Summary

Todd Anderson and his friends at Welton Academy can hardly believe how different life is since their new English professor, the flamboyant John Keating, has challenged them to "make your lives extraordinary! " Inspired by Keating, the boys resurrect the Dead Poets Society--a secret club where, free from the constraints and expectations of school and parents, they let their passions run wild。 As Keating turns the boys on to the great words of Byron, Shelley, and Keats, they discover not only the beauty of language, but the importance of making each moment count。But the Dead Poets pledges soon realize that their newfound freedom can have tragic consequences。 Can the club and the individuality it inspires survive the pressure from authorities determined to destroy their dreams?

i read it because i love the movie, but to be honest it really wasn't adding anything to the story。 it was a super quick read though so it was a nice break from reading a long series :) i read it because i love the movie, but to be honest it really wasn't adding anything to the story。 it was a super quick read though so it was a nice break from reading a long series :) 。。。more

I have never felt so emotional attached to a book before。 The message of this book is so important and everyone should read it at some point in their lives。 It made me sob to the point of a headache but I think it was worth it。 It actually inspired me to continue studying English, so that’s something! Also watch the movie too!

Though the movie is magnificent, the book is just。。。 Just。。。 Honestly the author is just describing the movie's scene, there's no sentiments, no chills。 It barely describe any characters physically, so you have to see the movie first to put a face on a name。 Conclusion : good story, poorly told。 Though the movie is magnificent, the book is just。。。 Just。。。 Honestly the author is just describing the movie's scene, there's no sentiments, no chills。 It barely describe any characters physically, so you have to see the movie first to put a face on a name。 Conclusion : good story, poorly told。 。。。more

The ending is quite sad, so be warned of that。 It’s written pretty dryly, but I don’t exactly feel that it works much for this book in my opinion。 On top of that, you don’t get enough time to really care about the characters that much since the book is so short。 However, it’s very entertaining and kind of a comforting book to be honest。 It has a really nice coming of age story, and as others have pointed out, shines a light on things adults don’t often realize as they are raising children

i liked the movie better🧍butttt i did like how we got to know more about todd’s character in the book。 i felt extremely disconnected from him in the movie, although i know that was the point kindaalso, neil + todd 4everrrr

Decided to read and watch this for the first time today, and I give the book 3 stars and the movie 4。5 stars。 Honestly it was a lot of privileged white boys doing privileged white boy shenanigans, but it played out better as a movie。

Okay listen, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely ADORE the movie version!! However, in Reading the book I came to the realisation that a large part of what made the movie so inspiring was the wonderful chemistry of the actors。 The Dead Poets have so much character and sparkle when played by Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, etc but fell a bit flat on the page for me。 The same can be said about Keating, although his message is certainly still inspiring, it doesn’t come across quite as powerfully as Okay listen, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely ADORE the movie version!! Ok so I don't regularly write actual reviews but the DPS movie is very important to me, so I actually wanted to sit down and talk about this book properly。 I hated it。 I started this book months ago around late November and I read about half of it until I really didn't feel like picking it back up。 It was a mix of the book not being very good and my hyperfixation being over。 DPS has recently become quite popular on tiktok which caused me to hyperfixate on it once more, even though I never enjoye Ok so I don't regularly write actual reviews but the DPS movie is very important to me, so I actually wanted to sit down and talk about this book properly。 I hated it。 I started this book months ago around late November and I read about half of it until I really didn't feel like picking it back up。 It was a mix of the book not being very good and my hyperfixation being over。 DPS has recently become quite popular on tiktok which caused me to hyperfixate on it once more, even though I never enjoyed it, I had been meaning to finish the book just for the sake of finishing it, so I used this opportunity to finish it today。 In case you don't know, this book is based on the movie, and it was published 9 years after the movie was released。 This movie didn't need to be a book。 Perhaps it could've been a good book, if it had been written from Neil's or Todd's perspective, or if it had actually gone into depth about the movie's themes。 Instead of doing any of those things, this book is simply the movie and its deleted scenes adapted into a book format。 Movies tend to be fast-paced considering they usually only last around two hours, because of this they usually don't get to go in depth and detail about things in the same way a book can。 This is where the problem comes in if you're going to adapt a movie into a book and not add anything, you end up with a book that comes off as rushed and shallow。 Not only was barely anything added but some things were cut even。 The scene where Neil and Todd chuck the desk set is a beautiful scene and one of my favorites, but in the book, it's cut short for no apparent reason。 I'll give them points for giving Charlie's character a bit more depth and a character arc。 They also made Meeks and Pitts slightly more prominent than in the movies which was appreciated。 These were nice touches but any points it may have earned the book are taken away by the fact that they stripped Knox down to only a chris-obsessed man。 I don't condone of Knox's actions in the movie as is but in the book, there is not one moment where he speaks of something without it being related to Chris and how much he "loves" her。 He comes off as overtly creepy in his infatuation and (spoiler alert perhaps) downright sexually assaults her during Chet's party。 Additionally, the characters at times did things that I found to be out of character, but I won't make a big point about it considering that's a pretty subjective topic。 I don't think its ever necessary to adapt a screenplay into a book, it's a difficult and unnecessary task considering the story was written with the purpose of being displayed on the silver screen。 Regardless, it could've potentially been good, but it was executed very poorly。P。S。I’ve read the original screenplay and if you’re looking to read the movie that’s a much better choice。 。。。more

Best book I have ever read。 In love with the language and the way poetry is perceived in the book。

I kind of think this book helped me understand some of the details in the movie better。 I don’t think I’ve ever read a book based on a movie before so this was fun。 I’ll definitely need to rewatch the movie soon to compare。 Final thoughts: I do really love this movie and the book。 I somehow managed not to completely bawl my eyes out reading the book。 Definitely recommend to fans of the movie。

This was a pretty good story about a group of young boys in boarding school who learn to stand up for their beliefs and more from their English teacher Mr Keating。 Will they succeed? Read on and find out。 This book is also a movie starring Robin Williams and you can find this book at your local library and wherever books and ebooks are sold。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Eigentlich ganz nett。 Man merkt schon, dass das Buch nicht das Originalmedium ist, aber das hatte Vor- & Nachteile。 Leider hab ich echt keine Nerven mehr für solche Darstellungen von Frauen und Liebe。 Als Chris Knox zum x-ten mal erklären musste, dass sie von diesem Typen der sie nicht mal kennt nichts will dachte ich kurz echt, dass da mit den Klischees zu Liebe-auf-den-ersten-Blick aufgeräumt wird, aber nö, er respektiert einfach Ihre Grenzen weiterhin nicht und nachdem er sie verlängert anglo Eigentlich ganz nett。 Man merkt schon, dass das Buch nicht das Originalmedium ist, aber das hatte Vor- & Nachteile。 Leider hab ich echt keine Nerven mehr für solche Darstellungen von Frauen und Liebe。 Als Chris Knox zum x-ten mal erklären musste, dass sie von diesem Typen der sie nicht mal kennt nichts will dachte ich kurz echt, dass da mit den Klischees zu Liebe-auf-den-ersten-Blick aufgeräumt wird, aber nö, er respektiert einfach Ihre Grenzen weiterhin nicht und nachdem er sie verlängert anglotzt verliebt sie sich dann doch in ihn。 Supi。 。。。more

The problem with this is that is for all intents and purposes the screen play converted to a simple novel。 The dialogue is word for word in most cases。 Its a good story but not that great a novel however its still its a fun read especially if you enjoyed the film and haven't watched it recently。 The problem with this is that is for all intents and purposes the screen play converted to a simple novel。 The dialogue is word for word in most cases。 Its a good story but not that great a novel however its still its a fun read especially if you enjoyed the film and haven't watched it recently。 。。。more

if you’ve seen the film, there’s no real reason to read this book。 if you haven’t, then just watch the film instead - it’s far better than this book。
