Summary

Return to the world of the Farseers。。。Robin Hobb's best loved characters, Fitz , The Fool and Nighteyes the wolf, face new adventures and trials in the first book of The Tawny Man trilogy。 When Assassin's Quest closed, Fitz was living in self-imposed exile。 Wracked with pain, he had chosen to discard the magical gifts that had seen him survive the wonders and torments of navigating the legendary city of the Elderlings, and of raising a dragon。 Now, in this the first of a new trilogy, we are returned to the world of the Six Duchies and the lives of those who managed to survive the events of the first Assassin trilogy。 Fifteen years have passed and events are about to sweep Fitz out of his quiet backwater life and into the main political current again。 Persecution of the Witted has become rampant throughout the Six Duchies despite Queen Kettricken's effort to damp it。 The Witted themselves have begun to strike back。 So when 15 year old Prince Dutiful disappears, is it only because he is nervous about his betrothal ceremony to an Outislander princess, or has he been taken hostage by the Witted? Worse, is he perhaps another 'Piebald Prince', a Farseer tainted by Wit magic? As the desperate situation worsens, Kettricken has no choice but to summon Fitz to Buckkeep, for who better to track the young prince down than another gifted with the Wit, together with his bonded companion, the wolf Nighteyes?

Ha ha ha。。。 well it is a bit slow to start。 Hobb basically has to unpick Fitz from the state she left him in the last trilogy so it is fair。 Still, a bit slow。 The book goes in an interesting direction and having read the second (which was inevitable given this one) I don't have any regrets reading it。To be honest, I think I'm enjoying this trilogy more than the first so far。 Fitz is a more developed character and doesn't have that 'reader-insert' feel any more。 You know with dread when he is go Ha ha ha。。。 well it is a bit slow to start。 Hobb basically has to unpick Fitz from the state she left him in the last trilogy so it is fair。 Still, a bit slow。 The book goes in an interesting direction and having read the second (which was inevitable given this one) I don't have any regrets reading it。To be honest, I think I'm enjoying this trilogy more than the first so far。 Fitz is a more developed character and doesn't have that 'reader-insert' feel any more。 You know with dread when he is going to do something stupid and Hobb is great at throwing his 'principles' against 'common sense' to disastrous results。 。。。more

Brilliant book, fantasy writing at its best。

It’s really good。 While not be as deep as royal assassin it’s very well paced, with me never getting bored or distracted like I did with assassins quest and the liveship traders。

I thoroughly enjoy the Fools books。 Exciting。 Intriguing。 Enchanting。

Exploring themes of belonging, loss, and acceptance, the first entry in the Tawny Man trilogy excels at developing characters you come to love。 You grow with them, mourn with them, and celebrate their victories with them。This is fantasy at its peak, an exploration of humanity through a fantastical lens。 This book broke my heart in ways that few books ever have。 I am excited at what Hobb has in store for me next。

True to Hobb fashion, the novel starts slowly, spending alot of time with Fitz and Nighteyes in their new humble life。 Yet, here I liked that Hobb took this time, because it allowed us to really get into Fitz as he is now, and not as we left him last。 This was such a great reintroduction to the characters and world Hobb had so brilliantly created with her first trilogy。 I love the chemistry between Fitz and the Fool that was truly established in the last book, and took center stage here。 It real True to Hobb fashion, the novel starts slowly, spending alot of time with Fitz and Nighteyes in their new humble life。 Yet, here I liked that Hobb took this time, because it allowed us to really get into Fitz as he is now, and not as we left him last。 This was such a great reintroduction to the characters and world Hobb had so brilliantly created with her first trilogy。 I love the chemistry between Fitz and the Fool that was truly established in the last book, and took center stage here。 It really created a dynamic and fun fantasy read。The other element that really had me hooked was the focus on the Wit over Skill。 In the previous trilogy the Skill took more of the focus, and while the Wit was there, less time and information was provided for it。 And here, with Fools Errand, the Wit gets more depth and focus。Hobb is such a fantastic writer, and this book was one of her best。 。。。more

Having finished the Farseer trilogy I decided that my heart needed a rest from all the emotions it stirred。 Now that I finished the first book of this trilogy I am reminded as to why。 When my boyfriend asks me why I read something that makes me so sad, I struggle to explain the beauty of this sadness。 I love Robin Hobb's writing, I love the way she makes me want to keep reading, so I can keep crying, laughing, loving and hating with her characters。 I just love it。 Having finished the Farseer trilogy I decided that my heart needed a rest from all the emotions it stirred。 Now that I finished the first book of this trilogy I am reminded as to why。 When my boyfriend asks me why I read something that makes me so sad, I struggle to explain the beauty of this sadness。 I love Robin Hobb's writing, I love the way she makes me want to keep reading, so I can keep crying, laughing, loving and hating with her characters。 I just love it。 。。。more

This book is everything that more than what I could have hoped for from a sequel to the Farseer Trilogy。 Robin Hobb somehow gets even better。 For those who had a hard time with #3, Assassin's Quest of the Farseer Trilogy, let me just say that if you stop there in Fitz's journey, ya done messed up。On the topic of Fitz, I noticed a different personality from the previous trilogy。 He seems a little more impatient, and at times, the book seems a little bit darker。 Fitz seems closer to anger than he This book is everything that more than what I could have hoped for from a sequel to the Farseer Trilogy。 Robin Hobb somehow gets even better。 For those who had a hard time with #3, Assassin's Quest of the Farseer Trilogy, let me just say that if you stop there in Fitz's journey, ya done messed up。On the topic of Fitz, I noticed a different personality from the previous trilogy。 He seems a little more impatient, and at times, the book seems a little bit darker。 Fitz seems closer to anger than he did in the past。 I think this is an ingenious addition from the author。 After all, this book takes place 15 years after the conclusion of Assassin's Quest。 Fitz is older, and he has been living like a hermit。 I think the change in personality is natural。Similar to Hobb's previous installments in the Realm of the Elderlings, this book has a slow build with minimal action (not necessarily true of Liveship Traders) but ALL the necessary character development to keep you hooked。 That being said, I didn't notice any pacing issues which are occasionally present in some of Hobb's works。A lot of world-building is further fleshed out with Hobb going into more detail about the Wit, connections being made to the lands in the Liveship Traders Trilogy, and socio-political dynamics being established。Honestly, I wish I could write a better review, but I just can't stop thinking about the book。 I think Hobb wrote it perfectly。 That doesn't mean that there isn't the usual heartache that comes from reading Fitz's story, but I think Hobb captures both the beauty and pain, translating the story into a cathartic experience。 。。。more

Well, this was lovely and painful and bittersweet in a lot of really moving ways。 I always love it when characters are given room to age and to change and this book took full advantage of that。 It's full of bittersweet reunions and fresh starts and that lurching feeling when you return back home to find that everything has changed。 I really enjoyed the Liveship books and it was a little odd to get stuffed back into a single POV after the sprawling narration of that trilogy, but coming home to Fi Well, this was lovely and painful and bittersweet in a lot of really moving ways。 I always love it when characters are given room to age and to change and this book took full advantage of that。 It's full of bittersweet reunions and fresh starts and that lurching feeling when you return back home to find that everything has changed。 I really enjoyed the Liveship books and it was a little odd to get stuffed back into a single POV after the sprawling narration of that trilogy, but coming home to Fitz felt good。 I was ecstatic when The Fool showed up and I loved how the author managed to mirror Fitz's nostalgia and trepidation with the reader's feeling of being slightly off-balance and needing to catch up。 I actually really prefer Fitz as this older character as well。 He takes things less personally and flies off the handle a lot less frequently。 This book really takes full advantage in being a book within a trilogy within a series of trilogies。 It let's the plot of the books before it feel like a solid weight of real time and the characters have changed under it。 Really well-written and emotional。 。。。more
