Summary

What if you fell in love with the one person you'd sworn to destroy?

Lara has only one thought for her husband on their wedding day: I will bring your kingdom to its knees。 A princess trained from childhood to be a lethal spy, Lara knows that the Bridge Kingdom represents both legendary evil - and legendary promise。 The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom controls all trade and travel between lands, allowing its ruler to enrich himself and deprive his enemies, including Lara's homeland。 So when she is sent as a bride under the guise of fulfilling a treaty of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture the defenses of the impenetrable Bridge Kingdom。

But as she infiltrates her new home - a lush paradise surrounded by tempest seas - and comes to know her new husband, Aren, Lara begins to question where the true evil resides。 Around her, she sees a kingdom fighting for survival, and in Aren, a man fiercely protective of his people。 As her mission drives her to deeper understanding of the fight to possess the bridge, Lara finds the simmering attraction between her and Aren impossible to ignore。 Her goal nearly within reach, Lara will have to decide her own fate: Will she be the destroyer of a king or the savior of her people?

Holy crap。 So I commuted the gracious offense in the reading world and I judged this book by its cover (I know I know) and avoided it because I thought it looked childish。 It was amazing! READ IT

4。5 stars rounded up。 I have a snake phobia so I was bothered by the amount of snakes in this book LOL。 Other than that, very much loved the political scheming and characters。 I do feel like it was a but predictable and the world building could have been better。 That did not detract from my enjoyment of the book though。

I give this book 5✨ I loved reading this book! Probably by far the best series I have read yet。 I just Oder the second one and cannot wait to start reading it!

3。5 StarsIf such a thing as a slow-burn instant romance exists, it's the relationship in this book。 I didn't fully buy it。The steamy scene was well done though。 Not my favorite of fantasy books but definitely not bad! Worth the $2。99 on Kindle and free for Audible subscribers! 3。5 StarsIf such a thing as a slow-burn instant romance exists, it's the relationship in this book。 I didn't fully buy it。The steamy scene was well done though。 Not my favorite of fantasy books but definitely not bad! This is hands down one of the best fantasy romances I have read in a while! Loved loved loved it!!! It was so hard to read towards the ending because I knew what was coming and it broke my heart! But the fact that I was invested not only in the couple but also into the lives of all of the subjects of Ithicana is what made the experience even more amazing! A well deserved 5 star read!

I really really enjoyed this book, to the point the tension gave me anxiety。 4。5/5 stars

I really enjoyed this book up until chapter 33。 Without spoilers, it was frustratingly predictable and annoying。 But after a bit of a break I got over what happened and read on。 Aside from this one occurence it was a good read and I will continue with the next book。

I had to five star this。 I mean an enemies to lovers forced marriage with espionage? Count me in。 The writing was really good, and I was a big fan of the political machinations because it wasn’t overdone, but still had enough complexity。 The romance wasn’t too slow burn for me。 I loved every second of it。 This gave me big Feyre and Rhysand vibes。 I loved the warring internal conflict of Lara, and it was just the right amount without me wanting to yell at her for being stubborn。 The miscommunicat I had to five star this。 I mean an enemies to lovers forced marriage with espionage? I tried many times to get into it but just couldn't。 The writing is not good and I don't like stories where all characters need to be incredibly stupid and naive for the plot to work。They're also incredibly inconsistent。 (view spoiler)[Only thing Lara knows about her father is that he intented to murder her and her sisters, but after the animosity in the first chapter she suddenly starts trusting every word that comes out of his mouth。 She has been trained all her life but is as scared and confu I tried many times to get into it but just couldn't。 The writing is not good and I don't like stories where all characters need to be incredibly stupid and naive for the plot to work。They're also incredibly inconsistent。 (view spoiler)[Only thing Lara knows about her father is that he intented to murder her and her sisters, but after the animosity in the first chapter she suddenly starts trusting every word that comes out of his mouth。 She has been trained all her life but is as scared and confused and overwhelmed by her situation, which, once again, she has been preparing for her whole life。 (Not to mention that she's not showing any signs of lacking any developmental skills that child raised to kill and spy without loving parental figures would have。) (hide spoiler)](view spoiler)[Aren is suspicious and mistrustful。 He can't sleep when there are no storms guarding his Bridge Kingdom, that's how worried he is about others attacking them, and he lets his enemy bride walk around with freaking knives on her waist, isn't suspicious when first night of Lara's stay both he and his sister pass out, and he remembers Lara in his room but dismisses it as a dream。 So is he the most trusting and naive person ever or is he a worried and mistrustful ruler? Make up your mind! (hide spoiler)](view spoiler)[Oh, and I haven't been trained to be an assassin and a spy all my life, so I'm not an expert here but wouldn't it make sense NOT to infiltrate their rooms several hours after arriving there before you scouted the location, let servants get used to you (servants are also incredibly dumb when they find Ahnna freaking passed out on the table alone with Lara and don't suspect anything!), learning all the sounds, the movements of the guards (guards are also stupid for keeping watch on her but somehow not noticing she is sneaking into their King's bedchamber), the schedule of the house。。。。 You know, learn a bit about the location and your targets。 You have a year to complete your mission and you want to do it the first night? And she knew she didn't give enough sleeping draught to Aren, but why let that stop you!? ✨✨4。5 - 5 Stars✨✨Last 10% gave me palpitation。。。 The whole world building , the enemies to lover situation and definitely the bitch queen made it a great book。 There are small things that I didn't like but the sum of it is I loved it。Going for the next book。 ✨✨4。5 - 5 Stars✨✨Last 10% gave me palpitation。。。 The whole world building , the enemies to lover situation and definitely the bitch queen made it a great book。 There are small things that I didn't like but the sum of it is I loved it。Going for the next book。 。。。more

4。5 This was surprisingly good。 Solid characters, great world building, plenty of political intrigue, with a good romantic plot line that didn’t take over too much。 The world building was my favourite thing about this book。 A lush snake filled chain of islands with a huge ancient bridge running through the storm riddled seas, which is the only thing between the two land masses。 It’s also crucial to trade so of course everybody want a piece of it。 So everything about the bridge and how to get ins 4。5 This was surprisingly good。 Solid characters, great world building, plenty of political intrigue, with a good romantic plot line that didn’t take over too much。 The world building was my favourite thing about this book。 A lush snake filled chain of islands with a huge ancient bridge running through the storm riddled seas, which is the only thing between the two land masses。 It’s also crucial to trade so of course everybody want a piece of it。 So everything about the bridge and how to get inside is shrouded in secrecy so that the bridge kingdom can never be overthrown by all the greedy kings。 Ahh it’s just so good and well thought out。 It was a little predictable in parts but it didn’t take away my enjoyment。 It’s super action packed and I wish it were longer。 Lara could be a bit annoying at times but I suppose she’s only human and will make mistakes like any person。 Will be jumping straight into the next book after that cliff hanger。 。。。more

*cawpile rating: 9。00 = 5 stars - feels more like 4。5*This was so entertaining。 The first chapter of this book already starts of very intriguing。I don't think I actually have a lot to say about this book。I really liked Lila, seeing her badass moments but also seeing her slowly change and realise what is actually going on。 Her moments with Aren, where they were actually talking and getting to know one another were amazing。 Aren is such a sweetheart and so freaking precious - you just can't not li *cawpile rating: 9。00 = 5 stars - feels more like 4。5*This was so entertaining。 The first chapter of this book already starts of very intriguing。I don't think I actually have a lot to say about this book。I really liked Lila, seeing her badass moments but also seeing her slowly change and realise what is actually going on。 Her moments with Aren, where they were actually talking and getting to know one another were amazing。 Aren is such a sweetheart and so freaking precious - you just can't not like him。 His sister was also funny and I wish we had a few more moments with her there and maybe seeing a friendship between her and Lara develop, but I am excited what the second book might do about that。There were a few moments where I felt that Aren was a little bit too trusting and not reallc acting politically smart but he did that to ensure Lara feels safe and good which was sweet even though she still took advantage of that at the point。 I just really enjoyed seeing her slowly interact more with the people from his country and learning to love them。The ending was heart breaking but also freaking amazing! 。。。more

This book was good and very well written。 The last 50 pages had me literally shook。 I couldn’t put it down, I was completely devoured; I was left wanting so much more。 There are so many thing about this book that are amazing and beautiful。 Highly recommend。

Picked this up thinking it was a completely different book but i got hooked from the first chapter。 It was fine I guess, I really liked the world building。 Lots of cheesy tropes。 Idk if imma be reading the next book though。

I enjoyed the new concept and it was a nice break from a fantasy binge。 Easily readable in a day。 I wish we got to see more of the side characters but I assume that comes in the next book。 Fast-paced but the enemies part of enemies to lovers drags on for nearly the entire book。 Also I got increasingly annoyed with Lara's failure to see reality。 I enjoyed the new concept and it was a nice break from a fantasy binge。 Easily readable in a day。 I wish we got to see more of the side characters but I assume that comes in the next book。 Fast-paced but the enemies part of enemies to lovers drags on for nearly the entire book。 Also I got increasingly annoyed with Lara's failure to see reality。 。。。more

I loved this book! This world is very interesting, as is the romance aspect。 I 100% knew that the letter would be sent and things would play out the way they did, and even though I didn’t love how it turned out, it’s definitely part of what makes the story so compelling。 I can’t wait to see how it plays out in the next book。

This book caught my attention immediately and I never wanted to put it down。 Lara is such a spunky character and watching her arch was an adventure in itself。 I found myself wishing I was in the jungle scenery so I could actually get a glimpse of the bridge! The ending had me actually screaming! I ordered the second book before I was even done with the first!
