Summary

Fitz is about to discover the truth about the Fool's prophecy。
Having been resurected from his fatal tortures in Regal's dungeons, Fitz has once more foiled the Prince's attempts to be rid of him。

Now, restored to his own body, Fitz begins the painful, slow process of learning to be a man again。 He must learn to cast off the wild ways of the wolf and return to the human world: a world beset ever more by the relentless Red Ships Raiders who are now free to plunder any coastal town they please。 But more immediately, a world in which Fitz finds he is utterly alone。

Regal has stripped the kingdom of its riches and retired to the inland city of Tradeford。 Of Verity, on his quest to find the legendary Elderlings, there has been no word; Molly, Kettricken and the Fool have all vanished。
Unless Fitz can find Verity and help him in his quest, the Six Duchies will perish and there will be no safe place to live。

What an absolutely awful ending to a very promising start。 The only interesting thing about this book is nighteyes and why it doesn't get 1 star。 So many things about this book (and series as a whole) infuriate me。 Like why do these books even have assassin in the title。 I'm not sure there was even a single assassination。 This 757 page book could have easily told the same exact story with 300 pages or less if there was less talk about making tea。 The entire red ship raiders storyline that builds What an absolutely awful ending to a very promising start。 The only interesting thing about this book is nighteyes and why it doesn't get 1 star。 So many things about this book (and series as a whole) infuriate me。 Like why do these books even have assassin in the title。 I'm not sure there was even a single assassination。 This 757 page book could have easily told the same exact story with 300 pages or less if there was less talk about making tea。 The entire red ship raiders storyline that builds throughout the trilogy is wrapped up in less than a paragraph。 The ending is garpage。 The antagonists fate is garbage。 The "skill" half of the magic system is way to vague and characters often contradict themselves when talking about it or using it。 All of the interesting characters from the previous two books don't make an appearance in this one。 I can't believe how bad this book was after the really good ending of royal assassin。 A book hasn't made me this angry in a while haha。 。。。more

I'm struggling to put into words how I'm feeling about Assassin's Quest。 I am mostly disappointed that such a well loved series is so underwhelming for me。Pacing again is a big issue I have with Hobb's work so far。 This book absolutely did not need to be so long。 Almost the entire focus is on Fitz travelling alone with Nighteyes, but as Fitz is actually one of the least interesting characters in the series this doesn't make for interesting reading。 He's too self-absorbed, reflecting on what he's I'm struggling to put into words how I'm feeling about Assassin's Quest。 I am mostly disappointed that such a well loved series is so underwhelming for me。Pacing again is a big issue I have with Hobb's work so far。 This book absolutely did not need to be so long。 Almost the entire focus is on Fitz travelling alone with Nighteyes, but as Fitz is actually one of the least interesting characters in the series this doesn't make for interesting reading。 He's too self-absorbed, reflecting on what he's lost and not being able to do what he wants。 He doesn't set out to do anything, things just happen to him, and quite intermittently at that。It takes such a long time to get to the one significant sequence of events, right at the end of the book, that I thought that with so much left to wrap up it makes sense that this trilogy got a sequel to pick up some of those threads。 Instead, the story wraps everything up quickly and neatly in just a few chapters, which is disappointing for a 42 chapter book to have so much focus on a largely uninteresting journey and so little focus on the key plot points。The magic systems are again largely under explained to the reader。 This time we are shown some amazing potential of the Skill and to a lesser extent the Wit by Fitz travelling to the ruined Elderlings civilization, but he barely discovered anything to help aid my understanding other than that he knows nothing as usual。Overall I think I would rate Assassin's Quest a 3 star read and the Farseer Trilogy as a whole would probably be a 3。5。 My favourite book was Royal Assassin as the courty intruige and number of significant events/interacts made the pacing feel a lot better。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Brief thoughts:- my least favourite in the Farseer trilogy- some stuff (the Red Ships) didn't feel appropriately explored- some new characters I liked (Kettle/Kestrel, Starling)- the (eventual) return of some favourites (The Fool, Verity & Kettricken)- very little Burrich 😔- DRAGONS! 🙌🏻- very drawn out quest stuff - I get it, the book is called Assassin's Quest, but yeah 😏- the ending was good but some stuff was either glossed over (Red Ships) or rushed (Dragons)- I wanted Regal dead not compell Brief thoughts:- my least favourite in the Farseer trilogy- some stuff (the Red Ships) didn't feel appropriately explored- some new characters I liked (Kettle/Kestrel, Starling)- the (eventual) return of some favourites (The Fool, Verity & Kettricken)- very little Burrich 😔- DRAGONS! 🙌🏻- very drawn out quest stuff - I get it, the book is called Assassin's Quest, but yeah 😏- the ending was good but some stuff was either glossed over (Red Ships) or rushed (Dragons)- I wanted Regal dead not compelled。 Still glad he died, but I wanted a better death than death by rat。- still enjoyed it though, any other author would've lost me- the fact that Fitz is the narrator and for him this is very old news, makes the rushed, hindsight ending make more sense, but it's not ideal for the invested reader 😏 。。。more

Could not out book #3 down。 Could not out book #3 down。 A wonderful ending to a great trilogy。 I can’t wait to read her next works

Finally finished Assassin’s Quest after a few delays and this book just confirmed my love for Robin Hobb’s writing once again。 While there were times I thought it slightly dragged, I was in awe with just how much Hobb managed to fit into 838 pages。 I can’t wait to read more of this world。

Superb! The whole Farseer trilogy is the best piece of fantasy I’ve read in a long time。 Some people claim it’s depressing but I don’t understand that sentiment at all。 It’s anything but that!

The Fool is my favorite。 That is all。

A wonderfully satisfying end to a great trilogy。 All of Fitz’s hardships paid off in the end, and while the final moments were certainly bittersweet, they were far more sweet than bitter。 I will definitely be continuing with the rest of the Realm of the Elderlings’ series。 Robin Hobb’s prose, for me, is some of the best I’ve ever read。 I’ve never had a writer more fully be able to pull me into the world they’ve created。 I swear at many times it felt like I was there, watching things unfold first A wonderfully satisfying end to a great trilogy。 All of Fitz’s hardships paid off in the end, and while the final moments were certainly bittersweet, they were far more sweet than bitter。 I will definitely be continuing with the rest of the Realm of the Elderlings’ series。 Robin Hobb’s prose, for me, is some of the best I’ve ever read。 I’ve never had a writer more fully be able to pull me into the world they’ve created。 I swear at many times it felt like I was there, watching things unfold firsthand。 That, along with the great storytelling in this trilogy, has quickly catapulted Hobb to a high slot on my personal list of favorite authors。 。。。more

I found the story a bit slow in the beginning。 There were a lot of repetitions of events。 Apart from that, when the story got going, it really took off for me and too many good things were packed in too few pages。 I loved the revelations done for the Fool。 I really enjoyed all the scenes concerning him。 I also enjoyed the character of Kettricken and the strength that she showed。Even with the slow, I felt that I was invested in the story and that kept me going。 I liked the way a few things were t I found the story a bit slow in the beginning。 There were a lot of repetitions of events。 Apart from that, when the story got going, it really took off for me and too many good things were packed in too few pages。 I loved the revelations done for the Fool。 I really enjoyed all the scenes concerning him。 I also enjoyed the character of Kettricken and the strength that she showed。Even with the slow, I felt that I was invested in the story and that kept me going。 I liked the way a few things were tied up and then I didn't like some other。 (view spoiler)[(Burrich and Molly getting married wasn't something that I could swallow。 I think it was very much hinted at throughout the book and I was praying the whole that they don't end up together, which ultimately happened。) (hide spoiler)] However, the things that I liked in the book far outweigh the things that I dislike, and hence, I can say that I enjoyed this one。 。。。more

I would've given this book 5 stars, but the protagonist is a bit of an idiot。 A whiny idiot at that, which are two unexpected flaws in a king's assassin。 This is still a really good book though, and the best of the three。 In my experience, trilogies don't usually stick the landing, but this one did。 I would've given this book 5 stars, but the protagonist is a bit of an idiot。 A whiny idiot at that, which are two unexpected flaws in a king's assassin。 This is still a really good book though, and the best of the three。 In my experience, trilogies don't usually stick the landing, but this one did。 。。。more

This was, without a doubt, one of the best series I've ever read。 I cannot wait to explore more into the world Hobb has created。 The writing captivates you, and while it is definitely more lengthy at points then it needs to be, I never once felt bored or that it dragged。 The depth of the detail gripped me in a way more depth just makes me want to skim。 It was very well done。I will admit sometimes I really didn't like Fitz。 A lot of the time I wanted to slap the crap out of him。 Then he'd go and This was, without a doubt, one of the best series I've ever read。 I cannot wait to explore more into the world Hobb has created。 The writing captivates you, and while it is definitely more lengthy at points then it needs to be, I never once felt bored or that it dragged。 The depth of the detail gripped me in a way more depth just makes me want to skim。 It was very well done。I will admit sometimes I really didn't like Fitz。 A lot of the time I wanted to slap the crap out of him。 Then he'd go and do something that made me wanna squeeze him for trying his best。 Verity, Nighteyes, and the Fool are all wonderful and I love them。 。。。more

Fitz does 600 pages of navel-gazing and bemoaning life and leads to a very exciting final 80 pages。 The Fool character returns and has interesting moments。

*Score: 8。5/10*It is difficult to review this without spoilers, given its the last book in a trilogy, but to keep it general,I loved this trilogy a lot, and overall rate it as a 9/10 (book one 9, book two 9。5, and book three 8。5)As you can see the third book is my least favorite, though still highly rated in general。 It carried forward a lot of the strengths from first two books with the amazing writing and character depth and dialogue of Robin Hobb, but here some key character dynamics were not *Score: 8。5/10*It is difficult to review this without spoilers, given its the last book in a trilogy, but to keep it general,I loved this trilogy a lot, and overall rate it as a 9/10 (book one 9, book two 9。5, and book three 8。5)As you can see the third book is my least favorite, though still highly rated in general。 It carried forward a lot of the strengths from first two books with the amazing writing and character depth and dialogue of Robin Hobb, but here some key character dynamics were not present due to story requirements, which I really missed a lot (even though I loved the one prespective narrative chosen for this trilogy as opposed to multiple PoV, I think the last installment would have benefitted from multiple PoV a lot)。Also, while all 3 books are slow and deliberate in pacing, given book three is more of a "quest" type compared to the first two books which were more focused on the politics and character tensions, i think slow pacing here is more of an issue given a quest should move a bit faster, definitely this would have benefitted from shorter length。 With all that said, this has a really satisfying ending, and all key character arcs come to a really good conclusion。 I have also loved the stronger world building in this installment, with much more knowldege on the magic aspects。 Taking too long to get there is always better and more acceptable for me than getting too fast, if the writer is as talented as Robin Hobb to keep me engaged even when not much happens。 I dealy love all the characters, and have full visual imagery and outlook on each of them, and remember it like remembering scens from a show。 Hard for me to recommend this trilogy lightly, as it requires a very specific type of reader and a lot of patience。 However if you love slow burners with immense character depth, and want a more "literary" fantasy type of series, I can't recommend this enough。 I am so happy now that I have a lot more books to look forward to within the Realm of the Elderlings world, and maybe also other books / series by Robin Hobb。 。。。more

★★★★❝It was, after all, a time for heroes and all sorts of marvelous things to occur。❞(This review may contain spoilers for Assassin’s Apprentice and Royal Assassin。)Before reading this book, I knew it was a hit or miss for a lot of people。 For me it was definitely a hit! I can see why people wouldn’t be as into the story, but I really appreciated the direction it went in。Assassin’s Quest gave me what I was craving for two books: more magic! I can see why people wouldn’t be as into the story, but I really appreciated the direction it went in。Assassin’s Quest gave me what I was craving for two books: more magic! The Skill and the Wit are very prevalent in this story, and I enjoyed every bit of it。 I loved that we got to spend a lot of time with just Fitz and Nighteyes, it gave me a better understanding of the nature and the depth of their bond。I absolutely loved seeing Kettricken and the Fool again! Can we talk about how great of a character the Fool is? He’s such a good friend (maybe more?) to Fitz and I can’t wait to read more of his story! I also liked the addition of Starling and Kettle, but I really missed Burrich and all the other characters of Buckkeep。As for the setting, the Skill road with its signposts was such a cool concept。 I really liked the mystery surrounding it and the effects it had on Fitz。 We get subtle hints and bits of information about where the road - and their quest - leads the characters, but you’re not able to completely figure it out until the very end。 I loved putting the pieces together myself! The story could get a bit repetitive; Fitz travels, meets people, a girl wants to sleep with him, Fitz refuses, he goes on alone。 This changes about halfway through, but much of the story is still travelling, hunting, putting up the tent and so on。 Yet Robin Hobb writes so well, she manages to make these mundane things that much more interesting。 Her prose and her character work is phenomenal, I’d recommend these books for this alone! As for the end, some things were spectacular, while others were a bit underwhelming。 Overall, I was pretty happy with how things turned out。 I might have wanted a happier ending for Fitz, but I have many more books to go, so there’s plenty of time for that! ;) 。。。more
