“Somehow, we’ve weathered and witnessed A nation that isn’t broken, but simply unfinished。” I watched Amanda preform this poem on Inauguration Day and was utterly captivated by her talent so when I heard this poem was being released I had to add it to my book collection。 I’m so glad I have as the edition is stunning。

When I saw this audiobook on libro。fm, I jumped on putting it into my cart。 Like many people, I was introduced to Amanda Gorman during her reading of this poem for President Biden's inauguration。 She brought me to tears that day and I wanted to be able to listen to the poem again。 I am not a poetry fan but I connected with this poem in a way that I have never connected with poetry before。 Listening to it a second and third time, it continues to captivate me and fill me with overwhelming emotions When I saw this audiobook on libro。fm, I jumped on putting it into my cart。 Like many people, I was introduced to Amanda Gorman during her reading of this poem for President Biden's inauguration。 She brought me to tears that day and I wanted to be able to listen to the poem again。 I am not a poetry fan but I connected with this poem in a way that I have never connected with poetry before。 Listening to it a second and third time, it continues to captivate me and fill me with overwhelming emotions。 HOPE。 LOVE。 LEARN。 GROW。 These are the important messages from this poem that I am taking away。 I am hoping that these continue to be themes after this turbulent year that we have had。The audiobook has a forward read by Oprah, which is a nice addition!Thank you to Penguin Random House Audio and Libro。fm for a gifted copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

As impactful as when she delivered this during Biden's inauguration, this poem should be required reading for all。 I hope that educators use this poem to teach with as the words are so meaningful。 Gorman wrote this and delivered it with passion, hope, optimism and realism。 Let this not be just a momentary brush with poems and words, but a commitment to explore and learn further。 As impactful as when she delivered this during Biden's inauguration, this poem should be required reading for all。 I hope that educators use this poem to teach with as the words are so meaningful。 Gorman wrote this and delivered it with passion, hope, optimism and realism。 Let this not be just a momentary brush with poems and words, but a commitment to explore and learn further。 。。。more

This is ridiculous, and the German translation is a shame。 Black supremacists rejected the Dutch translator, Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, because she was white。 They also rejected the Catalan translator, because he was not "woman, young, activist and preferably Black。" Who cares he translated William Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde? Even Dutch black activists insisted that a white male "just cannot understand。" As the translator noted, "if I cannot translate a poet because she is a woman, young, Black, This is ridiculous, and the German translation is a shame。 Black supremacists rejected the Dutch translator, Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, because she was white。 They also rejected the Catalan translator, because he was not "woman, young, activist and preferably Black。" Who cares he translated William Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde? Even Dutch black activists insisted that a white male "just cannot understand。" As the translator noted, "if I cannot translate a poet because she is a woman, young, Black, an American of the 21st century, neither can I translate Homer because I am not a Greek of the eighth century BC。 Or could not have translated Shakespeare because I am not a 16th-century Englishman。" HOW ABOUT THE READER? If such activist propaganda can only be understood by black females, and knowing that this crap of so-called poetry is full of cultural references, then nobody else should read it! Of course, everyone can understand Homer and Shakespeare, as they're inferior to Amanda Nobody! The German edition of this hardback pamphlet has THREE translators: a German woman of Turkish descent, a German woman of African origin, and a white woman that happens to have translated petty names such as Emily Dickinson, Henry David Thoreau, Sam Shepard, John Edgar Wideman, Aldous Huxley; petty, because such names didn't require THREE translators each! Now, those who rated this crap 5/5 stars are brainwashed morons。 They probably believe that Greta Thunberg and Elon Musk will save the planet, and that Amanda Nobody will become President of the U。S。 and, unlike Obama, she'll get TWO Nobel prizes: for Litterature, and for Peace。All good translations are explaining the cultural references in footnotes or endnotes, in the introduction, and in whatever way might be appropriate。 This being a propaganda book, the petty poetry doesn't matter, the history and the ideology are too salient to be able to enjoy the translation。 Anyway, this planet has gone nuts to put this brat on such a high pedestal; the quality of the poetry is similar to that made to please Stalin, and the color of the skin doesn't give any special qualities to the bearer。After Stalin, Mao, Ceaușescu and the Kim family, a new claque of professional applauders is born, and they bow to Amanda Coloredskin。 。。。more

Regardless of the politics one may be tied to, this poem is hopeful and beautiful。 It is a reaffirmation of the promise we’ve yet to keep as a country and the premise behind the unfinished and imperfect founding of this nation。

If you watched the inauguration, you know what a treasure Amanda Gorman is。 Her work moved me to tears as I watched her recite The Hill We Climb that day, so when I heard it would be available as a special edition book, I knew I need to have a copy of my own。 The poem touches on some of our struggles as a nation but ultimately gives me hope for what we can be “if only we dare it。” I can’t wait to see what Amanda writes next!

Kristin

I will never forget watching Amanda Gorman recite this poem at President Biden’s inauguration。 And more importantly, I will never forget how her words made me feel。 The whole world held their breath as she was speaking, collectively in awe and collectively moved by her passion and hope for the future。 I’m so happy to own this book now so I can own a piece of history。

Michelle
