Finished this just in time for Ramadan。 The book discusses the 5 pillars of Islam with evidence from the Quran, spiritual poetry and folktales。 It was quite insightful。

I can not rave about this book enough!! It is phenomenal in every sense。 The way it explains our existence and relationship with Allah is just astounding。 I love that everything, every concept, every idea is explained and supported by the Quran itself。 If you are lost and need to reconnect with Allah this is the book you need to read!

An excellent reminder and an excellent introductionThis book is an excellent reminder for the one who has already surrendered to God (Muslim) and an excellent introduction to the religion of Islam (i。e。 the religion of surrendering to God) for the person who has not yet surrendered (non-Muslim)

Tulisannya tertata rapih, materinya berobobot tapi penulisanya mengalir jadi tidak memberatkan pembaca。

I once had a conversation with a friend, desperately asking for answers that no one can provide。 We end the discussion with the reassurance that I'm not crazy, and he told me to do a prayer; "Maybe, then you'll understand that you're not so alone after all。" A month later, I decided to give this book a shot, belittling myself with the thought that I won't be able to finish the book simply because I'm nowhere near-religious。 But an hour in, and it's probably the best decision I made this year。I t I once had a conversation with a friend, desperately asking for answers that no one can provide。 We end the discussion with the reassurance that I'm not crazy, and he told me to do a prayer; "Maybe, then you'll understand that you're not so alone after all。" A month later, I decided to give this book a shot, belittling myself with the thought that I won't be able to finish the book simply because I'm nowhere near-religious。 But an hour in, and it's probably the best decision I made this year。I took my time to read this book as it is indeed a gem in the midst chaotic cave of life。 A。 Halwi confirms so many doubts instilled in the back of our minds and soothed them down by putting together words from various studies and literature that help us understand the Qur'an and His words better。 One valuable thing this book has taught me is we do not practise good deeds merely to seek His mercy and blessings, but rather to unveil our eyes from His love all along。 A dear person of mine once reminded me that our main roles here on earth are to worship Him。 This book reminds me of the statement by pointing out that we're here for His sake, and so the only thing we're obliged to do is to be His faces on earth。A comforting realization, or reassurance, that we're never alone, that a Greater Love has always been with us。 Personally, a journey home to the One who transcends and dwells within that is。 。。。more

I REALLY wanted to love this。 I was so excited when I bought a copy。 I saw many rave reviews and didn't want to believe the ones slamming the book。 I am muslim and love texts that touch on spirituality in islam/tasawuf。 I'm no scholar, but I know b。s。 when I see it。 This book shouldn't have been published, and it's a travesty that it's in circulation。 There are a few gems here and there, but unfortunately the bad sorely outweighs the good。-The introduction leads one to believe the author is mere I REALLY wanted to love this。 I was so excited when I bought a copy。 I saw many rave reviews and didn't want to believe the ones slamming the book。 I am muslim and love texts that touch on spirituality in islam/tasawuf。 I'm no scholar, but I know b。s。 when I see it。 This book shouldn't have been published, and it's a travesty that it's in circulation。 There are a few gems here and there, but unfortunately the bad sorely outweighs the good。-The introduction leads one to believe the author is merely (and humbly) compiling many different verses, hadith, and quotes from mystics。 The reality is the book is chalk-full of the author's own, unsubstantiated, overreaching, and bold inaccuracies。 All of this with no apparent qualifications or sanad for the author's knowledge。-The author has the gull to take it upon herself to translate verses from the quran, as well as break down root words in arabic (both done incorrectly)。 As if that isn't bad enough, she chooses to omit portions of quranic verses。 Not ok, who are you and what are your credentials? It is obvious that the author's arabic is shaky at best, and there are plenty of qualified scholars whose texts she could have cited instead of making things up。-Concerning and overreaching statements about the apparent godliness and embodiment of divine qualities。 Again, unsubstantiated, but these statements feel/sound good to the author。 There are serious issues with the picture she paints of humans becoming/taking on divine qualities。 This is an islamic text, not an essay on how "A。 Helwa" feels about Allah。-Stylistic, but the first 2 chapters are so flowery, cheap, and watered down。。。saying nothing really, as she attempts to tell the story of a romanticized love affair of sorts, a cheap attempt at transposing 。。。nauseatingly painful to read。 Many times i cringed because there were quranic verses or hadith that would actually fit much better with the points she was attempting to make, but instead she continued to infuse her own opinions。-Why does an islamic book contain verses from the bible, torah, buddhism, and other religions? It's presented as an islamic text, so it would only be natural to think that it wouldn't be a compilation of content on love from other religious beliefs。 They are also so poorly integrated, the writing is weak。 Not to mention, translations of the word "mantra" in sanskrit, transposing of "loving-kindness," and Eve in hebrew are completely irrelevant to the topics at hand。This book is a sunk cost for me, i will never get those hours of my life back, but it's so bad that I feel compelled to spend more time writing this review。 My personal recommendation is to not even pick this book up。 In case you don't want to believe me, and are upset i ruined the prospects for you, here are some good (legit) reads on understanding spirituality in Islam: 1。。 Sea Without Shore: A Manual of the Sufi Path by Nuh Ha Mim Keller2。 Reclaim your Heart: Personal Insights on breaking free from life's shackles by Yasmin MogahedAlso, legitimate translations of the Quran: The Clear Quran by Mustafa Khattab or The Qur'an (Oxford World's Classics) by MAS Abdel Haleem。 Finally, a free, wonderful resource: Yaqeeninstitute。org or the Yaqeen app, with a number of Islamic articles, research, and content。 。。。more

I like this book a lot but some points I feel are a little stretched out。 Something I like a lot about the book is that the author always tries to back it their claims with either hadith, Qur'an or poetry from someone respectable, but I often feel doubtful that the point hasn't been drawn out a bit。 Idk, still a good book and would recommend。 I like this book a lot but some points I feel are a little stretched out。 Something I like a lot about the book is that the author always tries to back it their claims with either hadith, Qur'an or poetry from someone respectable, but I often feel doubtful that the point hasn't been drawn out a bit。 Idk, still a good book and would recommend。 。。。more

An amazing read to delve yourself into understanding the heart of Islam。 It took me two months to finish this book as I really wanted to enjoy every word and simply read it slowly。 It has been an eye-opener and comforting at the same time。 I would suggest the whole universe to read this wonderful book。

This is a comfort read, not so much as a scholar read。 If a scholarly book gives you more knowledge on the subject, comfort read made you want to study more of the subject, if that makes sense。Very simple and inviting, I think it's a really good way to start on Islamic reads and to build interest。 A。 Helwa used language very beautifully and gave enough information to love and to question。 This is a comfort read, not so much as a scholar read。 If a scholarly book gives you more knowledge on the subject, comfort read made you want to study more of the subject, if that makes sense。Very simple and inviting, I think it's a really good way to start on Islamic reads and to build interest。 A。 Helwa used language very beautifully and gave enough information to love and to question。 。。。more
