Summary

The much-anticipated final conclusion to the Fitz and the Fool trilogy。

Prince FitzChivalry Farseer’s daughter Bee was violently abducted from Withywoods by Servants of the Four in their search for the Unexpected Son, foretold to wield great power。 With Fitz in pursuit, the Servants fled through a Skill-pillar, leaving no trace。 It seems certain that they and their young hostage have perished in the Skill-river。

Clerres, where White Prophets were trained by the Servants to set the world on a better path, has been corrupted by greed。 Fitz is determined to reach the city and take vengeance on the Four, not only for the loss of Bee but also for their torture of the Fool。 Accompanied by FitzVigilant, son of the assassin Chade, Chade’s protégé Spark and the stableboy Perseverance, Bee's only friend, their journey will take them from the Elderling city of Kelsingra, down the perilous Rain Wild River, and on to the Pirate Isles。

Their mission for revenge will become a voyage of discovery, as well as of reunions, transformations and heartrending shocks。 Startling answers to old mysteries are revealed。 What became of the liveships Paragon and Vivacia and their crews? What is the origin of the Others and their eerie beach? How are liveships and dragons connected?

But Fitz and his followers are not the only ones with a deadly grudge against the Four。 An ancient wrong will bring them unlikely and dangerous allies in their quest。 And if the corrupt society of Clerres is to be brought down, Fitz and the Fool will have to make a series of profound and fateful sacrifices。

ASSASSIN’S FATE is a magnificent tour de force and with it Robin Hobb demonstrates yet again that she is the reigning queen of epic fantasy。

I don’t think I’ve ever cried more at a book 😅

I ’ve been unbelievably sentimental reading the conclusion of this journey passing over 16 books and more than 22 years of work from Robin Hobb。 I can’t count how many times I’ve cried and smiled reading this final trilogy, especially through the final book saying goodbye to Fitz。 My family is looking at me strangely。 It’s bittersweet finishing the story, as I’ve become so incredibly fond of every one of the characters, spanning over generations of the Farseers。 Words can’t express how impressed I ’ve been unbelievably sentimental reading the conclusion of this journey passing over 16 books and more than 22 years of work from Robin Hobb。 I can’t count how many times I’ve cried and smiled reading this final trilogy, especially through the final book saying goodbye to Fitz。 My family is looking at me strangely。 It’s bittersweet finishing the story, as I’ve become so incredibly fond of every one of the characters, spanning over generations of the Farseers。 Words can’t express how impressed I am by Robin Hobb’s writing and ability to create these personalities, the world in which they live and the complexity of the story。 In just over two years I’ve read through all 16 books, I can say without a doubt that Hobb by far is my favorite author, and I wish to possess even an ounce of her talent。 It’s difficult to express how I feel, I’m sad that it’s over, happy and impressed over how everything turned out even though it broke my heart。 Most of all I’m so thankful that I went into a second hand bookshop in Melbourne and brought home to Sweden an edition from 1996 of Assassin’s Apprentice (which is older than me)。 The separation anxiety right now is severe and I desperately want to go back to that first book and take part of the Realm of the Elderlings all again。 Thank you Megan Lindholm。 。。。more

These comments pertain to the entire The Fitz and the Fool trilogy。As a fellow traveler who has come this far in the Elderlings series might expect, you will find the final chapter of this epic to be deeply introspective and emotionally freighted。 The experience of accompanying these characters this far in their journey is searing, but the story is so complex and compelling that I can't just set it aside and try to find something new to read。 I have to go back in。。。"One of Chade's exercises when These comments pertain to the entire The Fitz and the Fool trilogy。As a fellow traveler who has come this far in the Elderlings series might expect, you will find the final chapter of this epic to be deeply introspective and emotionally freighted。 The experience of accompanying these characters this far in their journey is searing, but the story is so complex and compelling that I can't just set it aside and try to find something new to read。 I have to go back in。。。"One of Chade's exercises when he was training me was to put the pieces of something back together… I would be presented with a bag of pieces of something, broken crockery or cut harness or something of that ilk, and I had to put them back into a whole。 After a time, the bag would hold not just the destroyed item but other random bits of things that looked as if they belonged with it。 It was a physical exercise to teach my mind to assemble bits of facts and random gossip into a comprehensible whole。"And so the fully engaged reader will have to go back through the pile of events and symbols and allusions scattered throughout the series, to sort through them in hindsight, approach a few unresolved questions from a new perspective, and see the big picture more clearly。 。。。more

Such a perfectly bittersweet read。 This enormous series and its characters have honestly stolen my entire heart and I love how the circle was closed with this last book。 These characters and this world have become utterly real to me and I will miss everything about it。 The ending was astounding。 Even though it was heartbreaking it was also beautiful and I could not imagine an ending that would have felt more right。 Until next time, Realm of the Elderlings。 For we will see each other again in the Such a perfectly bittersweet read。 This enormous series and its characters have honestly stolen my entire heart and I love how the circle was closed with this last book。 These characters and this world have become utterly real to me and I will miss everything about it。 The ending was astounding。 Even though it was heartbreaking it was also beautiful and I could not imagine an ending that would have felt more right。 Until next time, Realm of the Elderlings。 For we will see each other again in the future。 。。。more

I can’t believe this is the last book with the precious characters that I have grown so very attached to over the last few years。 I don’t know if I was ready for their story to come to an end。 I did have some mixed feeling about the overall plot line。 It seemed rather slow in many areas。 I just wanted more action and less talking。 The dialogue got a little repetitive in spots。 That being said, the last 30 pages had me crying uncontrollably so I bumped up the rating a bit。 I think the ending for I can’t believe this is the last book with the precious characters that I have grown so very attached to over the last few years。 I don’t know if I was ready for their story to come to an end。 I did have some mixed feeling about the overall plot line。 It seemed rather slow in many areas。 I just wanted more action and less talking。 The dialogue got a little repetitive in spots。 That being said, the last 30 pages had me crying uncontrollably so I bumped up the rating a bit。 I think the ending for my beloved characters was very fitting。 I also appreciated getting to see a multitude of characters that had made appearances throughout the entire Realm of the Elderlings series。 I do feel like there were still questions that were left unaddressed。 I hope that the series might continue (with other characters taking center stage) so that we can get more of a conclusion to the series as a whole。 Overall, I highly recommend the Realm of the Elderlings for any epic fantasy reader。 TW: sexual abuse, physical abuse, torture 。。。more

About: Assassin’s Fate was written by Robin Hobb and published in 2017。 It is the last book in the 16 book Realm of the Elderlings series。 In this last installment in the series, Fitz and of course the Fool are on their way to the island of Clerres to save Fitz’s daughter Bee and to enact vengeance。 This novel is told in alternating perspectives between Fitz and Bee。 It starts as a slow and steady novel and ends up picking up to a startling, but inevitable conclusion。 This novel knits together c About: Assassin’s Fate was written by Robin Hobb and published in 2017。 It is the last book in the 16 book Realm of the Elderlings series。 In this last installment in the series, Fitz and of course the Fool are on their way to the island of Clerres to save Fitz’s daughter Bee and to enact vengeance。 This novel is told in alternating perspectives between Fitz and Bee。 It starts as a slow and steady novel and ends up picking up to a startling, but inevitable conclusion。 This novel knits together characters from all the different novels and brings us to the end of the story of this world and of course Fitz who we have followed since he was a boy。 Did I Like This?: oh man I can’t believe I have finished this series! I have been reading this series since 2018 with some space between each one。 These characters have been ones I always get to go back to。 It’s so strange to think our journey together is over now。 In terms of being the last book in this series, I do think this was a good one。 I loved how it incorporated characters from the Rain Wild Chronicles and The Liveship Traders。 This book made me see how the sub series of The Realm of the Elderlings really should all be read in order and together because they are truly connected。 I was sad and a bit surprised about the way the book ended。 Yet, it did seem inevitable and right for it to end that way。 I love how this series truly chronicled Fitz’s life from a little boy to an old man。 Some fantasy series will just focus on a youthful character, but this series was so satisfying because we got to see our main character throughout every stage of his life。 I will say for awhile I found Bee’s sections a bit boring and repetitive。 Especially when she was on her journey to Clerres。 It picked up after awhile and towards the end of the book I was hooked no matter who’s perspective it was。 Those sections are probably my only complaint with the book。 In terms of last words about the series。 It’s fantastic。 My favorite fantasy novels hands down。 The characters are what make this series what it is。 They are so great and so are their relationships to one another。 Hobb gives us a wonderful web of these lives and they become familiar friends and people you can’t stop reading about。 A favorite relationship in this series is that between Fitz and the Fool。 Always ambiguous, yet with a connection and love that transcends all bounds。 Their relationship is never quite satisfying to the reader, yet I love how it is something that is deeper and almost above other types of relationships。 It tugged at my heartstrings right through to the end。 This series overall is about setting the world on a better track。 One where humans can’t be on a path of greed。 One where they need their lives to be put in better perspective。 This happens when dragons are restored to the world。 Do I Recommend It?:I recommend this conclusion to this series very much and I recommend this series tenfold! Do yourself a favor and allow yourself the delight of reading this fantastic fantasy series。 。。。more

I devoured yet savored this last book in the series like a passionate addict。 I dont' know how Hobb did it, but she wrenched so many tears out of me for one single volume。 This being the last in the series, I'm especially sad to know my journey has ended。 I would like to list a few techniques and attributes of Hobb and these amazing books that made them so delicious。 She pours as much heart and believable detail into her characters, that it is as if she were putting memories into stone dragons a I devoured yet savored this last book in the series like a passionate addict。 I dont' know how Hobb did it, but she wrenched so many tears out of me for one single volume。 This being the last in the series, I'm especially sad to know my journey has ended。 I would like to list a few techniques and attributes of Hobb and these amazing books that made them so delicious。 She pours as much heart and believable detail into her characters, that it is as if she were putting memories into stone dragons and wolves herself。 I formed relationships with them and got hooked on their outcomes。 Robin Hobb never neglected the importance of the senses when describing scenes and experiences。 This truly brought the books to life。 I appreciate her dedication to thirst, hunger and of course the importance she placed on tea。 I say with vetted authority that Robin Hobb is quite frankly one of the best authors I have yet read。 I've read close to a thousand books for pleasure, for my university degree and just for seeing knowledge。 My passion will always be cleverly crafted fiction and by God these books have claimed a spot in my Mt。 Rushmoore of fantasy titles。 I cannot recomend them enough! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I'd like to preface this by saying I understand what this series was about。 It was a way for the author to say goodbye to many loves characters, and add a bit of flavour to their current goings on。 In saying that, this series felt like a long linear corridor where Fitz meets every single character ever mentioned moving from one to the next learning exposition and then jumping to the next plot point。I loved the end of the book, and I think it was a fitting end for Fitz, a character who has suffer I'd like to preface this by saying I understand what this series was about。 It was a way for the author to say goodbye to many loves characters, and add a bit of flavour to their current goings on。 In saying that, this series felt like a long linear corridor where Fitz meets every single character ever mentioned moving from one to the next learning exposition and then jumping to the next plot point。I loved the end of the book, and I think it was a fitting end for Fitz, a character who has suffered so much。 In regards to the rest of the story I found myself just wanting it to be over。 If you remove all of the characters that were added to this trilogy would anything change? If a bereft Fitz after the death of Molly found the Fool on his doorstep with tales of the servents would the story play out any differently? Why was Bee essentially an adult in mind when we had been previously told that it was due to a white's slow aging that they were older and thus wiser than they seemed? Why are the villains so comically black and white evil, and why is Clerres wrapped up in a few chapters after building it up as the climax of the entire series?I'm glad characters were given an end to their story, but judging the series as a whole I find it has more problems than things going for it。 I can't say I'd recommend it, even to a fan of the previous books。 。。。more

An excellent ending to a remarkable series and cast of characters。 Fitz and Beloved have one of the most painfully exquisite relationships I’ve ever encountered in fantasy。 Kettricken will stand as one of my favorite fantasy characters ever。 I was introduced to Fitz in the initial trilogy when I was still a teenager, and I am finishing his journey with him as I approach thirty。 His journey struck deep chords in the ways I’ve changed as I’ve grown older。 That Hobb has created a character so well- An excellent ending to a remarkable series and cast of characters。 Fitz and Beloved have one of the most painfully exquisite relationships I’ve ever encountered in fantasy。 Kettricken will stand as one of my favorite fantasy characters ever。 I was introduced to Fitz in the initial trilogy when I was still a teenager, and I am finishing his journey with him as I approach thirty。 His journey struck deep chords in the ways I’ve changed as I’ve grown older。 That Hobb has created a character so well-fleshed that his personality and motivations stay distinctly Fitz in all his ages is a credit to her writing skill。 I think this concluding trilogy exponentially increases in weight and enjoyment if you’ve read the other Elderling books。 I myself have not read the Rain Wild series, but the knowledge I have from Liveship served to pull me in so much deeper。 。。。more

This book was hard to read and I’m still sorting my feelings about it, but I think the ending was just right。The Realm of the Elderlings was an incredible journey (the hangover is going to be massive)。 I’m in awe of Robin Hobb and have trouble understanding how she isn’t more widely known。

On what a journeyI fell in love with these characters。 So many adventures with friendship, loss, love, betrayal and family。 This series ending tied up nicely。 Not the way I was hoping, but I believe it ended the way Fitz and Fool would have wanted。 The author weaves the tales that draw you in and turning characters into friends。 Be prepared to shed a tear and accept that when you think you know how the story ends, the story changes。
