Summary

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days。

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder。 No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal。 As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares。 The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl。 Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color。

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell。 Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind。 Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body。 Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now。

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon。 Or be a warrior。

Ok, the protagonist is a women。 But a fragile one, scared of herself, that only shows a moment of strength closer to the end of the book (which for me wasn’t even that impressive—more due to the writing aspects of it than her actual actions before anyone comes for me)。 There are few mentions to other girls that aren’t at all elaborated or even able to, in my perspective, be considered side characters, more like extras。For anyone who has read the Red Queen (2015), the similarities are clear。 An outcasted girl discovers she has abilities (i’m not saying powers or a gift because she makes sure we are reminded at every page that she sees her self as monster) and gets noticed by a high power government agent who gets obsessed with her in a turbulent line between passion and power。 Both stories come to a point in which she discovers she is not the only one who’s different and that there is this whole rebellion/community。 Although Shatter Me (2011) was written before, i enjoyed the Red Queen a lot more, for many reasons, but a big one would be the development of the actual dystopian world, taking into perspective that shatter me gives very little details about it。 Which makes me believe that this book is a lot closer to a romance than a dystopia。 It’s a fast, easy, entertaining book nonetheless。 If you’re someone just getting into reading this could be a good place to start。 PS: english is not my first language so excuse any mistakes 。。。more

One of the best “dystopian” novels I’ve ever read。 The writing style is so unique and enthralling。 Can’t wait to read more!

Honestly, this book was alright。 I thought Juliette’s character was quite interesting and I enjoyed the very unique writing style。 Everyone else says the rest of the books in the series get better, so I will continue to read。 The characters need more development and the romance seems a little forced。 (also Warner is SO toxic in this book。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Only 2 things made me plough through this mess of a book; the characters and the plot。 I suppose those are ultimately the main takeaways from any novel but the writing was just too, for lack of better words, flowery and barf-worthy, at times。 The way Juliette describes the things around her made me wanna throw up, I shit you not。 I suppose all the crossing outs and the repetitive words are an acquired taste but I could barely stand the mess before my eyes; especially on ebook。Speaking of messes, Only 2 things made me plough through this mess of a book; the characters and the plot。 I suppose those are ultimately the main takeaways from any novel but the writing was just too, for lack of better words, flowery and barf-worthy, at times。 The way Juliette describes the things around her made me wanna throw up, I shit you not。 I suppose all the crossing outs and the repetitive words are an acquired taste but I could barely stand the mess before my eyes; especially on ebook。Speaking of messes, Juliette's insta-romance with Adam was just ???? I mean I get how they were there for each other and all that but sis literally popped the four letter word barely weeks(?) into being with each other LMAO uh you go girl ?? That aside, I must say that I can see 13y/o me blush and giggle at the whirlwind romance and the flowery writing style。 Alas, a much more mature 18y/o can't help but shudder at the constant kissing and swooning Juliette and Adam manage to do despite being on the run (AND TRYING TO DO THE NASTY WITH YOUR BROTHER NEXT DOOR TOO??? SHAME ON YOU, ADAM)Surprisingly enough, I did enjoy the actual story line。 The characters were quirky (in a good way) and somewhat complex, especially Warren, who had me intrigued the moment he was introduced。 Although I sense a love triangle brewing, which I am not keen on, I definitely will be reading the second book because I am a creature of curiosity。 Hopefully the writing style is more bearable :D 。。。more

This is probably the worst book I have read by far。 1。 Juliette remembers going to school but now there is no school。 So what happened between that 5 or so year period?? It isn’t even like the handmaid‘s tale。2。 Climate change thing is never explained。3。 Love interests are either psychotic or nasty4。 The powers thing is only introduced at the end as a frickin rebellion (instead of realistically implemented like red queen)Also the metaphors were really getting on my nerve。I have never rated a boo This is probably the worst book I have read by far。 1。 Juliette remembers going to school but now there is no school。 So what happened between that 5 or so year period?? I about choked on all the metaphors in this book that made no fucking sense。 Some of them were so silly。 The writing style was。。。different。 Cringe dialogue, but I recognize that I’m no longer the target audience, so whatever。 I don’t normally like dystopian, but it was entertaining enough for me to want to continue the series lol。

Yeass, that's what。 I know it takes a lot of time to write a book & I feel like Tahereh Mafi is lazy。 She didn't put enough effort into this & her other books。 It feels like the book didn't get through a critical beta reader or even editorial phrase。 Her writing was not impressive enough。 It was cliche ( I thought writers try to avoid this?) I get that she tried to be adventurous but it turned out to be like this。 I didn't get a lot of things in this novel Like the role of the villain。 He don't seem to have a solid motivation。 Yeah, I don't get his motivation, it was not explained。 Also the motivation of Adam(the hero?) seems kind of weird。 ■[Mighty Spoiler alert]■He seems like - So, I had this introverted shy girl as a friend since childhood who I didn't even talk with once but I fall hard for her who probably don't even like me, now she is in danger & I should make sky & earth one to rescue her & be the white knight。 Shweet but unrealistic。 Also the plot twist wasn't hawt, I was not excited。 And their hideout is a flop(Adam decided to leave his 10 year old brother to tend for himself so that he could join the evil party to discover the grand truth & processed to hide there afterwards)But somehow this book is famous & have good reviews。 Yeah, I also saw this book in my 14 year old cousin's self。 And he didn't seem to complain about it upon asking。 So, it is famous among the new readers & teens & anyone Muslim who seems to get exited by the idea of having a Muslim writer who writes romance。 But for a heavy reader like me, well, it needs a lot of work。 。。。more

YEP YEP YEP。 I really loved this。 Especially the writing style, I just found it so interesting that it showed Juliettes' crossed out thoughts。 Also this concept was pretty fascinating, and I think it was executed very well (especially in how it showed Juliette's trauma as a result)。 I know a lot of people found her annoying but I sympathized with her a lot。 This was just such a unique book。 Also, Warner。。。 :3 YEP YEP YEP。 I really loved this。 Especially the writing style, I just found it so interesting that it showed Juliettes' crossed out thoughts。 Also this concept was pretty fascinating, and I think it was executed very well (especially in how it showed Juliette's trauma as a result)。 I know a lot of people found her annoying but I sympathized with her a lot。 This was just such a unique book。 Also, Warner。。。 :3 。。。more

I wasn’t a fan of this book, however I do know many that enjoy, the thing that did it for me was I went in reading not knowing there was a love triangle which I really do not like !! However I was quite intrigued and enjoyed the start, but this book is defo a romance, but I won’t be reading the follow ons <3
