I read this with my 4 year old son, it’s a favourite of his, and with the brilliant illustrations it means he can follow the story while I’m reading。 Roald Dahl never disappoints!

Linda

Love this book。 Even my son loved it。

Nancy

Tasty ending!

Vaishali

The only Dahl book I’ve ever completed, due to his consistent use of abusive language。 Found this one underwhelming and largely repetitive, sans a surprising if violent end。Meh。

I read this to my girls for their bedtime story and they were cackling - like those great, big, belly-laugh giggles that kids are famous for。 Any read-aloud that makes them laugh that hard earns a permanent spot in our home library。

Probably the shortest of Roald Dahl's books, I finished this one in 10 minutes! It's a tale of an enormous crocodile who wants to eat some children。 He makes the mistake of sharing his plan with all his jungle friends - Humpy-Rumpy the hippo, Trunky the elephant, Muggle-Wump the monkey, and Roly-Poly Bird。 Before the enormous crocodile can finish his clever tricks, the animals each rush out if the jungle every time to warn the children (no children were harmed in the telling of this story!)。 And Probably the shortest of Roald Dahl's books, I finished this one in 10 minutes! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I think I've mentioned before in reviews how strange it is re-reading books from your childhood, knowing the vague outline of the story and maybe one or two details but not the whole thing。 I had the experience again reading this - I remembered the picture of the crocodile whizzing around in a circle, but couldn't quite remember how or why。 It's always such fun to find things out again, especially if it's a book you loved when you were younger, as this one is for me。 I could almost hear the voic I think I've mentioned before in reviews how strange it is re-reading books from your childhood, knowing the vague outline of the story and maybe one or two details but not the whole thing。 I had the experience again reading this - I remembered the picture of the crocodile whizzing around in a circle, but couldn't quite remember how or why。 It's always such fun to find things out again, especially if it's a book you loved when you were younger, as this one is for me。 I could almost hear the voices my dad used to do when he read it to me, as I went through myself。I haven't mentioned in any of the reviews I've done if Dahl's books how much is added to them by Blake's illustrations。 I think this one might have the most added, as the drawings throughout are fantastic, and there's almost as much content in them as there is is the story, since it's so short。 He does a fantastic job of getting just the right cunning idiocy and childish malevolence into each drawing of the crocodile, and the almost slap-dash approach he takes to his art really works for kid's books such as this。It's a good little book, even if only short。 Dahl puts enough mild peril and gruesomeness to appeal to kids, without being too scary for them to handle。 I'm excited for after lockdown, when I can read these for my niece - or even her to me! 。。。more

This was a really cute book with lots of detail in both the writing and the illustrations。 I expected it to have a lesson at the end of the book but instead it had an unexpected ending where the story just ends。 Not every book needs a lesson or the antagonist turning good but I just expected the crocodile to learn something from the other animals。 Still a good book that would keep children's attention。 This was a really cute book with lots of detail in both the writing and the illustrations。 I expected it to have a lesson at the end of the book but instead it had an unexpected ending where the story just ends。 Not every book needs a lesson or the antagonist turning good but I just expected the crocodile to learn something from the other animals。 Still a good book that would keep children's attention。 。。。more

I would highly recommend this book as it is suitable for most ages (particularly KS1) and includes beautiful illustrations。 Despite having a lot of text, it works really well in Year 1 and for F/S children。

Dahl's tales always have that naughty-child's-dream-come-true mood on。 A quick story read by author himself。 I always wonder how much his books would affect me, if I read those when I was a child。 Dahl's tales always have that naughty-child's-dream-come-true mood on。 A quick story read by author himself。 I always wonder how much his books would affect me, if I read those when I was a child。 。。。more
