I really enjoyed this story and it had so many meaningful morals。 The dragon learns that he doesn't need the typical skills of a dragon to be successful, and despite only gaining one gold star, the story ends with him transporting doctors and helping people。 I also liked the fact that the princess did not have a passive role in the story: when the knight comes to 'rescue' her from the dragon and the attention shifts to the imminent fight between Sir Gadabout and Zog, she steps up and takes contr I really enjoyed this story and it had so many meaningful morals。 The dragon learns that he doesn't need the typical skills of a dragon to be successful, and despite only gaining one gold star, the story ends with him transporting doctors and helping people。 I also liked the fact that the princess did not have a passive role in the story: when the knight comes to 'rescue' her from the dragon and the attention shifts to the imminent fight between Sir Gadabout and Zog, she steps up and takes control of the situation and her future。 She cries: 'STOP, you silly chumps! The world's already far too full of cuts and burns and bumps。 Don't rescue me! I won't go back to being a princess and prancing round the palace in a silly frilly dress'。 There aren't many books for young children that have such strong female characters, so this sold it for me。 。。。more

An engaging and funny book with delightful illustrations and a lovable story。

A favorite in our house now。 Theme of practicing to improve and become independent is great for the age group。 Princess and knight changing career paths and Zog finding his takes an old trope and turns it into something clever and fun。

Yet another marvel from Donaldson; clever, witty and with a twist favouring gender-equality!

Very cute and fun, shows all you can learn even with hiccups along the way, and that you're always able to choose your own path。 Love this! Loved this story! You can't really go wrong with Julia Donaldson though。 This was a lovely new tale of Dragon school and the dragons progressing through the year groups。 I love a new age retelling as well and this book has a gorgeous twist towards the end。 Found this unexpectedly and can't believe I haven't read it before。 Putting it in my back pocket for September 2021 :) Loved this story! This book was absolutely lovely。 If it looks familiar it’s because it’s by the author of the Gruffalo and Room on a Broom。 And just like those, this book has the power to be an instant classic。 Dragons, princesses and knights, but in ways not really seen before。 I love the story, the cadence, the rhymes, and the illustrations。 A perfect read。#Wintergames #teamreadnosereindeer +16

I love everything about this book。 I admire the rhymes done in the book。 I also enjoyed the perfect illustrations。 This book is adorable and cute。 A baby dragon is learning new things every year。 His first year he learned how to fly。 His second year, they learned to roar。 Third year, they learned to blow fire。 Fourth year, they learned to capture a princess and so on and so forth。 I love the story line and illustrations。

I appreciated the reversal of stereotypes, of the princess saving the day and the rescuing knight being sent away, since the princess did not need rescuing! Then at the end of the story they all became doctors, another reversal of stereotypes。 Classic illustrations and rhyme scheme made for a lovely read and will allow children to join in with the story。 I liked the use of the year groups as the dragons grew up, making it relatable to the British child reader, seeing them learn how to be adult d I appreciated the reversal of stereotypes, of the princess saving the day and the rescuing knight being sent away, since the princess did not need rescuing! Zog was a young dragon in dragon school。 He was the biggest and tried the hardest to win a golden star, but he also had the most accidents。 Fortunately, he met a girl who always helped him when he needed patching up。 By year five it was time to capture a princess。 Zog had new surprises then。 Fun story in rhyme。 Great illustrations。

My 2 to 4 year old girls love this story。 I enjoy reading it too。 Love that the princess is so independent too。

Resilience, different characters, full sentences, good for most primary school ages

Good story。 Dragon working hard with a princess who follows her dream rather than just doing what is expected of her。 Fantastical characters, but strong lesson。

Zog is an enthusiastic if not naturally gifted student at madam dragon's school。 He does his best at every task she sets him, practising new skills she teaches him in his own time。 I don't know much about dragons but it seems that they are largely absent parents as zog practises dangerous skills such as flying and breathing fire without any supervision。 This inevitably leads to accidents。 Luckily for zog a young girl is always on hand (also unsupervised which seems unwise so close to a dragon sc Zog is an enthusiastic if not naturally gifted student at madam dragon's school。 He does his best at every task she sets him, practising new skills she teaches him in his own time。 I don't know much about dragons but it seems that they are largely absent parents as zog practises dangerous skills such as flying and breathing fire without any supervision。 This inevitably leads to accidents。 Luckily for zog a young girl is always on hand (also unsupervised which seems unwise so close to a dragon school) to patch him up again。 As Zog's education progresses so do her medical schools。 Eventually Zog, desperate to win a golden star, is tasked with capturing a princess。 Despite his best efforts he is unsuccessful until the girl, now a young woman, offers to come with him revealing she is Princess pearl。 Pearl enjoys a new freedom caring for injured dragons at the school and Zog finally gets a golden star。 I don't think this is really deserved as she willingly comes with him but I guess that's better than the alternative of a genuine kidnap。 Disturbingly for a children's book Madame Dragon says that all her pupils will have to capture 100s of princesses by the time they are grown。 I assumed this was to eat them but based on their treatment of Pearl this seems unlikely。 I also wonder where they are getting all these princesses from? Perhaps the author believes all girls are princesses bit this saccharin sentiment seems at odds with the feminist message portrayed by the independent and strong willed Pearl。 It's more likely that is set in a place with a large monarchy。 In what is to be his final year at school the ever eager Zog is taught to fight。 He is soon expected to put these skills to the test as a knight turns up to"rescue" Pearl。 Pearl however is a woman in no need of rescuing。 She intervenes, stopping the fight and declaring she has no intention of going back to the palace to waste her life prancing around in frilly dresses。 Instead she plans to become a traveling doctor, a desire shared by the knight who asks her to train him up。 Pearl agrees readily but it's concerned about their method of transport。 Zog offers himself up for this and the three of them become flying doctors。 I'm fairly perturbed that they all seem entirely self taught, I thought that doctor was a protected title。 Whilst Pearl has shown herself to be proficient dealing with minor injuries and maladies throughout the book the others have no experience at all。 Really what they are is flying quacks。 Even so I enjoyed it。 。。。more

A lovely, imaginative and creative picture book suitable for children aged 0-7 to enjoy。 Its a tale about a dragon called Zog who attends dragon school and is eager to win a golden star。 However, Zog finds it difficult compared to his friends to roar, fly, breathe fire and catch a princess as he is a bit more accident prone。 It teaches us it does not matter if you're different you can still achieve and be what you want to be! My rating: 5 blazing flowers! ❀❀❀❀❀With a love for dragons, and Donaldson's Gruffalo books, this was a guaranteed purchase when I found it! And I wasn't disappointed (and neither were my children ;))! The illustrations are just as amazing as in the Gruffalo books, and the rhyming prose of this story flows like water。 It is absolutely brilliant! I definitely recommend it。 My rating: 5 blazing flowers! ❀❀❀❀❀With a love for dragons, and Donaldson's Gruffalo books, this was a guaranteed purchase when I found it! O povestioară adorabilă despre cum se poate trece peste prejudecățile vremurilor trecute și cum se pot face alegeri individuale。 Traducerea în limba română este rezonabilă。

Fell in love with this one when Eddie Redmane did an online storytime with it。 I had to pick it up so that we could read it ourselves。 Such a cute story to read with the kiddos in my life。 Love the colors and the storyline。
