'"Things like this happen sometimes，" I told him。 "Inexplicable， illogical events that nevertheless are deeply disturbing。 I guess we need to not think about them， just close our eyes and get through them。 As if we were passing under a huge wave。"' This new collection of 8 short stories from Haruki Murakami is， well， quintessentially Murakami。 Some of the stories have appeared in English over the last couple of years， and only the title story has never been published in Japanese before。 The stor '"Things like this happen sometimes，" I told him。 "Inexplicable， illogical events that nevertheless are deeply disturbing。 I guess we need to not think about them， just close our eyes and get through them。 As if we were passing under a huge wave。"' This new collection of 8 short stories from Haruki Murakami is， well， quintessentially Murakami。 Some of the stories have appeared in English over the last couple of years， and only the title story has never been published in Japanese before。 The stories reflect a wistful， nostalgic air， perhaps reflecting Murakami's long career。 In 'Cream'， a young man is invited to a piano recital that doesn't take place。 'On a Stone Pillow' tells the story of a one-night stand。 In 'Charlie Parker Plays Bossa Nova' a young student invents a Charlie Parker album to review for a student magazine， only to find a copy of the album， years later， in a record store。 Other stories focus on the usual Murakami tropes of music， baseball and oddball fleeting encounters。 Oh， and there's a talking monkey。As the title of the collection suggests， each story is told in the first person， and the events described are often triggered by a memory， or someone recounting something strange that happened to them。 In 'The Yakult Swallows Poetry Collection' the 'I' is someone called 'Haruki Murakami'， who recalls writing poetry in a baseball stadium as his novel-writing career is taking off。 Is this memoir， or fiction？ The stories， in their way， all deal with memory and moments of a slight jarring of the 'real' world， which makes the characters look anew at their situation。 Sometimes bizarre， sometimes philosophical， the stories could only be written by Murakami。 His first-person characters are always male， and in at least a couple of the stories the narrator cannot even remember the woman's name。 And in 'Carnaval'， which looks at a short friendship between a man and a woman over their shared interest in music， she is described as being the ugliest woman he has ever met。 One would hope that Murakami is being self-ironic in his portrayal of these female characters， showing some self-awareness of previous criticism of his works， but it gets very close to being uncomfortable to read at times without thinking 'really， did you just say that？'OK， so it's Haruki Murakami， and you know what you are going to get。 And this delivers exactly what you would expect。 But。。。but。。。 this feels like a writer settling for what he does。 There is no attempt to challenge the boundaries， to be bold and daring， to create a new voice。 Indeed， often it feels like he is just recycling the same themes and ideas from his previous novels。 It has the sense of a writer looking back on his writing career， not looking forward。 Which is fine if you have a back catalogue like Murakami。 But we want more， we want new， not this stroll down the well-worn path。 As such， despite the quality of the writing， I couldn't get excited by it。 。。。more

Classic Murakami！ This was the perfect mix of magical realism which was realistic and believable enough to be read as literary masterpieces （like his work Norwegian Wood） but the right touch of magic to make each story shine and sparkle at the edges。 The first person is how I feel Murakami expresses himself best and these stories all take the narrative voice。 Common themes arise throughout and Murakami fans will not be disappointed。

Il Surrealismo magico evocativo sul quale Murakami ha basato la sua creatività narrativa，  in questo libro prende forma in una raccolta di otto racconti。 Otto storie scintillanti che esaltano la creatività surreale di Haruki e che condividono l'uso della voce in prima persona singolare。 Se le sue parole non bastano， questa volta ci ha consegnato una compilation， un assaggio inedito di straordinarietà， vista sempre dalla sua parte interiore un pò enigmatica。Il romanzo è condito da musica classica Il Surrealismo magico evocativo sul quale Murakami ha basato la sua creatività narrativa，  in questo libro prende forma in una raccolta di otto racconti。 Otto storie scintillanti che esaltano la creatività surreale di Haruki e che condividono l'uso della voce in prima persona singolare。 Se le sue parole non bastano， questa volta ci ha consegnato una compilation， un assaggio inedito di straordinarietà， vista sempre dalla sua parte interiore un pò enigmatica。Il romanzo è condito da musica classica， jazz， cocktail， baseball， animali parlanti， le relazioni passate e altre metafore uniche e divertenti， delicate e raffinate。 Racconti che scorrono tra realtà e irrealtà， tra vita quotidiana e vita straordinaria。Non c'è un tema centrale， i racconti sembrano essere pensati per il solo scopo di intrattenere il lettore che si porrà costantemente una sola domanda: " Cosa è vero e cosa non lo è？" Prima persona singolare mostra nuovamente la maestria dei suoi poteri narrativi in forma breve。 Per questo motivo ho deciso di inserirlo nel mio progetto #shortbutshockbooks Murakami ci consegna questa raccolta come se fosse una scatola con all'interno 8 cioccolatini tutti di sapori diversi。 Ce ne  sono di più buoni e di meno buoni ma tutti immancabilmente irresistibili。 Non importa cosa dicono le persone， non voglio vedere le recensioni altrui。 Io sono convinta che questo autore non sia adatto a tutti。 Leggendo Murakami mi sono abituata a non pormi troppe domande e cercare di assaporarne golosamente  il nettare della sua scrittura。Il piacere e la bellezza nel leggere Murakami non sta solo in ciò che dicono le parole， ma specialmente in come ti fanno sentire。 Haruki Murakami mi ha cambiato il concetto di  letteratura。Mi rendo conto che quando parlo di lui，  non riesco ad  essere molto obiettiva。 Il mio giudizio risente del mio amore per questo autore， ne sono assolutamente consapevole 😅。 Non riesco proprio ad essere imparziale。。 •Ogni anno aspetto pazientemente il Nobel della letteratura。 Per favore consegnartegli questo premio。。。。 se non se lo merita lui。。。 ！！•Ora bisogna toccare il tasto dolente。  Ve lo consiglio？ Io faccio sempre fatica a consigliare Murakami sebbene io amo la sua scrittura fresca ed evocativa。 Penso che Murakami sia un pò come Baricco， o lo ami o lo odi。•A me come sempre è piaciuto moltissimo， probabilmente non sarà tra le migliori opere di Murakami ma Io di suo leggerei anche la lista della spesa 🤣。 •Haruki come sempre : GRAZIE 🙏。 。。。more

Amo Murakami Haruki più di ogni altro perché quando leggo un suo libro non leggo mai una storia che alla fine avrei potuto vivere pure io ma leggo una storia incredibile ma che allo stesso tempo sembra credibile， una storia capace di farmi tornare un bimbo che si stupisce davanti alle bolle di sapone。 Qui invece non ci siamo e probabilmente la forma del racconto non aiuta。 Però penso che anche il tema portante non aiuti: un Murakami autobiografico， una volta tifoso di baseball， una volta alle pr Amo Murakami Haruki più di ogni altro perché quando leggo un suo libro non leggo mai una storia che alla fine avrei potuto vivere pure io ma leggo una storia incredibile ma che allo stesso tempo sembra credibile， una storia capace di farmi tornare un bimbo che si stupisce davanti alle bolle di sapone。 Qui invece non ci siamo e probabilmente la forma del racconto non aiuta。 Però penso che anche il tema portante non aiuti: un Murakami autobiografico， una volta tifoso di baseball， una volta alle prese con i primi amori， sicuramente per ciò che mi riguarda poco interessante。 Diciamo che la cifra stilistica non si discute ma diciamo anche un bel chi se ne frega。。。 。。。more

Meinung: Seit kurzem gibt es ein neues Werk von Murakami。 Auch wenn ich nicht alles von ihm gut finde， fasziniert mich der Autor。 Darum wollte ich es unbedingt lesen。Ich habe es nicht bereut， in dem Buch sind acht Kurzgeschichten enthalten und keine hat mich gelangweilt。 Keine war wie die andere， dennoch hatten alle dasselbe Thema。 Vergangenes， Erinnerungen， das Älterwerden。Wie man vom Titel schon erahnen kann， sind alle aus der Ich-Perspektive geschrieben。 Oft wird angedeutet， dass es sich wirk Meinung: Seit kurzem gibt es ein neues Werk von Murakami。 Auch wenn ich nicht alles von ihm gut finde， fasziniert mich der Autor。 Darum wollte ich es unbedingt lesen。Ich habe es nicht bereut， in dem Buch sind acht Kurzgeschichten enthalten und keine hat mich gelangweilt。 Keine war wie die andere， dennoch hatten alle dasselbe Thema。 Vergangenes， Erinnerungen， das Älterwerden。Wie man vom Titel schon erahnen kann， sind alle aus der Ich-Perspektive geschrieben。 Oft wird angedeutet， dass es sich wirklich um Erlebnisse des Autors handelt， ich glaube aber nicht， dass vieles davon sein Leben beschreibt。 Seine Gedanken und Sehnsüchte kann man aber durchaus manchmal erkennen。 Wie von Murakami gewohnt kann man kaum sagen， wo Fiktion anfängt und wo sie aufhört。Der Schreibstil ist sehr bildhaft und dadurch angenehm zu lesen。 Zugegeben: Ab und zu hat mich manches verwirrt。 Doch im Endeffekt hat mich jede Geschichte gepackt。 Ich konnte kaum glauben， dass es immer nur wenige Seiten waren。 Jede der Erzählungen fühlt sich an wie ein 200 Seiten Buch – auf sehr positive Weise。Ich würde empfehlen， die Geschichten einzeln zu lesen und nicht in einem Rutsch。 Man braucht definitiv etwas Zeit zwischendurch， um das Gelesene zu verarbeiten。Fazit: Wieder einmal ein gelungenes Werk des Autors。 Acht Mal bekommt man die Chance in die wunderbaren Texte von Murakami abzutauchen und ich wollte kein einziges mal wieder auftauchen。 。。。more
