Summary

Rosie may seem quiet during the day, but at night she's a brilliant inventor of gizmos and gadgets who dreams of becoming a great engineer。 When her great-great-aunt Rose (Rosie the Riveter) comes for a visit and mentions her one unfinished goal--to fly--Rosie sets to work building a contraption to make her aunt's dream come true。 But when her contraption doesn't fl y but rather hovers for a moment and then crashes, Rosie deems the invention a failure。 On the contrary, Aunt Rose inisists that Rosie's contraption was a raging success。 You can only truly fail, she explains, if you quit。

This picturebook promotes being creative and innovative in the sciences despite failures and includes many references to Rosie the Riveter and her iconic red and white polka dotted handkerchief。 Perfect for encouraging girls to want a career in the sciences as well as for not giving up in general。 Great for ages 4 and up in an educational or storytime setting or for ages 5-6 as an early reader to read on their own。

I was not expecting all of the incredible references this book has! This wonderful story is told in rhyming verse which makes it fun and easy to read。 I especially loved the content of the story with it's strong female characters and can do attitude。 My daughter was enthralled with the ideas captured in the pages! I love that it encourages readers not to give up on things they love whenever they do not go as planned。 Whenever Rosie's inventions did not work or people laughed at her, she felt discouraged, but she overcame that feeling and kept on inventing。 As a teacher, I would use this book in my classroom to encourage my students! I absolutely loved this book! This story focuses on the dreams of a little girl that wants nothing more than to make a change and me successful at it。 She is later mocked and brought down, but soon realizes she is great in her own way。 It also brings back ties to Rosie the Riveter! I would definitely use this in my classroom。 I believe this book could easily encourage my students and even encourage creativity that would stem outside the “normal” box。

I loved this story! This book focuses on Rosie Revere's great-great niece, Rosie Revere who is also an engineer in the second grade。 Young Rosie builds all types of contraptions and was always happy with them until the day she built a hat for her uncle。 He laughed at her thoughtful invention which made her feel as if she had failed。 This is the moment Rosie felt as of she'd never build again。 That is, until her great-great aunt Rosie came to visit。 Young Rosie made the decision to give building I loved this story! Young Rosie just has to figure out a way to keep it in the air。 This is such a great story to help teach failure and how to keep pushing towards success。 This book also demonstrates how you perceive something is not the same way others will。 I would love to use this book in my future classroom at the beginning of the year to illustrate to my students that they will have failures, that's inevitable, but they will get over them and become successful。 。。。more

I really liked this book because they flow of the rhymes made reading the book fun。 I also like how they made Rosie and her aunt Rose to be like the World War II icon Rosie the Riveter。 I enjoyed how the book teaches us that we can be whoever we want to be and that even though sometimes we fail and face adversity we should always keep doing what we love。

I believe that my young students would also be inspired by Rosie’s aunt’s words of encouragement。 Young children often don’t succeed at things on their first try and can get upset and discouraged。 This story will help them overcome those feelings of self doubt。 Teachers could even use this story to introduce a science lesson because it deals with inventing/making things。 I think teachers could also read this story at the beginning of the day or school year to set the tone of the classroom。 It is important to let students know that they won’t always succeed at the lesson material on their first try, but they should not give up。 They must keep trying and practicing and eventually they will become successful。 This book could be so inspiring for students and cause them to have the same mindset as Rosie at the end of the book, which I believe will be so beneficial for them。 。。。more

LIB 616: I love this entire series of books -- a great way to get kids interested in STEM careers while telling a story that they can relate to as well。 I particularly like that this one focuses on the necessity of failure and helps kids understand the importance of resilience。 The rhyming text is fun and rhythmic, and the illustrations are excellent。 There's also a tiny little author's note at the back, along with notes on the illustrations -- both are great little touches。 LIB 616: I love this entire series of books -- a great way to get kids interested in STEM careers while telling a story that they can relate to as well。 I particularly like that this one focuses on the necessity of failure and helps kids understand the importance of resilience。 The rhyming text is fun and rhythmic, and the illustrations are excellent。 There's also a tiny little author's note at the back, along with notes on the illustrations -- both are great little touches。 。。。more
