Summary

From the USA Today  bestselling author of The Hating Game and 99 Percent Mine comes the clever, funny, and unforgettable story of a muscular, tattooed man hired as an assistant to two old women—under the watchful eye of a beautiful retirement home manager。

Distraction (n): an extreme agitation of the mind or emotions。

Ruthie Midona has worked the front desk at the Providence Luxury Retirement Villa for six years, dedicating her entire adult life to caring for the Villa’s residents, maintaining the property (with an assist from DIY YouTube tutorials), and guarding the endangered tortoises that live in the Villa’s gardens。 Somewhere along the way, she’s forgotten that she’s young and beautiful, and that there’s a world outside of work—until she meets the son of the property developer who just acquired the retirement center。

Teddy Prescott has spent the last few years partying, sleeping in late, tattooing himself when bored, and generally not taking life too seriously—something his father, who dreams of grooming Teddy into his successor, can’t understand。 When Teddy needs a place to crash, his father seizes the chance to get him to grow up。 He’ll let Teddy stay in one of the on-site cottages at the retirement home, but only if he works to earn his keep。 Teddy agrees—he can change a few lightbulbs and clip some hedges, no sweat。 But Ruthie has plans for Teddy too。

Her two wealthiest and most eccentric residents have just placed an ad (yet another!) seeking a new personal assistant to torment。 The women are ninety-year-old, four-foot-tall menaces, and not one of their assistants has lasted a full week。 Offering up Teddy seems like a surefire way to get rid of the tall, handsome, unnerving man who won’t stop getting under her skin。

Ruthie doesn’t count on the fact that in Teddy Prescott, the Biddies may have finally met their match。 He’ll pick up Chanel gowns from the dry cleaner and cut Big Macs into bite-sized bits。 He’ll do repairs around the property, make the residents laugh, and charm the entire villa。 He might even remind Ruthie what it’s like to be young and fun again。 But when she finds out Teddy’s father’s only fixing up the retirement home to sell it, putting everything she cares about in jeopardy, she’s left wondering if Teddy’s magic was all just a façade。

Hilarious, warm, and romantic, Sally Thorne's novel delivers an irrepressibly joyous celebration of love and community for fans of 99% Mine and The Hating Game

This book was adorable I loved all the characters but it’s not something that will stick with me。 I laughed but I didn’t swoon, the angst was just okay。 A must read definitely not but a cute palate cleanser definitely

Sally Thorne can do no wrong。 I loved this book and all its quirkiness。 I loved the non-traditional love interest that was Teddy。 And I loved that this book was about learning how to love yourself while also embracing change。

I am just gonna go pat myself for finishing this one。 Multiple breaks and naps later, I finally finished it。 And I am just wondering why did I even try to? I admit to going into the book with very huge expectations , but also that's the reason I dragged myself to finish it。 I wouldn't have given any other book such chance。 I truly wanted to love it。 But it just felt so flat。 I just feel depleted and frustrated。 Things I liked This would be a small list still。 It was cute。。。kind of? There were moments I did like。 I liked the supporting characters a lot more。 If not for Renata and Mel, I probably wouldn't be able to drag myself through it。 Then there is this whole endangered tortoise rescue/ rehab talks which was interesting。 It was a short read。 I am glad for that。 Things I disliked The main characters。 I get it Ruthie is a goody goody old soul。 Honestly I myself am an old soul and I thought I would be able to relate with her。 But boy。 I don't know。 Maybe she could have had some semblance of a life? She does not go out at all, is a workaholic and spends all her time and days taking care of a retirement home。 And the first guy she comes across she just falls in love with。 Hmmm。 Well fine I can still buy it。 Kind of。 Then coming to Teddy。 I did not like him。 Maybe it's me, but I don't find unable of taking care of oneself attractive at all。 Ruthie finds him so charming and falls for him completely which I just don't get it。 It's like Teddy only needed someone to take care of him, keep him tidy and fed。 The romancs felt so forced and no sparks at all。 Like nothing。 The whole plot was just so slow。 I just didn't care about both of them。 I tried but this one was not for me。 Maybe I will pick Sally Thorne's book in the future。 But those will now be with a bit of hesitation。 。。。more

3 stars。 I really wanted to love Second First Impressions, but I barely like it。 The writing was okay and I think the characters were solid, but the pacing was all over the place (slow in the beginning, way too fast at the end) and I couldn't fully connect to the characters, their stories, or the romance in general。 I'm hoping I can eventually re-read it and give it another shot! FYI: I know Sally Thorne is capable of great storytelling and captivating characters so I'll continue to give her boo 3 stars。 I really wanted to love Second First Impressions, but I barely like it。 The writing was okay and I think the characters were solid, but the pacing was all over the place (slow in the beginning, way too fast at the end) and I couldn't fully connect to the characters, their stories, or the romance in general。 I'm hoping I can eventually re-read it and give it another shot! Second First Impressions was more than A romantic Comedy, or contemporary Romance, It was much bigger than that, It was about Love in all forms and shapes, Forgiveness in its purest State。 This book is cosy, forgiving, tender, Kind, comfortable, passionate, and like a hot chocolate on a cold morning。 Sure, some of these adjectives are not made to describe books or even writing style but Sally Thorne has totally Upscaled herself。 This books was different from Her previous ones, The hating game wa Second First Impressions was more than A romantic Comedy, or contemporary Romance, It was much bigger than that, It was about Love in all forms and shapes, Forgiveness in its purest State。 This book is cosy, forgiving, tender, Kind, comfortable, passionate, and like a hot chocolate on a cold morning。 Sure, some of these adjectives are not made to describe books or even writing style but Sally Thorne has totally Upscaled herself。 This books was different from Her previous ones, The hating game was more Witty, charming, And fire filled but this one was Slow, Understanding, fresh, beautiful and If I could I would erase my memory of it from my mind only to read it again。 The characters were Well- written, Probably an understatement but I think Sally's writing justified their personality in the best possible way。It was not the normal story you read everyday in romantic comedies, Or chick lit genre, It was tender, fragile, real and as close to reality as Rom coms could ever get。Made me realise how crazy it is to even form opinions based on First impressions, because life is nothing but a huge change waiting to happen and while people change all the time, Even the stubborn ones for those they truly appreciate, people do change for good and holding their first impression against them is the worst you can do with a person。It was about letting things go, trusting again。 But more than anything, I absolutely loved Teddy's Aura, Tattoos, GIVE-TAKE, Forgiving, Confident self。 Meanwhile the whole concept of Providence, Aggie and Ren , turtles, Their Background made me shed a tear or two。Mel's constant attempt at Protecting Ruthie, random conversations by lake, Playfulness and cheer。It felt like reading real life just wrapped in pages, Two semi-Hurt people (Mind it,Not broken, because This book made me realise that people, Humans, emotions are not meant to be "Fixed", They are meant to be accepted and moved on from), One retirement home, 1 crazy bosses, 1 angry half sister and critically endangered turtles。 。。。more

"Hilarious, warm, and romantic" - who can resist a book that promises this? Certainly not me。 :)LIKES:✔ Second First Impressions is sett in a retirement settlement for the old rich people。 The funny situations are never-ending。 Because they are too old to care about the consequences the actions and statements of residents are hilarious。✔ As you can guess, side characters are fabulous (and I am not talking just about their fashion sense)。 My favorites were two grannies that are looking for a pers "Hilarious, warm, and romantic" - who can resist a book that promises this?
