Better than The Kite Runner, this is a female perspective。 Engaging and filled with great language and imagery, this one held me more。

I love the title of this book。 However, it contains a lot of hurts for women。 This book walks readers through a long timeline of a hurtful history of Afghanistan。 I read Kite Runner before and I like that book more, because it contains a brighter future for main character。

This is one of the most impressive books I have read for a while。 I was absolutely shocked to find about just how dreadful the situation in Afghanistan was for women for many years in the recent history and how war upon war tore apart the country。 The story of Mariam and Laila is savagely tragic but beautifully written。 I read this book in Dutch not knowing it was originally written in English and I rarely if ever read English books in translation。 However, this translation is so exquisite that This is one of the most impressive books I have read for a while。 I was absolutely shocked to find about just how dreadful the situation in Afghanistan was for women for many years in the recent history and how war upon war tore apart the country。 The story of Mariam and Laila is savagely tragic but beautifully written。 I read this book in Dutch not knowing it was originally written in English and I rarely if ever read English books in translation。 However, this translation is so exquisite that you would never know。 Highly, highly recommended reading for on the one hand the sheer beauty of the book and for the other as a mandatory lesson of our recent history。 I don't think I will look the same at the country of Afghanistan or the few Afghan refugees in my country, who I respect even more now knowing where they come from。 。。。more

Sin duda alguna este libro me ha encantado de principio a fin! Un libro súper duro, pero a la vez muy hermoso! Mariam y Laila serán personajes que siempre recordaré! Con este libro finalizado mi marzo asiático!

I loved how this book made me feel a rollercoaster of emotions since the beginning of the story。 The dire and inscrutable circumstances of the characters (such as war and domestic abuse) are beautifully and superbly written by Khaled Hosseini。 It has bestowed upon me the gift of perspective and it broadened my vision regarding matters of life and death which means that what once was focused on personal insecurity or discontent seemed so small and shallow to me now, and all due to the impact of a I loved how this book made me feel a rollercoaster of emotions since the beginning of the story。 The dire and inscrutable circumstances of the characters (such as war and domestic abuse) are beautifully and superbly written by Khaled Hosseini。 It has bestowed upon me the gift of perspective and it broadened my vision regarding matters of life and death which means that what once was focused on personal insecurity or discontent seemed so small and shallow to me now, and all due to the impact of a fictional but powerful book。 I bear the pain of the two main characters, Mariam and Laila, yet also the simple pleasure of having each other。 I love how it is all painful but also enthralling at the same time。 Needless to say, I have learned a myriad of things from this book and for that, I am forever grateful。 。。。more

This book was a difficult read for me because of the horrible things that happen。 it was hard to think about how and if there would be redemption of characters。 it was kind of depressing for me

It was a really engaging book to read。 My biggest issue with the book was having it switch between characters a lot in the book and it confused me quite a bit and threw off the groove that I had。 It also was difficult for me to relate and feel for the book cause I don't connect with books very well but over all I would recommend the read if you have already read "The Kiterunner" and enjoyed it。 It was a really engaging book to read。 My biggest issue with the book was having it switch between characters a lot in the book and it confused me quite a bit and threw off the groove that I had。 It also was difficult for me to relate and feel for the book cause I don't connect with books very well but over all I would recommend the read if you have already read "The Kiterunner" and enjoyed it。 。。。more

This book is of my top 3 favorite books I've ever read。 This is one of the few books that I would consider "life-changing"。 it gives you a whole new perspective of life, and how you think。 This book made me happy, and sad, and cry。 It is an extremely deep and heavy book。 The topics it goes over are quite deep and I would recommend this book for mature readers。 This book makes me cry every time (all 4 times!!) Author has a unique writing skill that holds the reader until the end of the story。 This book is about how terrifying the life of women is in Afghanistan。 Miserable。 Totally in human!

Carlos Mancheno

This。 This is the emotion I look for in a 5 star book。 I usually say "if it doesn't make me cry, it's not 5 stars"。 This book didn't make me cry, but it made me FEEL so many strong emotions。 I actually felt connected to the characters, and that's something I haven't been able to find to this degree in a book in a while。This was so nice to read after the last (emotionless) book I read。 This。 This is the emotion I look for in a 5 star book。 I usually say "if it doesn't make me cry, it's not 5 stars"。 This book didn't make me cry, but it made me FEEL so many strong emotions。 I actually felt connected to the characters, and that's something I haven't been able to find to this degree in a book in a while。This was so nice to read after the last (emotionless) book I read。 。。。more

One must love, and hope。(cw: death, death of family member, execution, murder, war, graphic violence, rape, pregnancy, mentions of abortion, miscarriage, childbirth, domestic abuse) 。。。more

I can honestly say I haven’t read a book that gripped me like this one in a long time。 Reality which is terrible but it is, the strength which these women have in this terrible terrible war is nothing that we ever have to be part of please god in Ireland。 Definitely makes you think twice about these poor refugees having to leave there land and fight to survive。

Heartbreaking and Beautiful。 So so Beautiful。 I read this a few years back but I can never get over how amazing this is。It will forever change the way I see the world and will always live in a special place in my heart。

I did not think Khaled Hosseini could not outdo himself after writing The Kite Runner but he has with this fantastic book! What a beautiful story of tragedy and Redemption! This is a story of love, loss and acceptance。 What a wonderful book!
