What does the company want to play up? What is it truly selling? How does the company want to present itself in the market?- When presenting, don't show all your ideas。 There will inevitably be poor ones in the mix, and the chance of a client picking a poor one is there。 On average, professional pitches present three ideas- From the outset, clarify that you retain the right to use all designs in your portfolio。 When agencies subcontract work to self employed designers, they may want the agreement to remain confidential barring you from using the design in your portfolio- A logo doesn't need to show what a company does- Ensure your logo looks good upside down ad well- A worthy goal in any identity project is to give your client the ability to remove the logo from marketing material and still have the onlooker identify the brand- When presenting, briefly restate the project background。 Remember that you are selling the idea of your designs at early stages, not the intricacies of the design or choice of typeface 。。。more

Very cool and practical handbook。

Great advice for designers!

A book about Logo design might seem a bit niche, but the concepts in it are about simplicity, clarity, congruence, timelessness and communication。 I found it totally engaging and thought provoking。 Internally I was reading it through the less of Learning Design and found it had "lots of juice for not much squeeze"。 A book about Logo design might seem a bit niche, but the concepts in it are about simplicity, clarity, congruence, timelessness and communication。 I found it totally engaging and thought provoking。 Internally I was reading it through the less of Learning Design and found it had "lots of juice for not much squeeze"。 。。。more

The book covers all the design aspects that go into creating a logo or the beginnings of a corporate identity。I found it very pleasant and useful。 Really liked the examples of mistakes the autor made at the beginning of his career, I appreciate that as a great learning experience for others。 Would love to see even more details on the creation process。

Really lovely intro to logo design。 Thorough, well thought out, great examples。 Good read for folks at any stage of design career just for the examples if you haven't seen them, but mostly beginners。 Really lovely intro to logo design。 Thorough, well thought out, great examples。 Good read for folks at any stage of design career just for the examples if you haven't seen them, but mostly beginners。 。。。more

Brushing up on a lot of already known knowledge。 The cases were mostly new and interesting。 No technical aspects, more how to think when designing unique logos and in some extent brand identity。 It also has useful tips and tricks to prevent tricky situations。 And how to think when thinks don't work out as planned。 Brushing up on a lot of already known knowledge。 The cases were mostly new and interesting。 No technical aspects, more how to think when designing unique logos and in some extent brand identity。 It also has useful tips and tricks to prevent tricky situations。 And how to think when thinks don't work out as planned。 。。。more

I'm not a graphic designer, but David Airey book was easy for me to read and understand (even though i read it in Polish)。 In my opinion, it's a good read for wannabe designers and also people who closely work with designers to get a better feel of what stands behind the logo creation, how the process looks of creation looks like and how to be successful in creating logos。 I'm not a graphic designer, but David Airey book was easy for me to read and understand (even though i read it in Polish)。 In my opinion, it's a good read for wannabe designers and also people who closely work with designers to get a better feel of what stands behind the logo creation, how the process looks of creation looks like and how to be successful in creating logos。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book, the guidelines for creating brand identities are super helpful。 It also answered so many questions I had about working as a freelance designer, client feedback, staying motivated, etc。 Everything was very relatable and applicable!

Overall, the book is informative about processes of how to deal with clients, run creative process, etc。 However, it lacks some general tips about the artistic side of logo creation。 Even though the lifestyle suggestions seem applicable, many of them are obvious。

Tremendous resource on design process。 David Airey approaches the subject from all angles with general advice, how-tos, things to watch out for, Q&A, and poignant case studies that create a behind-the-scenes look for the reader。 Gladly adopting this book as a required resource for my Graphic Design courses。

Short and snappy and an easy read。 If you've gone through design school or built brand identities for clients, you may not learn a lot of new information (beyond how hard it is to come up with a truly clever concept!), but it's a good refresher if you're a bit rusty, and the examples make for good inspiration。 Short and snappy and an easy read。 If you've gone through design school or built brand identities for clients, you may not learn a lot of new information (beyond how hard it is to come up with a truly clever concept!), but it's a good refresher if you're a bit rusty, and the examples make for good inspiration。 。。。more

Not just logo design, great identity design bookI was really pleased with how extensive this book is on the identity design process, without being over-complicated or feeling the need to over-explain itself。 Not just an explanation of logo design, it includes a succinct analysis of and process for creating a brand identity for clients, as well as great professional guidance for working with clients。
