But these are dangerous times, and when Liesel's foster family hides a Jew in their basement, nothing will ever be the same again。

This book is so hard to explain。 It’s different, to say the least。 It gives you mini spoilers throughout, but it still is easy to read and keeps you interested。 It’s heartbreaking but so beautifully written。 This one is a keeper for me。 Definitely will be looking up more works from this author。

Coming from death’s perspective was fitting and imaginative。 The authors writing was so sensory and magical。 The way he describes things and moments was so fun and really painted images in an animated way。 It helped keep the topic at hand bearable。 Like all WWll stories, it was sad, but the protagonist was full of life and hope and even mischievousness still after the hardship she went through。 She was resilient。 She never gave up。 She advanced so much from the beginning to the end of the book。 Coming from death’s perspective was fitting and imaginative。 The authors writing was so sensory and magical。 The way he describes things and moments was so fun and really painted images in an animated way。 It helped keep the topic at hand bearable。 Like all WWll stories, it was sad, but the protagonist was full of life and hope and even mischievousness still after the hardship she went through。 She was resilient。 She never gave up。 She advanced so much from the beginning to the end of the book。 I loved the ‘Word shaker’ character from Max’s book。 I hope to be like her。 My only hang up was how It hurt my heart to hear Jesus’ name used so much and in that way。 。。。more

I don’t even know how to write a review for this book。 My words would fall short。 My only advice would be to read this book, don’t go with the audio version。 It has pictures。

4。8I loved this book, it made me cry a few times, which rarely happens when I read。 It took me quite a while to finally finish it but nonetheless I'm still happy I did。 4。8I loved this book, it made me cry a few times, which rarely happens when I read。 It took me quite a while to finally finish it but nonetheless I'm still happy I did。 。。。more

To say that I’m in tears is an understatement。 The Book Thief is truly a modern classic that will make you smile and ultimately leave you devastated。

Rating this book was hard。 It’s probably more of a 3。5 stars。 I loved the story and the beauty in the writing 。。。 but I also hated the storytelling style。 It was distracting and hard to read。 As a result, it was long and difficult to enjoy at times。

Clara

I thought this book was very creative and good for anyone who likes to read about the past。

Very late to this party, I know, but I am so glad I read this。 Astonishing achievement。 No book makes me cry, but this one did。 Twice。

Jeanine SMith

Interesting premise of having Death be the narrator。 I was struck by how so many of the ordinary German people were also victims of the crazed maniac。 Just ordinary people caught up in a period of history that they neither chose nor wanted。

finally finished after ages cos of tests and just life in general but wow

What a book。 Loved the narrative and POV。 This book has an amazing arc and followed characters seamlessly。 Speaking of characters! Their development and fabric flowed smoothly onto paper and its very difficult not to develop a favourite one (can u say Rosa, lol)。

4,5 stars。Wauw。 I dont really know what to say about the book, it didn’t make me as emotional as I expected, but damn did it hurt。

Letty Shaw

Loved this story! I enjoyed the characters and really felt their pain and joy throughout the book。

Ariana Malfoy

Spectacular!!! I really loved this book and my favourite character was Rudy

This is one of the most beautiful and saddest books that I have ever read。 It's set during WW2 which is definitely one of the worst time periods in history。 The author did a really good job of balancing the horrible things that were happening in the world at the time with the more lighthearted moments of a little girl growing up。 I could not put it down as I read, and even though you don't get this perfect ending, you do get a real ending which left me satisfied。 This is one of the most beautiful and saddest books that I have ever read。 It's set during WW2 which is definitely one of the worst time periods in history。 The author did a really good job of balancing the horrible things that were happening in the world at the time with the more lighthearted moments of a little girl growing up。 I could not put it down as I read, and even though you don't get this perfect ending, you do get a real ending which left me satisfied。 。。。more

I had to give this 5 stars, it made me cry at the end, love it when I get invested into characters that you think you're not going to love and then you cry when they die at the end。I knew the narrator was Death but I was surprised that I liked how Markus Zusak presented him in the book, it's the way I would feel Death would acted。 I had to give this 5 stars, it made me cry at the end, love it when I get invested into characters that you think you're not going to love and then you cry when they die at the end。I knew the narrator was Death but I was surprised that I liked how Markus Zusak presented him in the book, it's the way I would feel Death would acted。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I would like to just say that I'm writing this review through a blurred vision。 Oh my god I don't even know if I'll be able to move on from all the hurt this book has inflicted on me。 Markus Zusak's writing is both humorous (if humor is needed), and heartbreaking。 At some points, I would usually turn a page with so much vigor just because of the side comments of death。Anyways, back to the book thief。 Liesel Meminger and the bonds that she created with Rosa and Hans, Rudy and Max are one of those I would like to just say that I'm writing this review through a blurred vision。 Oh my god I don't even know if I'll be able to move on from all the hurt this book has inflicted on me。 Markus Zusak's writing is both humorous (if humor is needed), and heartbreaking。 At some points, I would usually turn a page with so much vigor just because of the side comments of death。Anyways, back to the book thief。 Liesel Meminger and the bonds that she created with Rosa and Hans, Rudy and Max are one of those instances that you would just fawn over。 Their moments were never outshined by one another, and their own stories were always a gem of their own。 They could stand on their own, but they were brighter when they were combined and stitched together by Zusak's writing。The first half of the book was bearable to say the least, I maintained composure。 BUT OH GOD I FULLY BROKE DOWN WHEN PART 11 AND 11 CAME AROUND (half of my tissue box is now drenchd in snot and tears, TMI???)。I sobbed when Rudy didn't get to know he got his kiss from the one he loved。I sobbed when Liesel lamented over Rosa, how she recalled her attitude towards the little saumensch。Hans was another story, I dug myself into a pillow and cried, I broke when Liesel said her goodbye and her gratitude towards him in teaching her how to read。Finally, Max's arrival was my final breaking point。 I let out an exasperated cry and thanked the heavens。Overall。。。 This book deserves all the stars in the universe。 A true masterpiece on how words have power, and how it has shaped the life of a girl in Molching, Germany during World War II。 。。。more

This book destroyed me。 It took almost a year to read。 It was worth it。 Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, it was worth every second。 It was absolutely brilliant。 I love the writing。 The metaphors, the symbolism--it is, no doubt, a masterpiece。 It is also the kind of book that tears you apart。 It was because of Leisel Meminger, of Hans and Rosa Hubermann, of Rudy Steiner, and because of Death himself that I found myself sitting alone in the dark on a Thursday night, sobbing uncontrollably because of two s This book destroyed me。 It took almost a year to read。 It was worth it。 Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, it was worth every second。 It was absolutely brilliant。 I love the writing。 The metaphors, the symbolism--it is, no doubt, a masterpiece。 It is also the kind of book that tears you apart。 It was because of Leisel Meminger, of Hans and Rosa Hubermann, of Rudy Steiner, and because of Death himself that I found myself sitting alone in the dark on a Thursday night, sobbing uncontrollably because of two simple pages。 Not just crying, mind you, but the kind of grief that shakes your whole body and leaves you breathless--the kind the rips you apart from the inside out and stings your eyes。 The kind that can only come from books。 。。。more
