Summary

A Claymore - a female warrior named for the sword she carries - travels from medieval village to village to destroy Yoma, monsters who disguise themselves as humans and who are almost impossible to kill。 Claymores are half-humans, half-demons who willingly transformed themselves by mixing their blood with monster's blood。 Claire, nicknamed silver-eyed killer, is such a powerful Claymore, she can slay a Yoma using only one hand。 But she must constantly struggle to keep from becoming a monster herself。

Review to come。 I was genuinely surprised by this。 It's got haunting art with a solid start to a story, especially for a Shonen Jump-published story。 Review to come。 I was genuinely surprised by this。 It's got haunting art with a solid start to a story, especially for a Shonen Jump-published story。 。。。more

I give it 3 star's because it feels similar to Berserk and I liked volume 1 of that more than this。 Not saying it isn't bad however I can't help compare X to Y。Added volume 2 of Claymore to TBR cause it might just be a slow starter and get better the further in the reader goes。 I give it 3 star's because it feels similar to Berserk and I liked volume 1 of that more than this。 Not saying it isn't bad however I can't help compare X to Y。Added volume 2 of Claymore to TBR cause it might just be a slow starter and get better the further in the reader goes。 。。。more

Blood*guts*big swords*cool females*monstersI watched Claymore anime series some 10 years ago, when I was looking for something to fill the dark void in my heart that was left after never ending Berserk series。 Gosh how I hate ongoings。 I loved Claymore instantly, but alas, there was just one season and while waiting for season two, I got carried away from the franchise to other shores。。。 But lately I found out on some youtube channel that series are finished in a pretty number of 27 volumes and Blood*guts*big swords*cool females*monstersI watched Claymore anime series some 10 years ago, when I was looking for something to fill the dark void in my heart that was left after never ending Berserk series。 Gosh how I hate ongoings。 I loved Claymore instantly, but alas, there was just one season and while waiting for season two, I got carried away from the franchise to other shores。。。 But lately I found out on some youtube channel that series are finished in a pretty number of 27 volumes and that manga is actually even more awesome。 I just had to check, right here and right now。And what can I say - it's true, manga is even better。 It's more concentrated, the art is beautiful, there are no fillers (you know these endless fight scenes and villains' monologues)。 The world of pseudo-middle ages is brutal and cruel, the life of Claymores - as people call them for the swords they're wielding - often short and full of blood and gore, and if in the end they get killed by their colleagues - it's the best outcome, usually。 Claymores are young women, trained in sword arts, possessing some spiritual - energetic (I guess??) techniques and they work for mysterious Organization and kill monsters - yomas, demonic cannibals, that are especially infatuated with human innards。。。 I must also add, that they are, well, in some gross way physically "upgraded" to fight yomas。。。Clare is also a Claymore and comparably a weak one to that, but her spiritual powers are bigger than anyone's。 She's doing her job but also seeking a personal revenge and we accompany her on her way。 Clare is a badass, they all Claymores are。The story is FULL OF BADASS FEMALES you guys。 They ain't Sailor Moon, trust me on that。The art gets only better with every volume, even if the Claymores somewhat look like they were cloned in Lothlórien Elf Factory。 The series have a strong Berserk and Witcher vibe, I must confess that in the beginning I even thought that the idea was plagiarized from the Witcher, because - traveling for killing monsters for money, physical modification, white hair, etc etc。。。 But it's only a good thing。 It's like if Ciri had her own spin-off series pretending she wasn't Ciri。 OK, Clare is probably more badass than Ciri, who am I fooling。 :PAnyway, right now on vol。 9 myself I can only recommend the series if you're looking for something bloody, gory, with a bit of feelz, and smoothly illustrated, where females are playing the main part for the most of time。 And there are plot twists all the way。 I'm not finished with series yet but I already can say it's worth to spend your time on。 。。。more

Not usually one for dark fantasy, but I’m really glad I picked this up!

Muy bueno, la historia es atrapante y me gusta la protagonista。

The first part of Claymore introduces us to the world no one would like to be part of - dangerous Middle Age-like world, with elements of dark magic, where demons called Yoma run loose, and kill humans in the most cruel ways。 The only way to fight them is to send Claymores to fight them - half human half monsters, with abilities of Yoma, controlled by human minds。 We start to closely follow Clare, a Claymore, who travels with a boy she once saved and avenged death of his family in a way。 An inte The first part of Claymore introduces us to the world no one would like to be part of - dangerous Middle Age-like world, with elements of dark magic, where demons called Yoma run loose, and kill humans in the most cruel ways。 The only way to fight them is to send Claymores to fight them - half human half monsters, with abilities of Yoma, controlled by human minds。 We start to closely follow Clare, a Claymore, who travels with a boy she once saved and avenged death of his family in a way。 An interesting story, if not a bit too gruesome for my liking。 。。。more

(Zero spoiler review)I've been reading a fair bit of manga lately, thanks to the randomised system by which I draw books from my shelves, so it felt a little deflating to pull out another one straight after finishing Uzumaki, and not a few days after finishing the first two berserk deluxe editions。 Never the best feeling to go into a big and beloved franchise, though I put on my big boy pants and opened the book。 At the least it would have a lot to live up to after finishing those aforementioned (Zero spoiler review)I've been reading a fair bit of manga lately, thanks to the randomised system by which I draw books from my shelves, so it felt a little deflating to pull out another one straight after finishing Uzumaki, and not a few days after finishing the first two berserk deluxe editions。 Never the best feeling to go into a big and beloved franchise, though I put on my big boy pants and opened the book。 At the least it would have a lot to live up to after finishing those aforementioned titles。 Berserk's opening few salvo's were reasonably lackluster, at least when compared to the hype I'd heard going in, though that quickly upped the ante and drew me in。 In order to e consistent, I would have to grant Claymore the same leniency, and It's a good thing too, because this book stumbles out of the blocks with little more than a whimper, and does little to raise the stakes across these opening four issues。 What you get is fairly bog standard storytelling, devoid of any meaningful characterisation or world building。 The main protagonist goes to a place, does a thing (kills a demon), then goes to another place and repeats。 The first three stories are so bland, and cut and paste, that you could almost skip them and would lose practically nothing of the story going forward。 This left me feeling very luke warm, despite this book being about attractive, scantily clad ladies killing demons with fuck off big swords。 I mean seriously, this is pretty much mana from heaven to me as far as I am concerned, and yet the bland dialogue, lack of originality in the creature design and narrative repetition sucked most of the wind out of my sails。 The fourth and final issue of the book introduced a new concept and added a tiny bit to the stories lore, which was sorely needed。 The idea in itself was really interesting, although the author took a great idea and went about butchering it, rushing through it in 30 or so pages。 It could have been a meaningful story told across several issues, giving the reader a chance to learn a lot more about her backstory and make an emotional connection to her, so we empathise with her and what she has to do。 Instead, the story comes and goes with barely a whimper, and I'm left feeling cold again, and as a fellow writer, ruing the wasted opportunity to pull me into a book I desperately wanted to be pulled into。 As I write this, I have already finished the second volume, which I can thankfully saw was better, although not by any discernible margin。 Here's hoping it keeps improving。 I've got the bloody box set, with 26 more of these books to go。。。 sheesh。 3/5OmniBen。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I’ll talk of the series as a whole。 For my personally it was my first manga ever, but I have watched many different anime。 Those two aren’t the same things I know, but still。 Talking about those two things, it’s rather important for the reader to expect that the manga and the anime of claymore diverge midway, meaning the manga has a different ending then the anime。The manga overall is really great, and definitely a good read, yet if I could change one thing would be the philosophical depth to th I’ll talk of the series as a whole。 For my personally it was my first manga ever, but I have watched many different anime。 Those two aren’t the same things I know, but still。 Talking about those two things, it’s rather important for the reader to expect that the manga and the anime of claymore diverge midway, meaning the manga has a different ending then the anime。The manga overall is really great, and definitely a good read, yet if I could change one thing would be the philosophical depth to the character, none of the characters was a bit interesting in a deeper sense。 Yes, they all had really nice backstory but yet they felt shallow。 A lot like the villain who were not likeable at all, some manga are great at making you like the villain, yet Priscilla the final antagonist, after so much goddam secondary underdeveloped antagonist, really wasn’t likeable at all。 Maybe it was the will of the author, since Priscilla was a monster after all。 But still there was something lacking in my opinion。But don’t let that deter you from reading。 If you like dark fantasy, gore and fights this manga is for you。 The plot wasn’t the best thing ever, but it held up to my expectations, and a some great twist。 Gotta tell you I didn’t see the ending coming until a far point into the manga。 Great manga with attaching characters, and definitely a must read 。。。more

3 star story but 5 star art。 The art is amazing in this series, but the story, while not bad, isn't the greatest。 I hardly cared if someone would die (which was rare even when the warriors were in grave circumstances) because only the less important characters ever seem to die。 Everyone else miraculously survives every time and it never feels like the stakes are that high when the entire series is about an organization trying to raise the stakes to when the war。 This is because no one ever is se 3 star story but 5 star art。 The art is amazing in this series, but the story, while not bad, isn't the greatest。 I hardly cared if someone would die (which was rare even when the warriors were in grave circumstances) because only the less important characters ever seem to die。 Everyone else miraculously survives every time and it never feels like the stakes are that high when the entire series is about an organization trying to raise the stakes to when the war。 This is because no one ever is seriously injured let alone dead。 Death aside, the story is decent。 Just nothing amazing。 That said, I first picked up this series as a 14 year old and loved it, but it was only half done then。 I picked it up as a 19 year old and really enjoyed it, but I put it down only for it to be finished about a year later, but at that point I felt I had already forgotten too much to just finish it, so I waited another 6 years to just reread it in it's entirety。 So while not the greatest story, I definitely still wanted to know the ending。 。。。more

I am so here for this series。 My husband convinced me to start it and it is the epitome of what I like in stories。 Strong female characters, sadness, horror, and an annoying brat who thinks he can change the way things are。 Score!

I love, love, LOVE Claymore! It is a kickass story that doesn't disappoint and is best suited to readers who aren't afraid to read some intense scenes。 It took the first couple of volumes until I really started to get hooked on it and I'm glad that I didn't put it down。 The characters were so interesting to me given the nature of what they are and how they are perceived by humans。 Overall it is a brilliant read!
