There’s been a time jump of four years， and we find ourselves among a completely new array of characters （well， mostly）， which we quickly learn are from the ‘other’ side of the conflict， the one we’ve regarded as the ‘bad guys’ all along。 But as we follow them through this volume， are they really so bad at all？ Are they not just normal people who’ve been brainwashed by the Marleyans into garnering hatred against their own distant kin， for atrocities their ancestors might have committed ages ago？ There’s been a time jump of four years， and we find ourselves among a completely new array of characters （well， mostly）， which we quickly learn are from the ‘other’ side of the conflict， the one we’ve regarded as the ‘bad guys’ all along。 But as we follow them through this volume， are they really so bad at all？ Are they not just normal people who’ve been brainwashed by the Marleyans into garnering hatred against their own distant kin， for atrocities their ancestors might have committed ages ago？I think this volume provides a fairly accurate description of the ugliness of war （and human nature， in general）， indoctrination of the young， and how everything is not just white and black， and how there are two sides to every story。 I actually felt sympathy for Reiner， after all he’s done。 This is AoT at its peak， highly character driven， which is exactly what endeared it to me in the first place。 Sure， the old characters are missed， but it’s honestly very refreshing to see a new bunch who are in no way any less endearing。 A quite exciting volume overall， which makes you question who to really root for， if anyone。 Really looking forward to where this leads。 。。。more

（3。5 rounded to a 4）At first I didn’t know what to expect at the direction of where this story was heading with all the new characters but I see why the Marley arc was needed as it sheds light on a different perspective—one from the people on the other side of the war。 It’s appalling to see the amount of brainwashing that goes on with these characters and the hatred they have for the Paradis-Eldians。 It’s hard to say whether either sides are entirely good or evil。

When this series first came out， they only had 21 volumes Now getting back into it and finally catching up has me remembering how good this series is 👌🏽I’m glad we’re finally getting so many questions answered （even tho more pop up in its place） and that were seeing the history behind it all I personally think it fits in nicely and I’m excited to keep reading so I can figure out what happens next and get to know the new characters more

Thank god I read this after seeing the anime， cause it gave me so many answers！ I had time to read carefully what the anime had thrown on my face。Everything makes much more sense now。I just wish I hated Reiner。 I really want to but I can’t， I guess that’s what happens when you write such a complex character。
