This is a beautiful poetry collection。 Written as the world went into lockdown, this feels like opening a time capsule。 It took me right back to the feelings, fears and challenges from the beginning of the pandemic and throughout the past year。 But I also relived the moments of resilence, hope and light。 The titles of a few of my faves:~ 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 2020~ 𝘐 𝘞𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘞𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘗𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴~ 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 ~ 2020 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘹~ 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭 ~ 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘶𝘴 ~ 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘛𝘩 This is a beautiful poetry collection。 Written as the world went into lockdown, this feels like opening a time capsule。 It took me right back to the feelings, fears and challenges from the beginning of the pandemic and throughout the past year。 But I also relived the moments of resilence, hope and light。 The titles of a few of my faves:~ 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 2020~ 𝘐 𝘞𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘞𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘗𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴~ 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 ~ 2020 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘹~ 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭 ~ 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘶𝘴 ~ 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 Thank you @hachettebooks for the review copy。 。。。more

Beautiful poems accompanied by lovely art。 This book is definitely something I will be coming back to again and again。 I will say I didn’t realize how much of the book was going to be based off how 2020 and covid affected us。 I wasn’t quite ready to face that。 But overall it was a beautiful book

Where Hope Comes From: Poems of Resilience, Healing, and Light is an outstanding collection of poems which were written after the world went into lockdown as a result of the Corona virus pandemic。 The author poignantly speaks of isolation, anxiety, loneliness, fear, and all the other emotions that we have felt during this most difficult and trying time。 Yet she also speaks of resilience, strength, our ability to rise up and be better for our struggles, reminding us that this too shall pass, life Where Hope Comes From: Poems of Resilience, Healing, and Light is an outstanding collection of poems which were written after the world went into lockdown as a result of the Corona virus pandemic。 The author poignantly speaks of isolation, anxiety, loneliness, fear, and all the other emotions that we have felt during this most difficult and trying time。 Yet she also speaks of resilience, strength, our ability to rise up and be better for our struggles, reminding us that this too shall pass, life does go on, and there is much to be celebrated with each moment, each day。 Reading this gave me a breath of fresh air and perspective that I so very much needed! After one full year of the pandemic and social distancing, these are the kind of comforting words we all need right now。 Who knew that during the pandemic I would find a new love for poetry。 This is going in my favorites stack。 Make sure you check out the authors Instagram account。 Empowering and hopeful, I look forward to reading more from Gill。 She’s a bright light。 ⭐️

This collection was marketed as being inspiring in a time of need, however I felt the despair and grief stronger than the message of hope。

I haven’t read Nikita Gill’s poetry before, but I will definitely read more in the future。 It’s clear and simple, and this collection in particular perfectly captures the universal loneliness and pain and strange beauty of 2020。

It is what it says on the tin。 I’m glad for anyone this book has helped in any way as reviews seem overall positive but to me it just comes across as somewhat trite and just doesn’t quite hit the emotional spot, personally。 Also I really don’t like the trend of using word definitions in poetry。 That being said I did appreciate the overall positive energy and the lovely art。

This book helps you focus on the light within you, even during the desperate times during the pandemic, through the vastness of the universe and the power of hope。 It is truth enveloped in tenderness and shared as an offering for the communal strength across borders。

This poetry collection was great。 I was initially nervous to read this as the majority of poems are directly linked to the pandemic, and I wasn't sure that I wanted to consume more media related to the pandemic。 However, I found the poems to be poignant, relatable and inspiring。 I enjoyed the majority of the poems, and appreciated some of the affirmations。 I also really loved the illustrations that were placed throughout the collection; they were beautiful and tied nicely to their respective poe This poetry collection was great。 I was initially nervous to read this as the majority of poems are directly linked to the pandemic, and I wasn't sure that I wanted to consume more media related to the pandemic。 However, I found the poems to be poignant, relatable and inspiring。 I enjoyed the majority of the poems, and appreciated some of the affirmations。 I also really loved the illustrations that were placed throughout the collection; they were beautiful and tied nicely to their respective poems。 Some of the poems really hit me hard, and I loved the imagery and theme of stars/constellations/the sky。 I felt like each poem was crafted with intent, and I can see myself going back and re-reading some of the poems again and again。 My favourites in this collection:- No Accidents- The Answer- Stay- I Wonder What They Would Put in a Museum for Our Times- After the First Death - In Self-quarantine, Watching my Cat from my Bedroom Window- Notes on Survival- Small- The Present- 2020 Redux- In Isolation- Affirmation for Days of Self-Loathing- Reminder for Days of Uncertainty - Listening to the Rain at the End of the World- Kindness- 93 Percent Stardust (might be my favourite)- Where Hope Comes From* Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

I already loved Nikota Gill's poetry and style prior to this book, but her unique voice put into words how this entire pandemic year has felt。 She reminds us that it's okay to grieve, and that surviving is an act of hope。 After a year where I've been completely unable to do more than exist from day to day, this collection is a balm for my heavy heart。 I already loved Nikota Gill's poetry and style prior to this book, but her unique voice put into words how this entire pandemic year has felt。 She reminds us that it's okay to grieve, and that surviving is an act of hope。 After a year where I've been completely unable to do more than exist from day to day, this collection is a balm for my heavy heart。 。。。more

Nikita Gill has been one of my favorite contemporary poets since I stumbled across her collection Fierce Fairy Tales several years ago。 Where Hope Comes From is her collection of poems written during the pandemic that captures the struggles of loneliness and sense of loss, but also the pervasive hope that keeps us going。The structure of the book is woven around the lifecycle of a star to split the poems into sections。 I thought that was an interesting way to structure it, though I didn't conscio Nikita Gill has been one of my favorite contemporary poets since I stumbled across her collection Fierce Fairy Tales several years ago。 Where Hope Comes From is her collection of poems written during the pandemic that captures the struggles of loneliness and sense of loss, but also the pervasive hope that keeps us going。The structure of the book is woven around the lifecycle of a star to split the poems into sections。 I thought that was an interesting way to structure it, though I didn't consciously take much note of the way each section of poems were connected。 I enjoyed the series of mantras and the fact that they were well spaced throughout the book also to avoid them becoming repetitive。The poems included in this collection painted an accurate and lyrical portrayal of life in lockdown and put into words many of the emotions and circumstances I've personally experienced during the pandemic。 While I sometimes find pandemic reflections tiresome at this point in time, these were quite the opposite。 Gill manages to capture the dark feelings she experiences in a way that is relatable and does not feel self-pitying。 Her words also encourage the reader to remain hopeful in a way that is approachable without being patronizing。I found this best to dip into for a few minutes throughout the day。 I've already revisited several of the passages I bookmarked on days I needed extra encouragement and I can't wait until this is released in the US so I can get my hands on a physical copy。Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Books a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Your soul is a river")。 。。。more

*Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the arc of this book*Nikita Gill’s voice is as strong as ever in this collection that is essential reading during the coronavirus pandemic。 Gill manages to capture both the pain and hidden beauty and value of connection during these lockdowns, focusing on the power of human connection and how it perseveres despite an illness that demands we stay apart。

Absolutely LOVE Nikita Gill and this gorgeous collection of poetry。 After 2020 And the beginning of 2021 being so challenging, a book of hope is what we all need。 HIGHLY recommend!

A collection of poems the author wrote during the Coronavirus pandemic。 Loneliness and hope weave themselves into almost every line。 Touches of astrology remind the reader how grand the world works and that beauty comes from tragic or grand experiences。 I’d recommend this collection to any who find themselves struggling or have struggled with the loneliness the pandemic has caused。 However, if you need distance from Covid-19 discussions then you may not enjoy this collection at this time。

I honestly wasn’t ready to read a book about the pandemic, since we are still so deep in it。 I feel like this was published and written a bit prematurely。 I’m not ready to reflect when my country is still in lockdown!

I am a long-time Nikita Gill fan, and so any time she has a new poetry collection I am DOWN。 I was very excited to receive an ARC of Where Hope Comes From from NetGalley because I honestly needed Gill's poetry to just help me get through the day。 Where Hope Comes From: Poems of Resilience, Healing, and Light might be Gill's best collection yet。 During the quarantine and the ongoing pandemic, I've been reading a lot of poetry because that's where I find my comfort。 Many of the collections I've r I am a long-time Nikita Gill fan, and so any time she has a new poetry collection I am DOWN。 I was very excited to receive an ARC of Where Hope Comes From from NetGalley because I honestly needed Gill's poetry to just help me get through the day。 Where Hope Comes From: Poems of Resilience, Healing, and Light might be Gill's best collection yet。 During the quarantine and the ongoing pandemic, I've been reading a lot of poetry because that's where I find my comfort。 Many of the collections I've read have been good (and some haven't been), but Where Hope Comes From is the collection that feels most of the moment。 Gill is one of the few poets (and probably the best) writing about what it's like to be alive right now amongst the pandemic: how we're all dealing with depression, loneliness and the inability to socialize, the inability to properly grief and bury our dead。。。 She writes about these subjects with a lot of empathy and isn't afraid to ask questions to which she doesn't offer answers because no one can。 I also enjoyed how she wrote about the pandemic in perspective to history and how societies have dealt with and come back from pandemic times。 If you need a poetry pick me up right now, you really can't go wrong with Nikita Gill。 Where Hope Comes From is fantastic, and I highly recommend it! 。。。more

I've been a fan on Nikita Gill's poetry for awhile now and this collection is lovely。 Where Hope Comes From contains inspirational poems about finding light in the darkness and hope in times of sadness。 There are several beautiful poems revolving around the pandemic, anxiety, depression, feeling trapped and similar themes。 The poems have messages of never giving up, finding your inner strength, seeing the positives during times of struggles, and the beauty that come from the darkness itself。 I h I've been a fan on Nikita Gill's poetry for awhile now and this collection is lovely。 Where Hope Comes From contains inspirational poems about finding light in the darkness and hope in times of sadness。 There are several beautiful poems revolving around the pandemic, anxiety, depression, feeling trapped and similar themes。 The poems have messages of never giving up, finding your inner strength, seeing the positives during times of struggles, and the beauty that come from the darkness itself。 I highly recommend reading this collection of poetry。 。。。more

3。5 starsNikita Gill is one of my favorite poets, and I'm always excited to read another collection by her! This one revolves around poetry that describes what we've all lived through in the past year with the pandemic and lockdown。 Some parts were hopeful, but at times, it can be hard to read about the pandemic while we're still living in it。 3。5 starsNikita Gill is one of my favorite poets, and I'm always excited to read another collection by her! I'm a huge fan of Gill's "Fierce Fairytales" collection, so I was excited to read this one。 This is an incredibly timely collection that focuses a lot on the current pandemic and the pain and emotions surrounding it。 Gill also includes poems about news events like George Floyd's death and the ensuing protests for racial equality。 I thought the variety of content was great - focused enough to feel cohesive, but broad enough that it didn't ever feel boring。 There weren't any poems that I wanted to I'm a huge fan of Gill's "Fierce Fairytales" collection, so I was excited to read this one。 This is an incredibly timely collection that focuses a lot on the current pandemic and the pain and emotions surrounding it。 Gill also includes poems about news events like George Floyd's death and the ensuing protests for racial equality。 I thought the variety of content was great - focused enough to feel cohesive, but broad enough that it didn't ever feel boring。 There weren't any poems that I wanted to screenshot and save, so I can't give it 5 stars。 But Gill is a beautiful writer who knows how to tap into despair in a really captivating and moving way。 I'll definitely be checking out her future collections。*Free ARC provided by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review* 。。。more

With her previous books, Nikita Gill has firmly claimed herself the place of my favourite poet, so when I heard she was releasing another book of poetry, Where Hope Comes From, about living during the coronavirus pandemic, I knew I had to have it。 And while I adore Gill's poetry and have been so moved before, I didn't realise just how hard her latest offering would hit。We're not yet on the otherside of this pandemic, we've not yet made our way through that tunnel, so Where Hope Comes From really With her previous books, Nikita Gill has firmly claimed herself the place of my favourite poet, so when I heard she was releasing another book of poetry, Where Hope Comes From, about living during the coronavirus pandemic, I knew I had to have it。 And while I adore Gill's poetry and have been so moved before, I didn't realise just how hard her latest offering would hit。We're not yet on the otherside of this pandemic, we've not yet made our way through that tunnel, so Where Hope Comes From really effected me。 My mental health has taken a number of hits over the past 11 months, and the grief has been so heavy。 So reading this book brought everything - which is only really just below the surface, really - right back。 Still stuck in this quagmire, Where Hope Comes From is at times really difficult to read, with poem after poem like a sucker punch。 But there's something beautiful about someone being able to say what you can't find the words for, and in seeing you're not alone in what you're feeling and experiencing - a theme of the book itself。 It's such a personal book in how Gill lays herself bare in talking about the difficulties she experienced through living in a pandemic, but those experiences are experienced by all, and so it's personal to us all。But, as the title suggests, it's also a book of hope。 It's a book of believing there is a way to the otherside, of coming out of this and living life as we once did。 It's a book that reminds you of the importance of all the things you took for granted before, of friendship and community and love, but it also reminds you of the things you once thought important but aren't at all。 It's a book of new perspectives, or hardship and opened eyes, and how hope can give you the strength and the resilience to keep on going。 It's astoundingly beautiful, and achingly raw。While reading Where Hope Comes From, I was reminded very strongly of being back at school and reading the poems of Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, of how their poems written in the trenches during the First World War are studied today to teach us not just about poetry, but about a very specfic period in time, and the experience of those soldiers。 I strongly believe Where Hope Comes From will be Gill's equivalent in years to come, of living through the pandemic。 She's captured this period of time in poetry, and long after we're all dead, Where Hope Comes From will be there, showing future generations what it was like。 She's immortalised this time in history, and I feel because of this, it might just be her most important work yet。 。。。more
