Summary

Librarian's note: There is an Alternate Cover Edition for this edition of this book here

A farm is taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals。 With flaming idealism and stirring slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice, and equality。 Thus the stage is set for one of the most telling satiric fables ever penned –a razor-edged fairy tale for grown-ups that records the evolution from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism just as terrible。
When Animal Farm was first published, Stalinist Russia was seen as its target。 Today it is devastatingly clear that wherever and whenever freedom is attacked, under whatever banner, the cutting clarity and savage comedy of George Orwell’s masterpiece have a meaning and message still ferociously fresh。

Fala sobre o funcionamento dos governos autoritários e como eles pregam a igualdade de modo que uns acabam sendo mais iguais que outros。

Very relevant! Timeless classic

I had not read Animal Farm by George Orwell since High School。 Since I received a free Audible membership, I decided to take advantage of some of the freebees offered。 This was a relatively small investment of time: approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes。 I remember “enjoying” the book。 Enjoying is not really the right word, but nothing else readily comes to mind。 It certainly is understandable and in light of the 2020 election, where facts are fiction and fiction are facts, the story resonates, r I had not read Animal Farm by George Orwell since High School。 Since I received a free Audible membership, I decided to take advantage of some of the freebees offered。 This was a relatively small investment of time: approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes。 I remember “enjoying” the book。 Enjoying is not really the right word, but nothing else readily comes to mind。 It certainly is understandable and in light of the 2020 election, where facts are fiction and fiction are facts, the story resonates, remains compelling, and uniquely prophetic。 I found it fascinating, and I received a real sense of the type of writer Orwell was。 I get why this was taught in high school。 。。。more

Great book。 Only wish I had read it in highschool so we could dissect each chapter。

I was never a fan of the idea of an audiobook, but I was curious to try it。 I saw that the one for this book was available on YouTube, with only 3h, so I give it a go。。。 and I loved it。 I’m not sure if I’ll do it more often - probably only for the classics, that you can easily find for free online。 In this case, having the book myself, I was able to easily confirm some aspects that I hadn’t quite understood, or to even accompany reading with sound。 The story was also stimulating - and short enou I was never a fan of the idea of an audiobook, but I was curious to try it。 I saw that the one for this book was available on YouTube, with only 3h, so I give it a go。。。 and I loved it。 I’m not sure if I’ll do it more often - probably only for the classics, that you can easily find for free online。 In this case, having the book myself, I was able to easily confirm some aspects that I hadn’t quite understood, or to even accompany reading with sound。 The story was also stimulating - and short enough - for me to control my attention span。 Regarding the book itself, there isn’t much I can say。 An amazing political allegory that, unfortunately, continues to be actual and relevant。 。。。more

I read this book when I was much younger and it was a requirement for school。 Re-reading it today was a completely different experience。 The author uses the Russian Revolution as a reference in the book, naming the animals Stalin, Marx, Lenin, etc。The book takes place in England, 1945 on a farm run by a mean, cruel farmer。 The animals decide to oust the farmer and run the place themselves, renaming it Animal Farm。 They have a set of rules, one of them is all animals are equal。 But that's not eve I read this book when I was much younger and it was a requirement for school。 Re-reading it today was a completely different experience。 The author uses the Russian Revolution as a reference in the book, naming the animals Stalin, Marx, Lenin, etc。The book takes place in England, 1945 on a farm run by a mean, cruel farmer。 The animals decide to oust the farmer and run the place themselves, renaming it Animal Farm。 They have a set of rules, one of them is all animals are equal。 But that's not even close to the truth。 Everyone has a job, and soon the pigs are the ones running the place。The ending was an eye-opener, because I had forgotten how it ended with the pigs。 A must read for any age group。 。。。more

Really good book, even if you don't know the real events that are described as an animal farm。 Really good book, even if you don't know the real events that are described as an animal farm。 。。。more

The extended metaphor that this book is, is amazing。 Its perfectly written and as a history nerd, its so perfectly well put together。 A classic I would recommend to those who can take a bit of realism and gore ( in a way )。

i read this as a requirement for my english class and i will say that the symbolism in this book is PHENOMENAL。 of course, orwell did lack in some aspects of writing (descriptive text of setting imo) but i was never TOO picky about such。however, i can say that orwell could have milked out much more from this book。 i do remember wanting more from the book considering how short it is。 yet, i remember reading and discussing and being absolutely in shock with every chapter。 maybe my english teacher i read this as a requirement for my english class and i will say that the symbolism in this book is PHENOMENAL。 of course, orwell did lack in some aspects of writing (descriptive text of setting imo) but i was never TOO picky about such。however, i can say that orwell could have milked out much more from this book。 i do remember wanting more from the book considering how short it is。 yet, i remember reading and discussing and being absolutely in shock with every chapter。 maybe my english teacher made the overall experience a lot more worthwhile and enjoyable。 all i can say is that good english teachers will always find a way to make any book exciting。 。。。more

This was part of my “Junior High/High School Books Revisit” challenge。 A brilliant, witty, depressing analogy of the Russian Revolution (and other similar governments) and its miserable descent from bad to worse, from democracy to totalitarianism, from “all animals are equal” to “but some animals are more equal than others。” From the days of “missing milk” to pants-wearing pigs who swore to abide by the Seven Commandments of Animal Farm, your heart just hurts for the dedicated but illiterate “lo This was part of my “Junior High/High School Books Revisit” challenge。 A brilliant, witty, depressing analogy of the Russian Revolution (and other similar governments) and its miserable descent from bad to worse, from democracy to totalitarianism, from “all animals are equal” to “but some animals are more equal than others。” From the days of “missing milk” to pants-wearing pigs who swore to abide by the Seven Commandments of Animal Farm, your heart just hurts for the dedicated but illiterate “lower class” who continue to chant “I will work harder” while their society and cause crumble around them。 。。。more

Interesting and accessible in explaining how a revolution turns into another dictatorship。 Would recommend this to anyone that's a fan of Pink Floyd's "Animals," which reinvents Animal Farm's themes for a capitalist society。 Three stars because I thought the point was pretty clear 50% in。 Interesting and accessible in explaining how a revolution turns into another dictatorship。 Would recommend this to anyone that's a fan of Pink Floyd's "Animals," which reinvents Animal Farm's themes for a capitalist society。 Three stars because I thought the point was pretty clear 50% in。 。。。more

First time reading this, kinda late。 Very cool book about corruption, dictatorship and authoritarianism 。 Looking forward to to reading 1984。

Tabitha Hinkley

I like the book in terms of history and well scripted lessons for children and adults alike。

This story is still very relevant 。。。

Short, witty, and easy to read。 All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others

Fabiola

Recommended by many and now I understand why。 Leaves me with a sour taste on the mouth due to the end, as I was really hopping for better days for the animals on the farm。。。but its without doubt a reflection of our societies。

Cony Bachler

Jennifer Dollinger-woods

An allegorical piece of literary genius - as relevant to the Trump era as it ever was to the Russian Revolution。

Ethan

Very short but very sweet。 Amazing depiction of the circular style of corruption regarding authoritarianism。 Love it when the pigs morph at the end。

If I could turn back time。 If I could find a way。 I'd never read this book and save myself nightmares and inner turmoil。 Is it well-written? Yeah。 Of course。 Are the themes important? Made me reflect on complicity of common person in systems of oppression。 While I certainly grew frustrated by the pigs moving to a hierarchical society under false pretenses, time and time again the average animal in Animal Farm was more willing to change their own memory rather than question authority。 The general element of tribalism plays out across species from the first rallying cry against man。
