Summary

The irresistible new standalone from Sophie Kinsella is a story of love, empowerment and an IOU that changes everything 。 。 。

Fixie Farr can’t help herself。 Straightening a crooked object, removing a barely-there stain, helping out a friend 。 。 。 she just has to put things right。 It’s how she got her nickname, after all。

So when a handsome stranger in a coffee shop asks her to watch his laptop for a moment, Fixie not only agrees, she ends up saving it from certain disaster。 To thank her, the computer’s owner, Sebastian, scribbles her an IOU – but of course, Fixie never intends to call in the favour。

That is, until her teenage crush, Ryan, comes back into her life and needs her help。 Fixie turns to Seb – but things don’t go according to plan and now Fixie owes Seb: big time。

Soon the pair are caught up in a series of IOUs – from small favours to life-changing debts – and Fixie is torn between her past and the future she deserves。

Does she have the courage to fix things for herself and fight for the life, and love, she really wants?

DNF。 Listened to this on audio whilst doing a bit of housework, listened for about 2。5 hours up until the end of chapter 6 and I just found it boring, kept waiting for it to pick up, for the romance to start and it just didn't。 The characters were cliched and annoying。 Just couldn't get into it。 DNF。 Listened to this on audio whilst doing a bit of housework, listened for about 2。5 hours up until the end of chapter 6 and I just found it boring, kept waiting for it to pick up, for the romance to start and it just didn't。 The characters were cliched and annoying。 Just couldn't get into it。 。。。more

Not a fan of this one。 The characters are soooo frustrating and annoying that I just did not want to spend time with them in this book。 It got better around 3/4 in, but that’s way too long to start liking a book。 The most annoying characters either largely left the story (Ryan/Ned) or had miraculous turnarounds (Jake/Nicole) that seemed pretty unrealistic (but still appreciated since they were horrid)。 I’m giving it three stars because there were parts that were cute and it did get better, but I Not a fan of this one。 The characters are soooo frustrating and annoying that I just did not want to spend time with them in this book。 It got better around 3/4 in, but that’s way too long to start liking a book。 The most annoying characters either largely left the story (Ryan/Ned) or had miraculous turnarounds (Jake/Nicole) that seemed pretty unrealistic (but still appreciated since they were horrid)。 I’m giving it three stars because there were parts that were cute and it did get better, but I still don’t really recommend it。 。。。more

Not my favorite, got annoyed with the characters and their flaws, found frustrating rather than charming。 Liked “Can You Keep a Secret?” more。

Light read。 Enjoyable。

I really struggled to connect in the first half。 I wasn’t really connecting with Fixie, and I found her family extremely annoying, but Seb was just to great to give up on。 Anyway I’m glad I kept reading because the second half of this book was so much better then the first!Every interaction between Seb and Fixie was funny and cute, and they just got along so well, and her friends and other side characters were written wonderfully with each having their own distinct personality that I usually lik I really struggled to connect in the first half。 I wasn’t really connecting with Fixie, and I found her family extremely annoying, but Seb was just to great to give up on。 Anyway I’m glad I kept reading because the second half of this book was so much better then the first!Every interaction between Seb and Fixie was funny and cute, and they just got along so well, and her friends and other side characters were written wonderfully with each having their own distinct personality that I usually liked (eg。 Leila (I adored her))。 Anyway, things were tied up really well in the second half and a lot of characters were able to find their own voice and have major character growth so maybe 3。5 stars? 。。。more

An enjoyable read from Kinsella, as usual, but a few too many cringe worthy moments to rate it higher。

I usually love Sophie Kinsella, but having grown up with a narcissist mother, her siblings and uncle and her godawful narc of a love interest reaalllllllyyyyyyy triggered me。 I found all of the characters completely flat and unlikable。 I love ya, Sophie, but this felt like there was a deadline that had to be met that resulted in a muddled, frustrating and ultimately unfinishable book。 It takes A LOT for me to stop reading a book halfway through。 I just couldn’t do it。 I read to get attached to c I usually love Sophie Kinsella, but having grown up with a narcissist mother, her siblings and uncle and her godawful narc of a love interest reaalllllllyyyyyyy triggered me。 I found all of the characters completely flat and unlikable。 I love ya, Sophie, but this felt like there was a deadline that had to be met that resulted in a muddled, frustrating and ultimately unfinishable book。 It takes A LOT for me to stop reading a book halfway through。 I just couldn’t do it。 I read to get attached to characters and live their lives。 I didn’t do the former and I would never want to do the latter, because Fixie was a doormat and a guileless moron。 。。。more

I adore Sophie Kinsella's books。 Buuuut, this one is at the bottom of the list。 I do think some of my dislike is due to the unfortunate narration in the audiobook - I don't recommend it。 The narrator basically makes all the male voices sound like the same douchey frat boy-man。 That said, the main character was quite annoying in her naivete and general lack of a spine。 Gah。 There's some growing up and coming into her own, of course, that occurs by the end of the book。 But, overall, this one was a I adore Sophie Kinsella's books。 Buuuut, this one is at the bottom of the list。 I do think some of my dislike is due to the unfortunate narration in the audiobook - I don't recommend it。 The narrator basically makes all the male voices sound like the same douchey frat boy-man。 That said, the main character was quite annoying in her naivete and general lack of a spine。 Gah。 There's some growing up and coming into her own, of course, that occurs by the end of the book。 But, overall, this one was a bit of a dud for me。 Not enough to regret the read but enough to give this lackluster review。 Read Kinsella novels - they are adorbs。🌼 Just don't start with this one。😉 。。。more

Not a very enjoyable book, disliked most of the characters。 Wanted to reach into the book and shake Fixie more often than not。。。。

Pretty good characters - good and bad。 I skimmed some boring parts in the middle。 I like Kinsella novels to jump-start my reading when I've been in a rut。 They are easy and mindless and get me back into the reading habit, and provide an escape from reality。 Pretty good characters - good and bad。 I skimmed some boring parts in the middle。 I like Kinsella novels to jump-start my reading when I've been in a rut。 They are easy and mindless and get me back into the reading habit, and provide an escape from reality。 。。。more

I can’t believe this was written by Sophie Kinsella。 It was awful and had it been my first books of hers I wouldn’t have read a second which is a shame as I have loved some of her others。 I don’t mind that it was predictable or followed the usual formulaic plot, it was the characters。 Dreadful。 Fixie who, wait for it, just can’t help fixing things is incredibly annoying particularly when her fingers start drumming and she does her crazy forward-across-back little dance, good grief 😩I nearly stop I can’t believe this was written by Sophie Kinsella。 It was awful and had it been my first books of hers I wouldn’t have read a second which is a shame as I have loved some of her others。 I don’t mind that it was predictable or followed the usual formulaic plot, it was the characters。 Dreadful。 Fixie who, wait for it, just can’t help fixing things is incredibly annoying particularly when her fingers start drumming and she does her crazy forward-across-back little dance, good grief 😩I nearly stopped reading the book when she mentioned that habit for the third time。 Her family are ridiculous and totally unbelievable。 It got slightly better in places hence the 2 instead of the 1 rating it almost got。 I don’t like giving bad reviews but this is simply to say please don’t judge this author on the strength of this book as in my opinion it’s not typical of her usually very funny and enjoyable books。 。。。more

Well lots of growth for all the the characters mainly because there was so much room for improvement。 Quite funny at some points though I can't help but have an issue with how Sebastian seemed to get with Fixing or Briony as soon as things end with the other Well lots of growth for all the the characters mainly because there was so much room for improvement。 Quite funny at some points though I can't help but have an issue with how Sebastian seemed to get with Fixing or Briony as soon as things end with the other 。。。more

Quite a fun read but with many annoying characters。Will Fixie ever stand up to her overbearing and entitled older brother and her lazy, self-obsessed sister? Will she recognise the truth about her former crush? Will she work things out with the gorgeous man she meets in a coffee shop and whose life becomes inextricably entwined with her own? Will her mother ever come back from her extended holiday with Auntie Karen? All this and more!

Call her Jennifer, not Fixie, and the book would be 10% better。 Although that doesn’t redeem it。

Quintessential Kinsella。 Not one of my favorites of hers, but enjoyed nevertheless。 A quick, light read。

Really enjoyed this fun, sweet story。 Read during early labor and in the hospital postpartum!

I really wanted to like this book but I couldn't get over all the mess。 Some of the issues dragged and could've been cut into less detail like how weird her family was。 We got that in the beginning but there was way more in depth detail than there had to be, it made me uncomfortable。 Fixie was so annoying I couldn't find anything about her I liked, she meddled way too much and in way too many unnecessary ways throughout the book。 The relationship between her and Seb was also not realistic。 I rea I really wanted to like this book but I couldn't get over all the mess。 Some of the issues dragged and could've been cut into less detail like how weird her family was。 We got that in the beginning but there was way more in depth detail than there had to be, it made me uncomfortable。 Fixie was so annoying I couldn't find anything about her I liked, she meddled way too much and in way too many unnecessary ways throughout the book。 The relationship between her and Seb was also not realistic。 I read it quickly just to finish it and hoping it would get better but unfortunately it never did。 。。。more

A huge disappointment for me especially since I love this author。 Fixie is dumb nickname and a frustrating character。 All of her problems were either not real issues or could be solved by just stating her opinion。 Her entire dynamic with her family was annoying she’s not 13 she’s an adult who doesn’t need to do everything for her family or feel pressured to。 Then the romance didn’t even save it since it didn’t make sense at all。 There was no chemistry and I still don’t comprehend looking back at A huge disappointment for me especially since I love this author。 Fixie is dumb nickname and a frustrating character。 All of her problems were either not real issues or could be solved by just stating her opinion。 Her entire dynamic with her family was annoying she’s not 13 she’s an adult who doesn’t need to do everything for her family or feel pressured to。 Then the romance didn’t even save it since it didn’t make sense at all。 There was no chemistry and I still don’t comprehend looking back at the book why they even liked each other。 He was better than fixie but that’s not saying much。 。。。more
