Summary

An alternate cover of this ISBN can be found here

When a plane crashes on a remote island, a small group of schoolboys are the sole survivors。 From the prophetic Simon and virtuous Ralph to the lovable Piggy and brutish Jack, each of the boys attempts to establish control as the reality - and brutal savagery - of their situation sets in。

The boys' struggle to find a way of existing in a community with no fixed boundaries invites readers to evaluate the concepts involved in social and political constructs and moral frameworks。 Ideas of community, leadership, and the rule of law are called into question as the reader has to consider who has a right to power, why, and what the consequences of the acquisition of power may be。 Often compared to Catcher in the RyeLord of the Flies also represents a coming-of-age story of innocence lost。

4 or 4。5 stars。 This book is brutal but sooo interesting。 William Golding really understood human nature and the need for law and order and he communicated it in such an interesting way! Surprised I never read it In high school because it’s themes are not too hidden but it’s a great study for so many literary devices。

Another one of my very favorites! I've read this book once before I knew the Lord, and once after。 Reading it post-salvation revolutionized my understanding and respect for this book。 Mankind is totally depraved without the protection of Christ—Golding does an impeccable job in creatively conveying that doctrinal truth! Stunned by the brutality and yet desensitized at the same time。 Why is it so easy to achieve complacency about wrong doing? Our culture is rife with such indecency。 It’s not right and yet it happens, again and again。 Darkness inks it’s blackness into our lives and though we baulk, strive to make a stand against it’s ills, it infects regardless。 A sobering story。

The book talks about evil。 Evil is gradually seducing the protagonists of "The Lord of the Flies" (1954), a group of child survivors of a plane crash who must organize in their new condition as castaways on a desert island。 A book as annoying as it is necessary, as uncomfortable as it is essential。 It hurts when they put their fingers in the wound。 Golding does it ruthlessly。 。。。more

One of the most disturbing, bone-chilling works of fiction ever written。 Strangely, but not unexpectedly, the premise of this book will stay fundamentally relevant through generations。 William Golding, the British Nobel-prize winning author, makes an interesting observation in the audiobook foreword (which is in itself amazing that the audiobook exists in his own narration) about why there were no girls in this mini human jungle -- he says, and I'm paraphrasing, that women are not to be consider One of the most disturbing, bone-chilling works of fiction ever written。 Strangely, but not unexpectedly, the premise of this book will stay fundamentally relevant through generations。 William Golding, the British Nobel-prize winning author, makes an interesting observation in the audiobook foreword (which is in itself amazing that the audiobook exists in his own narration) about why there were no girls in this mini human jungle -- he says, and I'm paraphrasing, that women are not to be considered equal but emotionally evolved, better members of society and therefore would not have been representative of the brutal hierarchical "society" engineered by the boys stranded on this fictional island。 A strange concoction of our primal human instincts manifested through the actions of young boys -- fear, dominance, survival; left running amok in a truly uninhibited place makes this book an ageless heavy-weight。 。。。more

Its message on the darkness of men, and its commentary on authority, order, society etc。 are still relevant today。 I enjoyed this book even if the kids were annoying, and some things weren't making sense if you actually pondered upon them, good thing it is only short though。 Its message on the darkness of men, and its commentary on authority, order, society etc。 are still relevant today。 I enjoyed this book even if the kids were annoying, and some things weren't making sense if you actually pondered upon them, good thing it is only short though。 。。。more

Honestly, quite disappointed。 This was so terribly slow, the last 15-20 pages were the only part that I found interesting。 Maybe had it played up in my head with so many references to a hunger games feel? 🤷🏼‍♀️ was not what I expected and found myself skimming most of the pages。

A good book overall。 It was a little bit repetitive and circular, and a bit boring at times。 But it was very well written, Golding knew how to engage the reader with extensive vernacular。 It provides an honest insight into the darkness of the human heart, especially through the lens of innocent children。 A harrowing look at the true nature of the human heart。 A classic yes, but not the best classic I’ve ever read。

Lord of the Flies is a fiction novel written by William Golding in 1953。 Golding wrote his first novel in 1953 which was “Lord of the Flies” up until his last novel “The Double Tongue” which was published two years after his death。 Many believe that his book had tainted views from what he experienced during his tenure in the Royal Navy during World War II。Some main characters in the book include, Simon who is seen as the prophet, Jack who is the antagonist, and Ralph who is the protagonist。 In t Lord of the Flies is a fiction novel written by William Golding in 1953。 Golding wrote his first novel in 1953 which was “Lord of the Flies” up until his last novel “The Double Tongue” which was published two years after his death。 Many believe that his book had tainted views from what he experienced during his tenure in the Royal Navy during World War II。Some main characters in the book include, Simon who is seen as the prophet, Jack who is the antagonist, and Ralph who is the protagonist。 In the book, a group of boys are stranded on an island during which multiple conflicts and issues arise。 The book is written in third person but the narrator is not a character in the novel。 Here is a quote to show an example of the writing style: “Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them。 Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw。 Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of old life。 Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law”。Children under 13 should not read this book due to its gore and extreme violence。 Most high school curriculums require this book to be read so be prepared to read it。 Although it wasn't my favorite book I would give it a 6。5/10。 If you have the chance to read it, I would recommend that you read it just to see what people deemed acceptable back then。 。。。more
