives went on following the events over the story。 If you are a fan of Tokyo Ghoul, I would definitely recommend you gives this series a read! 。。。more

"WARNING SPOILERS" this book was really intersting why i liked it was because of the main character was dealing with mixed personality's like he has a good side and evil side and other sides。 he wants to mostly protect his friends and make sure he doesn't lose them like he lost his mom at a young age he keeps on getting stronger and stronger to make sure it doesn't happen to his friends while this stuff was happening he died and they kept his body and they changed his name to haise mean string o "WARNING SPOILERS" this book was really intersting why i liked it was because of the main character was dealing with mixed personality's like he has a good side and evil side and other sides。 he wants to mostly protect his friends and make sure he doesn't lose them like he lost his mom at a young age he keeps on getting stronger and stronger to make sure it doesn't happen to his friends while this stuff was happening he died and they kept his body and they changed his name to haise mean string of perals。 really hope they make more vol。 my favorite part was when he cracked his finger and started acting like an SSR ghoul。 i think you should read this cuz it wont make you bored i love this book i wished i could read this 10,000,000,000 times my thoughts on this book is i really like it and when you read it it gets you in a reading mood and you just start reading and reading i think everyone should read this book。 。。。more

This was a pretty explosive start to what I hope is going to be a phenomenal second series。I had quite a few questions at the end of TG and can’t wait to find out the answers to them (one of them being how Kaneki lost his memory。。。I really hope that wasn’t explained in vol。 14 of TG) as it has been a little while since I finished the first series。 In this opening volume, Kaneki is now known as Haise Sasaki, a Rank 1 Investigator who is currently responsible for Mado Squad (named after Akira Mado This was a pretty explosive start to what I hope is going to be a phenomenal second series。I had quite a few questions at the end of TG and can’t wait to find out the answers to them (one of them being how Kaneki lost his memory。。。I really hope that wasn’t explained in vol。 14 of TG) as it has been a little while since I finished the first series。 In this opening volume, Kaneki is now known as Haise Sasaki, a Rank 1 Investigator who is currently responsible for Mado Squad (named after Akira Mado, Kureo’s daughter) known as the Quinxes (humans who have had kagunes implanted in them so they are better equipped to defeat ghouls and surpass the ability of Kisho Arima)。 Their first investigation sees them trying to track down a ghoul known only as ‘the Torso’ who takes these from the scene of their crimes, leaving behind their heads and limbs。。。There are quite a few new faces in this series but I have a feeling Urie could be a key player。。。we shall see。 As always, I love the artwork (despite how bloody and gory some scenes can be) and really like the pace in this opening volume so I have very high hopes。。。especially when it ends where it does - talk about reeling you in - for TG: re。 I have a feeling I won’t be disappointed :) 。。。more

Gonna be honest, IDK how to review TG:re without spoilers, so sorry for how vague this is。 Tokyo Ghoul:re takes place after the events of Tokyo Ghoul。 We are introduced to a new cast of characters, this time our focus is on a group of investigators at the CCG。 What is their connection to Ken Kaneki, our previous protagonist, and who exactly is Haise Sasaki? Throughout the entire series, there are maybe one or two character I'm unable to sympathize with, and I love how the story isn't good versus bad , it's both sides trying their best to survive in a terrible world, and how both humans and ghouls just want to find something to live for, despite the fact that life is sad and tragic。 。。。more

I think this series isn't for me right now。 This first volume felt like a sketched out summary of a plot that assumed you know lots of details of the world already (and I was lost even despite reading the first volume of the main series this spun off of)。 There's also an attempt at major revelations and office politics that mostly seemed like flat bluster。 The art is dark and atmospheric, but the action scenes are pretty incomprehensible。 On the whole I feel a bit let down。**Thanks to the artist I think this series isn't for me right now。 This first volume felt like a sketched out summary of a plot that assumed you know lots of details of the world already (and I was lost even despite reading the first volume of the main series this spun off of)。 There's also an attempt at major revelations and office politics that mostly seemed like flat bluster。 The art is dark and atmospheric, but the action scenes are pretty incomprehensible。 On the whole I feel a bit let down。**Thanks to the artist, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

First, I've read the first volume of Tokyo Ghoul, and have watched a few episodes of the anime, so I have a basic understanding of what's going on, but I feel like I would've enjoyed this more is I had read/watched more of the original material。 So, if you haven't at least got some idea of what's going on in this world, more than what I've got, this isn't the place to start, start with Tokyo Ghoul and read/watch a good chunk of it。 I was a bit lost。Tokyo Ghoul gives us the story from the ghouls First, I've read the first volume of Tokyo Ghoul, and have watched a few episodes of the anime, so I have a basic understanding of what's going on, but I feel like I would've enjoyed this more is I had read/watched more of the original material。 So, if you haven't at least got some idea of what's going on in this world, more than what I've got, this isn't the place to start, start with Tokyo Ghoul and read/watch a good chunk of it。 I was a bit lost。Tokyo Ghoul gives us the story from the ghouls perspective, Tokyo Ghoul: re is from the ghoul hunters perspective, in particular a new squad called the QS Squad, whose agents have a ghoul's kagune implanted in them, giving them ghoul abilities。 Haise Sasaki has been put in charge of this new group of agents; will he be able to pull them together and make this experiment work, or will it fail before it really begins? The art is great, the ghouls are creepy af, and the action scenes well done。 As this is the first volume, the story is still introductory, and not really in full swing yet, but it seems to be off to a good start。 The writing feels good to me, but I don't have the insights a more diligent reader of the series does, so YMMV。 I did enjoy the characters quite a bit, it'll be fun seeing them grow into a team in future volumes。#TokyoGhoulreVol1 #NetGalley 。。。more
