Summary

HarperCollins is proud to present its incredible range of best-loved, essential classics。

The animals at Manor Farm have had enough of Farmer Jones – he’s drunk, he’s reckless and he cares little for the welfare of his animals。 When Old Major, the old boar, calls a meeting, the animals are enthralled by his revolutionary plans, convinced that with the despot Jones overthrown, they can thrive on their own。

However, soon after the farmer is banished from Manor Farm, the pigs begin to vie for control amongst themselves; the promised comforts never appear, no matter how hard they work; and their leaders begin to bear an uncanny resemblance to the very men they said they despised…

George Orwell’s renowned fable became an instant success on publication after the Second World War。 The novel has continued to captivate readers of all ages, and has secured Orwell’s position as one of the great writers of the twentieth century。

The fact that it feels too familiar makes you angry。 If a book written in 1940s still reflects our current reality, then it means we have done some very wrong decisions as the humanity along the way。 Or is this the perpetual reality? Does power always have a corrupting effect and is it an inevitable end? I hope not。Either way, it is a must read。

Surprisingly, I found this book to be quite enjoyable – not for its reminder of the terrors of totalitarian regimes but for George Orwell’s amazingly crafted allegory。 Although a little context about the Russian Revolution is needed to fully understand the political overtones of this book, I really think that the allegory is so well-crafted in such simple language that anyone can read this and get a good grasp of what’s wrong with totalitarian leadership as well as how propaganda can easily fuel Surprisingly, I found this book to be quite enjoyable – not for its reminder of the terrors of totalitarian regimes but for George Orwell’s amazingly crafted allegory。 Although a little context about the Russian Revolution is needed to fully understand the political overtones of this book, I really think that the allegory is so well-crafted in such simple language that anyone can read this and get a good grasp of what’s wrong with totalitarian leadership as well as how propaganda can easily fuel its power。 It’s a fairly short book (around 150 pages), but I would definitely recommend this because you’ll come out of it drawing clearer parallels between historical incidents and what we see playing out today。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I had trouble starting this at first。 But once I got into it it was really good。 Also, that ending! Did not see that coming。 My jaw dropped when the animals found out that the pigs were walking on 2 legs!!

Animal Farm is a novel that completely shook me。 A novel that will haunt and accompany for the rest of my life, and that I will continue to dread and look forward to picking up again and again and again。MUST READ! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

What a dangerous thing knowledge can be。 Orwell was exceedingly clever to use something as seemingly innocent as animals to represent a malignant rebellion。 I watched the pigs and other animals move from an ideal filled with courageous comradely to a movement only benefitting the greedy few at the very top of their distorted society。 Orwell communicates the sense of frustration that may have rippled through the smarter animals as they watched the manipulative superior animals twist information a What a dangerous thing knowledge can be。 Orwell was exceedingly clever to use something as seemingly innocent as animals to represent a malignant rebellion。 I watched the pigs and other animals move from an ideal filled with courageous comradely to a movement only benefitting the greedy few at the very top of their distorted society。 Orwell communicates the sense of frustration that may have rippled through the smarter animals as they watched the manipulative superior animals twist information and the values of the rebellion into a weapon built to their own advantage。 Animal farm started of as a utopian dream and ended as a place riddled with a very human sense of greed。 。。。more

A terrific read, always something new to note on every read。 I love Orwell purely for just how radically ahead of his time he was。 Think of any social or political struggle of today and you can easily spot a Napoleon, a Boxer or a Snowball。 Timeless

I've said it before, I'll say it again: ORWELL IS A FUCKING GENIUS。 This book was absolutely brilliant。 Its timeless message is just as unnerving and scary as 1984。 tangina napaisip ako sa walang humpay na katarantaduhang ginagawa ng gobyerno ngayon。 pls I've said it before, I'll say it again: ORWELL IS A FUCKING GENIUS。 This book was absolutely brilliant。 Its timeless message is just as unnerving and scary as 1984。 tangina napaisip ako sa walang humpay na katarantaduhang ginagawa ng gobyerno ngayon。 pls 。。。more

Why didn't I read this earlier? Absurd satire about human nature。 Classic for a reason。 The last sentences gave me goosebumps and make no doubt one of the most impressive book endings I've read so far。 Why didn't I read this earlier? It compares USSR with animals in a farm, though comparison is good, but no proper climax。 it could've been better,if written a few years later。 it shows that, power drives everyone crazy。 It compares USSR with animals in a farm, though comparison is good, but no proper climax。 it could've been better,if written a few years later。 it shows that, power drives everyone crazy。 。。。more

4。5 starsthis was, to me, a very finely written allegorical tale。 it was thought provoking yet interesting, and made for a quick and easy read。 while i understood most of the basic topics and what most of the events symbolized, i’m excited to discuss further the intricacies and see how these events are beginning to play out in our society。 phrases like "some animals are more equal than others" are disturbingly relevant。 looking at culture will prove this。 anyways, i would recommend easily as som 4。5 starsthis was, to me, a very finely written allegorical tale。 it was thought provoking yet interesting, and made for a quick and easy read。 while i understood most of the basic topics and what most of the events symbolized, i’m excited to discuss further the intricacies and see how these events are beginning to play out in our society。 phrases like "some animals are more equal than others" are disturbingly relevant。 looking at culture will prove this。 anyways, i would recommend easily as something that nearly anyone can read but will need a bit more time to unpack the meanings of。 。。。more
