Summary

The level of public frustration and disengagement with political leaders has never been higher。 At the same time, the problems we need them to deal with, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, a crisis in aged care and accelerating climate change, are immediate and urgent。
Based on his experience working closely with a large number of ministers and their private offices, both at the federal and state level, and his time in the United States, Don Russell reflects on politicians, the political process and the role of government, and explains why our political leaders are as they are。 Drawing on his experience, including his involvement in the golden age of public policy of the Hawke/Keating years, and his observations on Australia’s early success responding to the pandemic, he suggests that there is a pathway that can lead to dramatically better outcomes for the country and more satisfying and longer careers for our politicians。 People want their elected officials to be informed, to be capable and creative, to be able to devise solutions that work, and then to be able to explain those solutions and bring the community with them。 They want their elected officials to lead。

After 45 volumes we finally have an out loud confession of love from one of our protagonists to the other。 And the looks we get of Ren's face in those final chapters? To DIE for! When Ren just silently GLARES at Kyoko after finally catching up to her in the elevator, I could feel his frustration, hear him panting, and the look just oozes determination。 When Ren yells that he's "charging for his girl" I was soooo excited。 It's been 45 volumes of will he/she, won't he/she finally confess to each other。 I'm so glad that Ren finally, FINALLY made a move。 Of course, Kyoko, being Kyoko, tries to misunderstand until the very end。 I think she finally gets it by those final scenes, but we won't know until volume 46。 I have loved this manga from volume 1 and I love it still to this day how many years later, having read them as they were published。 This is the moment where it can all start to change。 。。。more

Nakamura-san continues to twist the screws tighter and tighter, and the torture gets all the sweeter。 You can FEEL the anguish of Kyoko and Ren, and you want to reach into the pages and grip their hands。 The return of Bo as mediator is all too perfect, even as you watch poor Kyoko's heart breaking。 Her sincerity makes you want to scream, even as you understand and admire the strength of her character。 (Of course, you want to shake Ren for his ignorance the entire time) And Kana's secret - who sa Nakamura-san continues to twist the screws tighter and tighter, and the torture gets all the sweeter。 You can FEEL the anguish of Kyoko and Ren, and you want to reach into the pages and grip their hands。 The return of Bo as mediator is all too perfect, even as you watch poor Kyoko's heart breaking。 Her sincerity makes you want to scream, even as you understand and admire the strength of her character。 (Of course, you want to shake Ren for his ignorance the entire time) And Kana's secret - who saw that coming?! It winds you tighter and tighter until the elevator scene when you start cheering。 Right up to the point when Nakamura-san leaves you screaming at the book in complete and utter anguish。 Why? Why end things there? Especially when those of us in the U。S。 will have to wait six whole months for the next volume? I wanted to throw the book across the room and clutch it close all at the same time。 Pure, unadulterated torture。 。。。more

Finally, the moment I’ve been waiting for!!😳Looking over the edge of that cliff 😬 -hopefully the next volume will be available quickly。Skip Beat! is one of my favorite manga, possibly THE favorite。 Never fails to make me smile and has such fun and interesting characters。 The plot is quite original; it never gets boring or too full of tropes。 5 star!

Is this it? Did we finally (after 45 volumes) get a confession of love? :oNot a lot happening overall in this volume - a bunch of the usual misunderstandings and then some but that last act more than made up for it。 Super super well done <33Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy)(view spoiler)[Act 272。 (view spoiler)[Soooo… they want Kyoko to help teach Moko to speak English?--。。。I didn’t catch that。 What’s that about Cedric and Morizumi?--Ren’s there! Does this mean they can finally have an open and honest conversation?--Well that was both unexpected and ENTIRELY expected。 No open and honest conversation here, no。 Just Kyoko running off screaming 8’D But maybe Ren and Moko can have a chat instead? (hide spoiler)]Act 273。 (view spoiler)[Go Moko! Stand up for Kyoko and give Ren a good talking to! Whoooo!--What’s this that he’s talking about? What opportunity is Ren to take? Is he going overseas? Is he gonna be on that same show as Moko?--“He didn’t deny the tabloid report。”Yeah, because he’s a COWARD。 If you truly love Kyoko you should fight for her! D: (hide spoiler)]Act 274。 (view spoiler)[Oh hey! Kyoko (as Bo) has run into Ren again! This should be interesting :|--The heart-to-hearts between Ren and Bo are MY FAVOURITE THING in this series, I swear。 This is when Ren truly lets loose and is honest with himself, and honestly… it can also be damn hilarious, especially with Bo being Kyoko, so she also gets a chance to rage at Ren without being found out :P (hide spoiler)]Act 275。 (view spoiler)[。。。。that would explain why Ren says that Kana would never be interested in him, and was just using him。 Given that Kana likes women 8’D--Does this mean that Kyoko now knows that Ren likes her? Because of what he just said to Bo? :o --。。。and Kyoko’s shut down。 Oops。--…。Nope。 Nevermind。 She still thinks he likes that Morizumi girl。 Kyoko is still just as big an idiot as always 8’D--She’s telling him to confess his feelings for the one he loves, thinking that he loves Morizumi rather than her。 Good on you Kyoko for pushing down your own feelings in favour of his happiness there ;u;(Boy are YOU gonna be surprised when you find out it is NOT Morizumi :P) (hide spoiler)]Act 276。 (view spoiler)[I love how damn DENSE Kyoko is here。 Ren is NOT SPEAKING ABOUT MORIZUMI :P :P :P --So dense。 So。 So。 SO DENSE。--Ren and Kyoko (as Kyoko this time, not Bo) meet again! Dun dun dunnnnn。 (hide spoiler)]Act 277。 (view spoiler)[She’s running, and he’s chasing。 GO REN。 YOU CAN DO IT。 YOU HAVE LONGER LEGS。--HE CAUGHT UP TO HER。 GO REN。 Of course, now it appears they are trapped in the elevator together。 This should be good :| (hide spoiler)]Act 278。 (view spoiler)[After all that, has it finally clicked? Do you know what he means now Kyoko? Do you? ;u; (hide spoiler)]Act 279。 (view spoiler)[So she’s come to the conclusion that he was talking about her… but now she thinks it’s a joke she doesn’t get。 Of course :|--He’s also admitted to Kyoko that he was jealous when he saw her with Shou that time! Honesty FTW! --“The agony of not knowing how someone feels doesn’t only apply to women。 Please let me know how you feel。”I’m paraphrasing but that was so sweeeeet。 Just… that whole damn scene。 Very very sweet and genuine and heartfelt and just… <33333 (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

ARC via Edelweiss。 45 volumes later。。。 is it really happening??? Is the confession going to stick this time? This series is so ridiculous and over-the-top but it really makes me smile every time。 The whole scene where Kyoko is giving Ren romantic advice while dressed in a chicken suit。。。 visual poetry。
