Summary

From our first breath to our last, we spend our entire lives in a perpetual cycle of inhalations and exhalations。 Yet few of us are taught how to breathe, why we breathe, or the ways in which the breath influences us emotionally, energetically, physically, and spiritually。

The Illuminated Breath is a revolutionary manual on unlocking the power of the breath。 With humor, clarity, and an appreciation for the art of storytelling, revered yoga practitioner Dylan Werner delves into the rich histories of breathing techniques and breath work, while validating these practices with a strong lean toward physiology and science。 Using enlightening, practical examples from everyday life, Werner explains how energy flows through the body and how the breath can be used to regulate and control that flow。 He walks readers through pranayama, the ancient yogic practice of breath control, and explains the four components of the breath cycle。 He then introduces pranayama practices, which can be used on their own or combined into sequences to achieve specific goals。

The final part of this book leads readers through a series of targeted breath sequences that are designed to boost athletic performance and recovery, improve sleep, enhance cognitive function, relieve anxiety, promote deep relaxation, and more。 Each sequence is customizable and can be modified or used in combination with other sequences to create a personalized breath plan。 Embark on a life-changing journey as you learn how to breathe optimally and bring balance to your life, one inhalation and exhalation at a time。

5 Stars, loved it! Android Goodreads app will only allow one star to be chosen。 Was like this a month ago。。。 Hope they fix this soon。 When I access my review on my profile page, I am able to adjust the stars。。。 But not when I originally review a book。

I mean, dinosaurs and Ian Malcolm。 What's not to love? But seriously, this was fantastic and I will definitely re-read it in the near future。 I mean, dinosaurs and Ian Malcolm。 What's not to love? But seriously, this was fantastic and I will definitely re-read it in the near future。 。。。more

Viewing Jurassic Park was awesome, reading。。。 I think it might have been even better! All of the visuals aids in the book are really cool and really help in understanding what is happening on the island。 If you are a fan of the movie, please, read the book that inspired it。 It is amazing!

Idk what to say, it’s fun to read。 Written like a screen play, and would be a fun beach read。

Hate to say it, but better than the movie。

You all know the plot, but the book (as is usually the case) is far superior to the film。 Crichton's exploration of scientists working without considering potential consequences is a bit forced--the best way to illustrate the potential dangers posed by dinosaurs coexisting with mankind is to set up this domino line: First, make sure you have visitors rating the experiment; Second, ensure power goes out and that sabotage is going to occur at the same time; Third, dinosaurs get out and wreak havoc You all know the plot, but the book (as is usually the case) is far superior to the film。 Crichton's exploration of scientists working without considering potential consequences is a bit forced--the best way to illustrate the potential dangers posed by dinosaurs coexisting with mankind is to set up this domino line: First, make sure you have visitors rating the experiment; Second, ensure power goes out and that sabotage is going to occur at the same time; Third, dinosaurs get out and wreak havoc。 This is a string of largely improbable events。 Realistically, the site would have been evaluated and opened and then one errant tourist would have wandered where he shouldn't。But this does not detract from the work being thrilling。 Novel is captivating and more satisfying than the Speilberg film。 。。。more

An excellent book with a fast paced plot, excellent characterisation and plenty of moments of tension。I read this book after watching the film。 I enjoyed both and was delighted when the book has similarities and differences。

Surprisingly different from the movie, and not just in terms of a more developed story and characters, actually some extra plot points

This book was mostly a cover buy。 I mean, JUST LOOK AT IT <3But I really liked it。 It isn't written as the books I usually read。 Much more scientific。 But it was still easy to follow for this nitwit。 But it is clear it is entirely focussed on the message en the scientific parts。 There are several charachters, but there is no character building what-so-ever。 Didn't miss it though。 It was thrilling and spend most of the book on the edge of my seat。 This is really a story which keeps you thinking a This book was mostly a cover buy。 I mean, JUST LOOK AT IT <3But I really liked it。 It isn't written as the books I usually read。 Much more scientific。 But it was still easy to follow for this nitwit。 But it is clear it is entirely focussed on the message en the scientific parts。 There are several charachters, but there is no character building what-so-ever。 Didn't miss it though。 It was thrilling and spend most of the book on the edge of my seat。 This is really a story which keeps you thinking about the possibilities what and mostly if we should try to achieve everything。 。。。more

Fun to read but a rare case where the movie is far superior。

Life-changer! This book propelled me to take up the study of Complex Adaptive Systems in Sweden, enamored by the personality of Ian Malcolm。 Read it when back in school but heard the audio book and read it again 。。。

More a 3。5 than a solid 3。In some aspects very different from the movie and it lacked the atmosphere。 Also, Malcolm is by far more preachy than he is in the movie。 Thank God for Goldblum。Verdict: kids will get you killed。

Very entertaining。 The only thing I didn't like us that women in this book are either barely there and quiet, or tremendously annoying。 Very entertaining。 The only thing I didn't like us that women in this book are either barely there and quiet, or tremendously annoying。 。。。more

Read it multiple times as a nine/ten year old child and was absolutely obsessed with it。 Haven't read it since though so I don't really know how it holds up so I only gave it four stars。 Read it multiple times as a nine/ten year old child and was absolutely obsessed with it。 Haven't read it since though so I don't really know how it holds up so I only gave it four stars。 。。。more

Trigger warning: children

Danny Matson

It had an excellent start and was a real page-turner until about the halfway mark。 Then I realized the negative effect of having too many paper-thin characters (personality-less men, in particular)。 I couldn't get invested in their fate, which drained the tension out of the situation (otherwise quite dire)。 Even the main character and the two kids were extremely underdeveloped。 The highlights of the book are the opening tension-building, the initial T-Rex attack, Malcolm's scientific talks, all It had an excellent start and was a real page-turner until about the halfway mark。 Then I realized the negative effect of having too many paper-thin characters (personality-less men, in particular)。 I couldn't get invested in their fate, which drained the tension out of the situation (otherwise quite dire)。 Even the main character and the two kids were extremely underdeveloped。 The highlights of the book are the opening tension-building, the initial T-Rex attack, Malcolm's scientific talks, all dinosaur-related educational talk, and a couple of choice character death scenes。 Otherwise all of the movements throughout the park dodging dinosaurs and the control-room nonsense was pretty boring。 As my first Crichton book, I can't say I'm too impressed with his writing style or character development skills。 It's a borderline two-star book for me but because it was easy to read and for the concept alone, I will give it three。 Yes, the movie is better。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this。 The start was agonizingly slow but quickly picked up after all the characters were on the island。 This was a fantastic throwback to my love of dinosaurs and the glee I had watching the movies that were produced in my teens。 I was not disappointed with the book at all。 I know a lot of the science was factually wrong, but omg the enjoyment level of this read was absolutely a 5 star for me。 I will be 100% continuing the series later on and am very very happy to finally having I really enjoyed this。 The start was agonizingly slow but quickly picked up after all the characters were on the island。 This was a fantastic throwback to my love of dinosaurs and the glee I had watching the movies that were produced in my teens。 I was not disappointed with the book at all。 I know a lot of the science was factually wrong, but omg the enjoyment level of this read was absolutely a 5 star for me。 I will be 100% continuing the series later on and am very very happy to finally having gotten around to reading this one。 SO MUCH MORE DEPTH。 。。。more

I assume everyone knows the plot of this story by now but that is not an excuse to skimp on this book because it is a gem。 It's very sciencey but in a fun way that's not like "oh look at me I can science。" However, you can probably do this to your friends if that's your thing。 I assume everyone knows the plot of this story by now but that is not an excuse to skimp on this book because it is a gem。 It's very sciencey but in a fun way that's not like "oh look at me I can science。" However, you can probably do this to your friends if that's your thing。 。。。more

5+ out of 5。 Fucking fantastic。 Still packs all the punch it did when I first read it as a kid in the late 90s。 Nobody ever did it better。
